Type Here Sport Relief StaffTitle Bake Off Sub The annual Staff Sports/Comic Relief Bake Off was once again a great success, with the cakes going down a storm at break time raising funds for Sports Relief projects across Britain and Africa. This year we had 2 new Judges from Russia (Mr Mathers) and Latvia (Ms Asquith and Ms Harrison).

As always the PE staff take this very seriously and had 43% of cake entries registered!

The crowd were waiting to see Ms Gaitens entry, but unfortunately due to illness they were left wanting!

This year was extremely close with only 5 points separating positions 1-6. Unlike previous years' entries controversy was at a minimum. Betty Crocker did not enter and nor did Mr Ralph's wife!

Congratulations must go to Mr. Mashiter (PE Dept!!) for his winning cake. Keep hold of that trophy Sir.

STAR Choir Standing Together Against Racism Forty two pupils from lower school took part in a racism awareness event on 18th March 2016. The event was held in 53 Degrees in the city centre and was a sell-out. Pupils from year nine displayed two dances; one of which was inspired by the recent Paris attacks while year seven and eight sang six songs together with other schools in the area to form a mass choir.

They all wore t-shirts from colours of the rainbow. Ashton Community Science College wore yellow. Some of our pupils had a chance to shine with solos within the songs – Lily Burrows, Lewis Seaward and Abigail Williams to name a few. The event was attended by many parents and some teachers who all thoroughly enjoyed the show. The pupils are now keen to take part in the event again next year.

Library News Mock Week Hi! My name is David and I’m in Year 11. I am a full time Librarian and I am 15 years old. This means I should have been revising for Mock Exams, last week, but I always find time to help out. The Library is open from 1.10—1.40 (lunchtime). As a librarian I love the job because I am here to go through with you the process of getting a book and I am here to give advice. We have a new loyalty card which allows you to read 8 books then you get a free book to keep.

There are computers here in the library and there are some iPads too. If you need any assistance just come over to me or Ania as we are the Deputy Heads of the Library and Mrs Roberts is the Manager. I have been doing the job since September.

So if you want any advice or you want a book or help with homework then come along to the Library in room 10.

Maths Challenges UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge On Thursday 4th February 30 pupils in years 9 and 10 took the UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge. This involved answering 25 multiple choice questions in one hour. The following certificates were awarded…and well done to everyone else who took part.

Best in Year – Dane Evans (year 10) & Lewis Knight (year 9) Gold – Dane Evans Silver – Joe Lancaster Bronze – Billy O Rourke, James Cottam, Samuel Cruickshank, Katie Lee Runshaw Maths Challenge On Wednesday 9th March Mrs Mainwaring took four Year 11 students Jodie Moon, Lucy Dale, Jordan Kay and Jazim Latif to the Maths Challenge at Runshaw College competing against 26 other teams. The students started off the evening with an individual round then returned to the group to complete the second and third rounds which involved solving a number of Maths problems. The students had a great evening out meeting other Year 11 students across Lancashire and getting a real ‘feel’ for studying Maths A Level at Runshaw College.

Climbing Success Competition Congratulations to Molly Mansford, Isobel Turner and Beth Parkinson who were runners up in the Preston Schools Climbing Competition. Beth (who is currently in year 7) also finished runner up in the individual competition, which is as I am sure you will agree, a very commendable achievement. The boys team narrowly missed out on third place.
