Lots of Christmas Fun!

Christmas Caper’s Take a look at what each Year group have been learning about on the run up to Christmas

On the 1st of December, Nursery and Reception children were excited to see the arrival of Santa’s Scout Elves. Each came through a magical door in their classes and were sent

by Santa to be his eyes and ears until Christmas day.

The Reception children wrote suggestions for a name for their Elf and after a vote, decided on Sugarplum Prickle Pants! Then, with their Christmas magic, the Scout Elves flew to the North Pole each night to tell Santa Claus about all of the day's adventures. That’s how Santa knows who had been naughty and who had been nice!

Busy, Busy, Busy!

Reception children have been very busy over the last few weeks visiting Trebaron Garden Centre and listening to a talk from the Dental Nurse about how to brush their teeth correctly. They have made potions and spells in the sand and had a wonderful time making salt dough decorations.

Year 1 shared the story ‘Please Don’t Chat To the Bus Driver’.

They took part in hot-seating and role play and discussed character descriptions to lead into writing their own stories.

In topic work, they have been comparing new and old toys. They looked at toys from the Victorian era and compared these to the toys we have today such as ipads and Playstations.

In Design and Technology, they were excited to look at different mechanisms to make Christmas cards with moving parts.

As part of their Business Enterprise work, Year 2 have been sequencing and writing instructions to make chocolate reindeer and bags of reindeer poop!

They were asked to imagine, what a chocolate tree in their garden, would look like.

This half term, Year 3 have been learning about volcanoes as part of their Extreme Earth topic. Here are some of their Top Volcano facts:  There are 1900 active volcanoes.  The world’s largest active volcano is Mauno Loa in Hawaii  Lava can reach temperatures of 1250 degrees.

Year 4 have been discussing why 1066 was such an important year in English history and have learnt about different types of castles: Palace; Motte and Bailey; the Stone Keep and Concentric.

On Monday, 9th of November, they went on an amazing trip to Lancaster Castle which is a Motte and Bailey Castle. They enjoyed looking at the different features of the castle such as the Court room and particularly enjoyed pretended to be locked up in the old prison cells!

When they were in the court room, they got to re-enact a real trial with all of the children playing different parts including judge, jury, lawyers, witness and defendant. It was lots of fun!

As part of this half term’s Topic work, Year 6 have been learning about the water cycle.

They learnt about what we could do to help save water and they all made a promise to try to make a difference.

Jayne from United Utilities visited both classes and they all had a great time learning all about what happens to our water once we have used it and how we get clean water from our taps.

Caring for them:  Keep

your dogs comfortable and don’t get too close.  Let it come to you.

Sit down and call it’s name.  Make sure it has enough food and water for the night.

Sox and Ruby.

Let it make it’s self at home and give it time to explore and get used to it’s surroundings. If you have a cat, I would suggest making sure the cat is safe and comfortable. Don’t make a big fuss over one animal and leave the other out as it may not get the care that it needs. I have a hamster, two cats and two dogs which all get the same care with help from my family
