To provide the parents with reassurance, whilst their children are in the care of experienced staff.

Welcome to S.W. Out of school club MISSION STATEMENT

COMPLAINTS

To provide quality childcare in a rich, stimulating and encouraging environment where children will feel safe and secure in order that they can develop and grow.

Our aim at S.W. Club is to provide the best professional care possible for every child. We want parents/guardians to be happy with the service we provide. If you have any worries or complaints about our standards, please let us know so that we can address the matter and meet the needs of families. We will respond to all complaints, criticisms or queries.

OUT OF SCHOOL CLUB The out of school club provides after school care facilities for up to 24 children aged 3 – 11 years of old. (A NOF Funding from Sure Start Team has sponsored the S.W. Club)

OUR AIMS To offer a range of activities to meet the age range and ability for fun, relaxation and study if required.

To provide the children with a warm, caring, friendly and safe environment in which the children can play and relax.

COMPLAINTS PROCEDURE Should any problem or concerns arise please discuss the issue immediately with a member of staff. Any complaints will be dealt with in the strictest confidence and every effort made to resolve the matter.

If you still feel that your complaints are not resolved by the above method, then you must put your complaint in writing to the Manager who will deal with the complaint in the strictest confidence.

A complaint can be made in writing and addressed to St Wilfrid’s Out of School Club, Management Team. This should be either posted or handed in at the school main office. The management team will respond within 28 days, outlining any actions to be taken.

CONCLUSION The Management Committee intends to fully abide by the contents of this handbook.

BEHAVIOUR All our activities and experiences are appropriate to the children’s age thus reducing the possibility of frustration or boredom arising, which could lead to unwanted behaviour. Should incidents of unwanted behaviour arise, these will be dealt with in a calm and controlled manner appropriate to the nature of the behaviour.

Physical punishment is not resorted to in any way. However there may be a need to involve the parent/guardian in writing or by appointment to discuss the unwanted behaviour.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES Play and learning experiences provided by the S.W. Club encourage awareness of the different gender, abilities, religious and social backgrounds. All children will be treated with respect and their individual needs catered for without discrimination.

CHILD PROTECTION In compliance with the child protection Laws and Health and Safety guidelines, there will always be at least two members of qualified staff present on site at all times, regardless of the number of children present. Records of children’s details will be kept on the premises for two years after leaving the setting. If any child discloses any information of a serious nature regarding abuse or neglect, it is the Out of School Club responsibility to inform the Social Services Department.

SECURITY For the safety of your child/ren we would ask you to inform us personally if someone other than yourself or the usual designated person is to collect your child/ren. If for some reason you fail to arrive to collect your child, we will contact one of the designated persons listed on your child’s registration form.

FIRE DRILL Fire drill procedures are regularly carried out and equipment inspected. Our fire drill is displayed throughout the building.

SETTLING IN Starting the S.W. Out of School Club for the first time or changing to a new club can be a big step for both parents and children. To help with this process of settling in, your child will be given special care and attention in the first few weeks or for as long as necessary until he/she feels comfortable in the new environment.

Your child will be addressed by his/her preferred name. A name badge may be provided to assist the staff.

TIMES Our current session times are for the children Monday to Friday After School: from 3.15pm – 5.45pm Breakfast: Monday to Friday 7.45am- 9am Failure to collect your child/ren on time may result in additional charges being made to cover staffing costs.

STAFFING The S.W. Club Staffing ratio is 1:8. Staff consists of Coordinator Two Play workers, fully qualified to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent. We also have One Play worker who does extra cover when required and additional voluntary staff from time to time.

SAFETY AND RECORDS Records are kept of attendance, medication, allergies accidents and illness together with those records required by Law of date of birth, age, address, doctor etc.

A named person will be at hand should an emergency arise. We ask you to give written consent should we be unable to contact you directly.

If a parent is going to be late collecting their child the S.W. Club must be informed as soon as possible. Failure to notify Staff of a late collection may result in us contacting the Child Protection Team. In order to cover staff costs etc late collection will incur an additional cost of £5.00 for every 5 minutes until the child are collected.

Failure to pay fees for two consecutive weeks could result in your child’s place being withdrawn. If you have a problem concerning the absence of your child for any length of time, please notify a member of staff to ensure his/her place is reserved.

Should you experience difficulty paying your fees you should inform the Coordinator immediately. We do understand that sometimes people face financial difficulty; there is help available in the form of family credit etc. We will make efforts to assist you at such times.

The S.W. Out of School Club, opened in October 02 Fees are payable in advance on the first day of the week that your child attends.

Unfortunately fees will still be payable for any sessions that are missed, unless 4 weeks’ notice has been given.

HEALTHY SNACKS At the S.W. Club children will be encouraged to eat a healthy snack.

A menu will be designed/created by the children and staff once a month in advanced whenever possible. If your child has a medical condition or allergy to certain foods/drinks it will be the responsibility of the parent/guardian to inform the staff immediately, so that necessary arrangements can be made.

ACTIVITIES The S.W. Club offers a wide range of activities that are intellectually stimulating, challenging and fun. We offer a range of activities to meet the varied age ranges and abilities for recreation, relaxation and study if required.
