We have had lots of children learning out of the classroom this week, with trips to West Stow, the Elizabethan museum in Great Yarmouth and the Hi Five Netball tournament at St Felix (results to follow). The staff are always very proud when the people we come into contact with on those trips, are so complimentary about the good behaviour and politeness of our children.

Please could I remind you that class photos will be taken on Monday and it would be extremely helpful if you could send your child into school with the correct uniform and shoes so that they all look as smart as possible!

I am very pleased that attendance at Reydon Primary improved during the Spring term, finally exceeding the nationally expected level by a small margin for the first time this year.

I would like to thank all our families for working so hard to get the children into school every day and on time. However, during the summer term, I must remind you that any holiday during term time cannot be authorised and persistent absenteeism could ultimately result in a fine. Thank you for your support.

500 Word Story Competition Winners Each week we will be printing one of the 500 word competition winners’ stories. This week it is Haeyden in Year 2 with his story, Fin the Dragon Slayer. Another action packed story for your enjoyment!

Once upon a time, there lived a boy called Fin. He was in the middle of having his lunch. Shortly after, he went to play with his toys. As soon as he had finished playing, Fin decided to play outside as it seemed such a lovely sunny day. Fin saw an apple tree at the end of his garden and thought how delicious one would taste, so Fin went to pick one. The apple was very red and shone in the sunlight, it tasted so juicy and sweet.

After eating his apple, Fin decided he’d like to play at the park. He had so much fun on the swings and slide. Fin had noticed a poster in the park, advertising a ‘funfair’ in town today. This made Fin smile. Off he trotted to the fair, where there were lots of fun rides waiting for him. Fin saw a very thrilling roller coaster ride, which he dared himself to go on. As Fin was approaching the top, he noticed something strange in the distance flying towards the funfair. At this point, Fin’s stomach felt like it was in his mouth as the roller coaster raced down the vertical drop. The strange bird that Fin saw, he could see no more. In fact, Fin couldn’t see much as he was riding round fast on the track. The ride had finished quicker than he liked.

Fin stood for a minute, scratching his head, wondering what it was he thought he saw in the sky. Just then, this creature flew down low through the crowd just missing Fin. He gasped and looked up and whispered to himself, “Could it be? A dragon?” Everyone was running around in panic, screaming trying to take cover from this dragon.

Fin stood there staring at the dragon. He knew he would have to defeat it. Fin grabbed a stick that lay on the ground, and wiped away the melted ice-cream that someone had dropped. Fin waited for the dragon to fly near him. Suddenly, Fin saw a clear shot to the dragon’s heart. He threw the stick as hard as he could, time seemed to slow as the stick flew nearer to the dragon’s heart.

Just then, there was an almighty sound that came from the dragon’s mouth. It fell to the ground with a hard thud. There was silence all around.

West Stow – Anglo-Saxon Village

Years 5 and 6 went to West Stow Anglo-Saxon village to explore their topic further. We had lots of hands on experiences including using an ‘auger’ to drill holes in wooden planks as well as learning about different AngloSaxon monsters. We also built fences and explored their beautiful museum. It was also commented on by the museum staff and the bus driver, how well behaved the children were!

Fin removed his trembling hands from his eyes and saw that the dragon was down. Suddenly, there was an almighty cheer from the people at the fair. The sound was deafening to Fin. The people ran towards him and lifted him high in the air. They shouted “Hooray for the dragon slayer.” A week later, Fin had an important trip to see the Queen from which she knighted him to ‘Sir Fin Drakewood.’ From this day forth, Fin lives to be a true hero, one hero no one will ever forget.

The End

Year 2 had a fabulous time on the trip to the Elizabethan House Museum in Great Yarmouth. We looked at old toys, how they worked and what they were made from as well as playing with old toys and making our own peg dolls to take back to school. Well done to all the children who were superbly behaved and proudly represented Reydon Primary School. Thank you to all the parents who were able to help on the trip.
