NEWSLETTER WEEK ENDING 26th JANUARY 2018 WEDNESDAY WORD – TEACHER YEAR 5 ASSEMBLY- took place this morning. The theme of the assembly was Mission. Well done to the pupils and thank you to all the visitors who attended. YEAR 3 ASSEMBLY - is next Friday 2nd February in the School Hall at 9.10am. All family and friends are welcome. TEMPEST PHOTOGRAPHS - Children in EYFS and Y6 will be having their group photographs taken on Monday 29th January. There will also be team photographs taken. SAFEGUARDING - For your information - there is a safeguarding board opposite the window at the Main Reception with details of the school Safeguarding and Child Protection Lead Members of staff along with the policies and other information. The policies can also be accessed on the school website. Paper copies are available on request. EXPLORING ASHTON - Classes 7 and 8 have all been out and about, exploring Ashton this week as part of their Geography topics. WIGAN ATHLETIC - children from Classes 8 and 9 took part in a workshop on Monday afternoon. The workshops were led by Wigan Athletic and were focused around educating younger children on the importance of eradicating racism. There was a full page spread in the Wigan Post. MINDFULNESS - children from Class 9 began an eight week course this week on mindfulness, focusing on the beneficial results of emotional and mental well-being. YR3/4 MATHS WORKSHOP - thank you to the families that attended the workshop on Thursday evening. The feedback was very positive and parents and carers enjoyed hearing about our new initiative, Maths of the Day, which encourages the pupils to carry out active maths activities. The next workshop is for Y5 and Y6 parents and carers on Thursday 1st March and the focus is fractions. WIGAN LITTLE THEATRE - well done to Charlotte Travis who has been appearing in Little Red Riding Hood throughout January. GYMNASTICS COMPETITION - well done to Ella Ballard, Imogen Green, Hannah Gannon, Harry Cushion, Henry Turner, Adam Towns, Mischa Abbott, Ryan Ratcliffe, Sakura Wilson, Ava Earley, Charlotte Ashcroft, Jamie O’Shaughnessy, Mia Ellison, Thomas Earley and Libby Rutherford. The children represented our school extremely well and competed against other local schools within the area. CANCER RESEARCH - Libby Rutherford and Emily Gallagher have both received Certificates of Appreciation and a medal due to raising £30.16 for Cancer Research. The children organised a competition within school to raise money for the charity.
