Democracy

Guy Fawkes The children enjoyed about Guy Fawkes and Tolerance of those with Different Faithslearning and Beliefs the Gun Powder Plot. We made our very own Guy Fawkes and discussed whether or not he should have been burnt for his crimes. After writing lots of facts about him, we then voted using the heads down, hands up voting strategy. The children decided that he should be burnt for plotting against the king as this is treason!

The Queen The children learned all about the Queen when she became the longest reigning monarch. We used the mind map to learn facts about the Queen.

The children also completed a family tree based on the information on the mind map. We also discussed the Royal Standard flag and what it means to the Queen.

The Rule of the Law

Firework Safety watched fireworks an English lesson.

Tolerance of those with Children Different Faiths andduring Beliefs Before the lesson, children were asked to create a firework safety poster and placed these around school. We looked at the rules involved with the Firework Safety Code.

Emergency Services The fire services came to visit year 2 as part of our Great Fire of London topic. They discussed the different types of services available that help people when they are in trouble. We discussed the rules involved with ringing 999 and keeping safe if there is a fire. The children loved squirting fire out of the huge hosepipe! After the visit we also designed and made our own Fire engines.

Individual Liberty

Homework our school children encouraged to make Tolerance of those with Within Different Faiths andareBeliefs choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment to enable them to do this. As part of our topic, children were asked to make a project based on London. They had the freedom of choice to choose how they would present their information. Some children decided to make posters, design an information book, create a scene using craft resources or make a feature using lego. The children’s imaginations ran wild and they loved taking part in this unique homework project.

Show and Tell Children enjoy talking about something that has happened to them this week or showing something exciting to the class. Each Wednesday the children write their name on a piece of paper. If their name is selected then it is their turn to talk. This encourages children to take turns and listen carefully to others.

Diwali

During the Diwali celebrations, Sonal came to school in her favourite sari. She described what her with dressed Different Faiths and family do to celebrate.

This Beliefs included the different foods they make and eat, different types of dancing and how they worship at the temple.

RE The children read and acted out the story of Rama and Sita during an RE lesson. The children enjoyed learning about different Hindu traditions and stories.

The story is about the festival of light and how good conquers evil. The children enjoyed taking on the role of the different characters and discussing how they would feel at different points. We also learned about some of the different Hindu Gods.
