English – The year 6 children will have their SATS in the week commencing 9th May. Thus, the main focus during summer 1 half-term will be test preparation. In school they will continue to revise spelling and grammar and revisit past reading tests to consolidate their comprehension techniques. It is essential that each day at home they go over their spellings, use ‘sats tests on line’ if they have access to the internet and ensure that all revision homework is completed on time. In addition to SATS revision, in summer 1 the children will be reading Shakespeare plays and other fictional works based on Tudor times. They will also be using information books to find out about life in Tudor times. In summer 2, they will be exploring the topic of the Titanic using fiction and information books. The children will continue to write in a variety of genres through both half-terms using these topics as well as the MAEI topic, The Tempest. Their speaking and listening skills will be developed as they continue to rehearse for the summer production of ‘The Tempest’, by William Shakespeare.

Water, Water Everywhere!

Maths - In the weeks before SATS, we will continue to prepare for the tests by revising key areas of learning and reviewing test technique. It is essential that, each day at home, the children go over their times tables as this will help them a great deal in their SATS. If they have access to the internet, then they should use ‘sats tests on line’ daily and ensure that all revision homework is completed on time. Following SATS, the children will be taught a transition programme of study in preparation for key stage 3 maths.
