Friday 2nd February 2018 Issue 125 Editor Miss S A Jones

Lomeshaye Life We are now quickly approaching the half term holiday. Pupils have been working very hard in all classes and making good progress, read on to find out more about what has been happening in school this week. This week our attendance is 96.8% for the whole school. I am very pleased to announce that this is just above our target and I am happy to see so many children back in school after been off due to illness. Let’s make a big effort next week to get as many children into school as possible to help us to go beyond our target of 96%. Pendle Pupil Parliament— On Friday morning Mrs. Wilkinson and the members of the Pupil Parliament went to Nelson Town Hall to meet and discuss important issues in schools and the local area. They met in the council chambers and spoke with the Mayor and Mayoress of Pendle. Our representatives spoke about our work to support the charity Muslim Hands, which helps to provide clean water for people in underdeveloped countries. The Mayoress shared her work to support the charity Friends of Pendle Parks, which helps with the maintenance of local parks in Pendle and this is now something that we might like to get involved with in the future. WOW and WIDE Bench Project—Mrs. Safdar and the members of the Women of Whitefield (WOW) and the Women Inspiring Dialogue Everywhere (WIDE) groups have been working together on a community project bringing together four groups of women from diverse backgrounds to make ` sit and chat benches`. These benches will provide safe spaces in communities where natural relationships will grow and the community will feel a greater sense of well being, less isolation and the bench would be seen as a safe place to meet and interact with each other. New School Newspaper— Miss Saleem has started a wonderful school newspaper club this half term. Her roving reporters have been doing an amazing job at interviewing staff and collecting news from around school to publish at the end of the half term. The first edition will be printed and sold on Friday 9th February, so if you would like to read their great stories the first paper will be priced at £1 (great value for all the inside information at Lomeshaye Junior School.) Cinema Ticket Winners— In this mornings Celebration Assembly we drew the raffle for attendance this month and the lucky winners of cinema tickets were: Natasha Shahid from 6 Rowan and Hajra Abbas from 3 Maple . We are sure that they will enjoy their trip to the cinema soon and will keep working hard on their attendance to try to win again next month. Friday 9th February—Clear Water Day: in school fundraiser organaised by Rights Champions in school to raise money for a charity (Muslim Hands) that aims to provide clean water around the world. Children to wear white/blue clothes (nonuniform), bring donations and there will be a cake sale in school. Friday 9th February—Always Children Afternoon, behaviour reward in school. Friday 9th February—School Newspaper goes on sale.
