Welcome back to the 3rd issue of Revoe Learning Academy’s Magazine. The ideas and articles have been written and designed by children in Year 6. We hope you enjoy it!

Inside Issue 3: In the Hot Seat with‌

Name: Rebekkah Age: 10 All about me: I enjoy dancing, singing and going to the park. I also like dogs, playing Minecraft and my favourite TV program is Jessie and Scooby.

Name: Mackenxi Age: 10 All about me: I like gymnastics, drawing, painting and playing Minecraft. My favourite colours are red, black and white.

Name: Betty Age: 10 All about me: I like Majorettes, art activities and Computers. My favourite colour is blue and my favourite food is pizza.

Year 6 had a fantastic time learning how to play the African drums and performing a harvest dance in front of the whole school. As they said we are the best school, we look forward to seeing them next year.

Where were you born?

I was born in Macclesfield.

Where did you go to school?

I went to school in Congleton which is in the county of Cheshire.

How many jobs did you have before teaching and what were they?

I’ve been a teacher for 14 years and before that I have worked for a bank and I have also been the manager of a restaurant as well.

What is your favourite song in the charts?

Anything by Ed Sheeran Which do you prefer, a lizard or a pig?

I would prefer a lizard.

What is the most embarrassing thing you have ever done?

When I was working at the restaurant, there was a phone call so I rushed across the kitchen to reach the phone. As I did so, I fell and landed in a mop bucket with my bottom stuck in it and my legs in the air. I had a very wet bottom but I still managed to answer the phone professionally!

What do you like most about this school?

It’s got to be the children. Every day is different, everyone has always got something interesting to say so it’s a very exciting place to be.

Did you ever get sent to the Head Teachers room when you were at school?

No, I was a very good girl.

Have you ever met anyone famous?

A long time ago I met a swimmer called Adrian Moorhouse who was in the Olympics many years ago.

Which do you prefer, X Factor or Strictly?

Strictly Come Dancing, absolutely!

What is the most dangerous thing you have ever done?

When I was on an outdoor adventure camp we went walking in some mountains. There was a crevasse that you had to leap across to get to the other side. It was a huge gap and a very long way down.

It was frightening and dangerous but I had to face my fears to jump across.

How many candles will you have on your birthday cake this year?

Quite a lot!

Who is your hero and why?

Malala Yousafzai, who is the young lady who has become an activist for female education and the youngest-ever Nobel Prize laureate.

REMEMBERANCE DAY This marks the day World War One ended at 11am the 11th day of the 11th month back in 1918. A two minute silence is held at 11am to remember the people who have died in wars.

This is a my favourite poem by John McCrea.

Poppy we are but children small, We are too little to do it all.

Children you may do your part.

Love each other is how you start.

Play without fighting.

Be kind and thoughtful, To all girls and boys.

The sewing club is preparing a special surprise for Remembrance Day. We look forward seeing it soon.

We interviewed children from each year group to find out what they have been learning and how they have settled into their new class. This is what they had to say:

Reception What do you like most about Reception?

Playing in the kitchen, painting outside and playing in Mrs Harrisons class with the saxophone.

What have you been learning in class?

We have read the story Owl babies and have been painting owls.

Year 2 What have you been learning about?

We have been learning about how to be the next Wayne Rooney. First we looked at what he eats and drinks, then we wrote a letter asking him to visit Blackpool. We had to tell him all about what there is to do here.

What have you enjoyed most about this topic?

Writing the letter to Wayne Rooney and waiting for him to reply.

Year 1 What have you been learning about in year 1?

We have been looking at books by Julia Donaldson.

We have sequenced the story and described the characters.

In computing we used a paint program to create our own illustrations of Room on the Broom

Year 3 What have you been learning about in year 3?

We have been learning about Fairytales like The Three Billy Goats Gruff and Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

We have planned and written our own Fairytale.

“My Fairytale is called ‘The King and the Witch’. In my story the witch tries to destroy the town but the King stops her by using his magic ring.” By Malak.

Year 5

Year 4 What have you been learning about?

Year 4 have been writing nonchronological reports about electricity so that they can teach Year 3 all about electricity. We have looked at lots of different reports to help us. We have written a report and then edited it with our partner before writing our final draft.

What have you been learning about this half term?

Our key question has been: How could Hitler convince a nation like Germany to follow him?

We have looked at the life of an evacuee and have researched Anne Frank to find out about the life of a Jewish child in hiding.

Year 6 Year 6 have been learning about the Mayans. Here are our Top Facts about the Mayans:    

 

The Mayans originated around 2600BC in Southern Mexico.

They built huge pyramids, temples and sculptures.

They developed astronomy, calendars and writing.

They were skilled farmers, who cleared vast areas of rainforest and built underground reservoirs.

They played deadly ball games.

People say that there are still Mayan temples that have Find your way through the not yet been discovered.

We wrote letters to the architect Andy Wolfe to put forward suggestions on how we would like the Key Stage 2 area refurbished. We wanted the learning environment to be at a cool temperature rather than too hot or too cold and the toilets to be an open hygienic space.

Who is your favourite Disney character?

I love all Disney characters but Tinkerbell is my favourite.

What is your favourite meal or restaurant?

An Italian restaurant called Tiramisu. I love pasta.

When was the last time you cried and why?

I cried on Sunday because my daughter went back to her university house and I don’t like saying goodbye.

Have you ever fallen off your motorbike?

Yes, once.

What is your worst fear?

Tight spaces.

What would your dream job be?

A fighter pilot We hear you are getting married.

Would you consider the hall as your venue?

No, as it is going to be in Scotland but if it was in Blackpool then maybe. We do have a very nice staffroom now!

What made you come to Revoe?

I had been working at Devonshire school for 12 years and I wanted a change.

If you had to rate Revoe out of 10, what would it be?

It would have to be 10.

What is your most embarrassing moment?

Each year at Devonshire, we had a Christmas sing-along where we had to wear a silly hat and play an instrument in front of the whole school.

With the Rugby World Cup final coming up soon, we are sure you will all be excited to see who wins.

South Africa and New Zealand and Argentina and Australia go head to head this weekend. This is the first time only southern hemisphere teams have qualified for the finals.

Eight children from Year 2 represented Revoe at a Rugby Skills Festival to celebrate the Rugby Union World Cup being held in this country. The event took place at Blackpool Sports Centre and the children had great fun attempting different rugby-related activities.

Football News Revoe drew against Marton in the first round of the Blackpool Primary School's cup. They all had a fantastic game and it was a great effort by all!
