Lomeshaye Life It has been another busy week at Lomeshaye Junior School. As this is a very short half term the pupils and staff are working incredibly hard to develop new skills and learning through our learning theme: The Olympics. In addition to this, our Year 6 pupils are preparing themselves for the forthcoming SATs examinations which will begin on Monday 9th May. Read on to find out what has been happening in school over the last two weeks… Big Cookathon— all pupils in school took part in the Big Cookathon with Mrs. Safdar and Miss Ahssan last Thursday and this Thursday. The Big Cookathon is a specially arranged day when pupils in school learn important life skills about healthy eating and how to use kitchen equipment safely. They also got the opportunity to prepare and cook a delicious recipe. This year the children have made a mouth watering halal shepherds pie and everyone that tasted it said it was scrumptious! What Matters to Us— Year 5 were visited by staff from Pendle Vale this week to take part in an activity morning about the things that matter to us. This was a great chance for children to use their speaking and listening skills to discuss topics that interest them and what is important in their lives. All of the pupils were commended by our visitors for their excellent behaviour and attitudes which makes us all very proud. Baby News— At the end of last week we had to say an early “au revoir” to Miss Briggs, the teacher of 5 Beech, as she had been advised to finish work a little earlier than we thought in preparation for having her first baby. We wish Miss Briggs the best of luck with her new arrival and I am sure that she will come to visit us soon, no doubt the children in 5 Beech can’t wait to meet the baby when he/she arrives. Year 6 SATs—Next week is the start of the Year 6 SATs examination week. The pupils and staff in Year 6 as well as other staff across school have worked incredibly hard this year to prepare for a new type of examination which is more challenging than ever before. We wish all of the children in Year 6 the best of luck for next week and will be providing a breakfast every morning for them FREE of charge to help them to be settled and well fed ready for when their exams start. We ask that at home you ensure your children get an early night, every night, that they enjoy some fun time after school and that they are in school between 8.00 and 8.30 every day as they will not be able to take the SATs at any other time so being late to school or having a day off is not an option. The tests will take place each morning from Monday to Thursday, this is a stressful time for children and as such we would like your support in making the next week as calm and happy as possible for them so that they can really do their best. Monday = Reading SAT. Tuesday = Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling SAT. Wednesday = Mathematics SAT. Thursday = Mathematics SAT.
