NEWSLETTER WEEK ENDING 2nd FEBRUARY 2018 WEDNESDAY WORD – PRAYER YEAR 3 ASSEMBLY - took place this morning. The theme of the assembly was the Liturgical Year and Communities. Well done to the pupils and thank you to all the visitors who attended. CLASS 5 ASSEMBLY - is next Friday 9th February in the School Hall at 9.10am. All family and friends are welcome. SAFER INTERNET DAY 2018 - is on Tuesday 6th February. The children will be learning about online safety and completing activities related to this. The theme this year is “Create, Connect and Share Respect: A better internet starts with you”. You can access the main website at https://www.saferinternet.org.uk/safer-internet-day/2018 SWIMMING TEAM SUCCESS - Well done to Alexis Aaron, Maisy Hughes, Rebecca Irwin , Poppy O’Donoghue, Dylan Ratcliffe, Ben Trueman, Harrison Newell and Jamie O’Shaughnessy who came 3rd overall in the Ashton Schools swimming gala. GREAT GYMNASTICS RESULTS - We received the results this week from last week’s gymnastics competition. The Y2 team (Ella Ballard, Imogen Green, Hannah Gannon and Henry Turner) came 2nd out of 17 schools, the Y3/4 team (Adam Towns, Ryan Ratcliffe, Mischa Abbott, Sakura Wilson and Ava Earley) came 1st out of 17 schools and the Y5/6 team (Charlotte Ashcroft, Jamie O’Shaughnessy, Mia Ellison, Libby Rutherford and Thomas Earley) came 4th out of 17 teams. Well done to everyone who took part. Mia Ellison and Hannah Gannon were recognised as outstanding individual gymnastics and were awarded with medals. The Y3/4 team will now go on to represent Wigan at the Greater Manchester minischool games in March. TERRIFIC TAG RUGBY - William Massey, Ben Trueman, Tonis Tomkus, Niall Spruce, Charlie Wright, Phoebe Cook, Chloe Banks, Harry Tuszinski, Sam Lloyd and Leah Mullins represented St Oswald’s at Leigh Sports Village in a Y6 tag rugby competition where they progressed to the finals but missed out on a trophy by a golden try!! SUPER SPELLING - Two teams of pupils have competed in a spelling bee interschool challenge at Nicolmere this week. The Year 4 team won, beating 16 other schools and the Year 6 team came 4th in their competition. Well done to all the children - Iona Armstrong, Evan Burke, Charlotte Ineson, William Turner, Lucy Haigh, Rose McConnell, Matty Melling and Ellie Dallimore. COLD WEATHER - We have asked the children to remember to bring hats, gloves and scarves to school so they keep warm when they are playing out at lunch and playtimes. Please ensure these items are named. AWARDS - Eloise Powell, Alex Carter, Annie Gregson, Holly McKenzie, Rebecca Simm, Joshua Burke, Jamie Miller, Regan Hodson, Will Catterall, Jayden Morais-Lino, Macey Carey-Jones, Harrison Ince, Eve Brearton, Emma Green, Skye Morris, Milo Wilkinson, Phoebe Colquitt, Xavier Murphy, Matthew Atherton, Alyx Cunliffe, Olivia Tomlinson, Jordan Daley, Caitlin Harrison and Louis Williams.
