JUNE NEWSLETTER 2016 Hello, We have had several amazing events to celebrate in school since returning for Term 6 and I thank you for the support you have given in providing costumes, food and attendance at these special opportunities for learning. The children have celebrated ‘One World Day’, Den Day and Year 6 have enjoyed a fantastic week of activities both in school and on their residential trip to Hindleap Warren. Thank you to all our Year 6 staff, who ensured that every child had a week to remember forever!

One issue that does arise every year is the amount of money the school is providing to cover payments that are not made for trips, swimming and events; whilst these are enhancing the learning for your child this currently totals £8,472.73 and means that this amount of money has to be paid from the school’s budget. I know that times are difficult, but that applies in school too! I am very happy to support you by taking instalments when larger amounts are requested, but would like to make it clear that this money is needed, as our school budget is unable to cover this level of lost funds.

Please talk to the office staff, class teachers or myself, whoever you feel most comfortable with, rather than just not pay, as we would like to continue to offer these fabulous opportunities to our children.

I would like to share with you that we had a Local Authority monitoring visit last week which reported very positively on the outstanding teaching and learning seen across the whole school, including the Nursery. They were very impressed with Snuggle Buggle, Chrysalis Capers and Words with Wings, particularly commenting on the supportive conversations they had with parents and carers. Thank you.

Attendance Percentages since September 2015 We are constantly trying to improve our attendance which remains below the national average and thank the PTA for their funding support in giving the winning class £10 each week to bank for their own financial management decisions. We will therefore publish the class percentages on each newsletter for your information.

Please help us by ensuring your child attends school at all times unless they are too ill to do so.

Pugwash News….

One World Day Last week we learnt about different cultures and tried different foods from around the world, then on Friday we joined together with the Reception classes to celebrate 'One World Day'.

We all dressed up to represent a different country and bought in an item of food from that country. The children had lots of fun at the picnic, where they tried lots of different foods and enjoyed them. Thank you for your support for this event.

Suncream As the weather warms up, can we remind parents that we ask for a donation of £2.00 per child to go towards sun cream.

Important Dates  The last day for term time only funded children is 20th July as we will be closed 21st and 22nd July for the INSET days.  Parents evening for the school leavers will be on the 19th July between 3.00-5.00pm.

There will be an appointment sheet up in the Nursery, so please arrange a convenient time with your child's keyworker.  As a reminder for those parents who take up the stretched offer, we will close for our annual closure week 1st August and will re open on the 8th August.

New Faces We are very excited to introduce our two new members of staff, Sophie and Michaela.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to meet them yet, please do say ‘hello’ when you are in next.

Rye Primary News…..

Rye Primary School Uniform We like to think that our pupils wear their uniform with pride, we are certainly very proud when we see them wearing it, therefore we would like to clarify a few points.

The school uniform is: • Navy blue V-neck jumper / cardigan with school logo (available for purchase at school) • School tie (available for purchase at school) • Pinafore dress, grey shorts, grey skirt, grey trousers • In Summer blue/white checked summer dresses • White collared shirts • Socks-grey or white • Tights - grey  Footwear- Black sensible shoes Games and PE Kit For reasons of safety and hygiene, children need to be able to change for Games and PE lessons into: • A white T-shirt, black shorts, white socks and black plimsolls As part of the girls uniform, they may wear blue / white checked dresses during the summer months, and we would like to stipulate that this runs from the May half term until the October half term, during the rest of the year the girls should be wearing winter uniform. Likewise the boys may wear smart short sleeved shirts with their ties and shorts during that period, and we would like to confirm that if the weather becomes exceptionally hot then we will make the decision that boys may remove their ties.

We hope that this will help everyone to ensure they are wearing the correct uniform at all times, and keep Rye Primary looking Rye Smart!

New Additions We have some exciting new installations in school, we hope you will have noticed our TV screens, installed during half term. One is an external pod in the playground and the other is a large screen in our Reception area. These screens will be showing news and notices from school, as well as short child focussed programmes on many things from health and exercise, to bullying and railway safety messages. We will use them to celebrate our successes and we plan to play sharing assemblies and other class videos too. We hope you agree that they will help to keep you all fully informed of events in school and give the children some useful ‘life messages’ too.

One World Day Celebrations Minnows, Sardines and Pugwash Nursery had a very exciting day last Friday, celebrating 'One World Day'. They dressed up in costumes from different countries and brought in food from that country to taste. During the week the children had been making flags, bunting and fact files in readiness for the day.

They have loved learning about different parts of the world.

Year 3 Romans Year 3 celebrated the start of their topic last Friday by having a Roman Day! They explored Ancient Rome and modern day Italy in style with fantastic fancy dress costumes. Firstly they made their own Gladiator helmets or traditional headdresses, before acting out scenes from the Colosseum. To end their fantastic day they had an Italian-themed Chrysalis Capers, and tried delicious pizza and bruschetta. Very much enjoyed by all!

Acrobatic Antics!

Year 3 took a trip to the circus at the end of last term when they had a visit from an acrobat, who spent the morning teaching the children various tricks. At the end of the visit Year 3 took part in a real-life circus parade where they could show off what they learnt.

In the afternoon the children made their own circus puppets, taking inspiration from the morning. After that they had a Cirque Du Soleil and Chinese State Circus cafĂŠ, sampling French and Chinese food! There were some amazing costumes as well!
