Loughrigg DofE Day Walk On Saturday 30th April, 13 of our Duke of Edinburgh candidates gathered early in the morning to board the school minibus and journey up to Ambleside in the Lake District.

The plan was to walk around the bottom of Loughrigg Fell and build valuable knowledge and skills the pupils would need for their qualifying expedition in July. By 12 o'clock the group were making excellent progress and were already exploring the huge open caves at the foot of the hill. The leaders got together and decided the group were skilled and enthusiastic enough to be guided up to the top of Loughrigg to take in the amazing views of the snow topped hills.

Spirits were high within the group and within no time at all, the cairn was in sight! Just in time too as the group fell victim to a 5 minute sleet shower (offering a valuable lesson into how quickly the weather can change).

Shelter from the wind was sought so the group could sit down and enjoy their lunch overlooking Grassmere - perfect opportunity to sing happy birthday to year 9's Izzy who had given up her birthday lie in for the day walk in the Lakes.

The group were guided down the hill by the 3 DofE leaders and in no time the group had navigated themselves back to the bus and we were on the way home. The leaders were really impressed with the progress that was made on the day; particularly with the Bronze group and are already looking forward to the qualifying expeditions in the sunshine!

Expressive Arts It has been an intense two weeks within the Musical Theatre department with students taking their final BTEC and GCSE exams. The students have worked extremely hard in preparation for the exams and have been a credit to themselves and the department in their attitude and professionalism.

New dance clubs start this week in preparation for the ‘Just Dance’ summer show. Please see the SCAMPS timetable for more information.

Miss Mac has entered the dance students in for the Lancashire Dance Festival which will be held in November at the Guild Hall, Preston. Fingers crossed we get a place.

Good Luck to Lauren Powell, Chloe Seefus, Naomi Law and Aaron Leigh, our year 10 dance students who will be performing at the Guild Hall this Saturday.

World Studies Fantastic work has been produced by Year 8 students in World Studies over the last few weeks! 8y1 have been producing posters based on different aspects of Russia and 8x1 have been writing letters of outrage about the Treaty of Versailles after WW1.

Brick North West is a not for profit Community Interest Company which has been set up to provide supported employment to military veterans with combat related mental injuries. One way of providing employment is by means of a coffee shop/bakery on the footprint of the existing dilapidated football pavilion.

This can be done by demolishing this building and creating a purpose built eco pod structure (please see www.ecopoddesign.co.uk for some of their designs).
