It has been a shorter week this week but our Years 2 and 6 have been busy preparing for the forthcoming SAT tests. We wish them all well.

Please may we remind you that children may bring snacks in for breaktime. These should only include cereal bars, vegetable or breadsticks, fruit and/or yoghurt.

Please do not send children in with chocolate or savoury snacks such as crisps.

Now the weather is getting warmer, please may I also remind you that you may wish to provide your child with a sunhat, sun cream and a drink. As we are not able to apply the sun cream to your child, you may prefer to ensure that they have plenty on before they come to school.

They may, of course, apply extra themselves in school and we will supervise this for our younger children.

Parents Phonics Session for Year 1

Year 4: Natalie Taylor and Courtney Brown

Year 1 will be holding a Parents’ Phonics session on Tuesday 17th May at 3pm, in the Year 1 classroom. This will be an opportunity to go through the requirements of the phonics screening test that Year 1 children have been preparing for, and how they can be supported at home. Refreshments will be available and we look forward to seeing Year 1 parents there.

Lunchtime Supervisors Needed!

Important Dates for the Diary

We currently have two vacancies for midday supervisors/play leaders to work from 12pm until 1pm, every lunchtime, with our lovely children, from September. If you would like to know more about these positions, please contact the office for more details and an application form. The rate of pay is £7.20 per hour. Successful candidates will be subject to our normal safeguarding checks and appropriate training will be provided. The closing date is Friday 20th May.

Get Reading at Reydon!

The library refurbishment, supported by the Friends of Reydon is coming along nicely. The redecoration has started, £500 of books have been purchased and soft furnishings, tables and chairs are now in place. Volunteers from the Friends, have also spent some time recategorising, sorting and organising the books.

We are hoping to hold a ‘grand opening’ later in June after the redecoration has been completed.

In addition, the school has recently purchased lots of new Guided Reading materials for the children, providing a wider variety of titles, text-types and challenge for them to read within class.

A Book Fair will be held during the week beginning Wednesday 15th June, where your child may purchase a book from a selection of titles. A commission is then paid to the school to use against the purchase of more books.

More information will be coming home in book bags in the next few weeks.

Please continue to encourage your child to read at home. Thank you for your support.

Car Boot Sale Just to remind you that the Car Boot Sale being organised by the Friends is on Sunday May 22nd from 12pm until 3pm.

Pitches are £5 for a car and £10 for a van and set up on the field will begin at 11am. There will be an entry fee for adults of 50p and children will be free. We look forward to seeing lots of our families and friends at this community event and funds raised are being dedicated to the school library.

All our Reydon children work hard using their learning behaviours, but special mention must be made to Year 2 and Year 6 who will shortly be sitting the key stage 1 and 2 tests. These children have worked incredibly hard with their teachers this year and we are incredibly proud of their efforts. We know they are capable of some impressive results and are confident that they will all be trying their best throughout the different assessments.

As parents, it is important that your child/ren attend school at this crucial time but if you have any concerns please do not hesitate to contact their classteacher or Mrs Viner as soon as possible. It is important that all children have the opportunity to demonstrate the benefits of their hard work. Thank you.
