MARCH NEWSLETTER 2016 Hello, As Easter rapidly approaches, we need to say ‘goodbye’ to a few people who are moving on; Chloe Elphinstone has been teaching across the Early Years in Nursery and Reception. She is an amazing teacher, who is going to spend more time in her other role—being Mum. We are sad to see her go, but look forward to a time in the future when the children are a little older and she can return to full time teaching.

Judy Hargrave will be leaving Pugwash Nursery due to her moving house to a new town, we thank you, Judy for your hard work and wish you well. We also wish Jane Cronshaw, a member of our Kitchen Staff, good luck in her new job, after 12 years with the team.

Thank you to everyone for your support as the building works started. I am pleased with the way everyone has worked together to ensure we had a smooth start.

The PTA, Friends of Rye Primary are looking forward to an enjoyable Spring Fair and have planned some lovely activities, which I know your children will enjoy, so I hope to see you there! This event is not for fund raising, but is a very thoughtful way for the PTA to give back a little something to the children. I would like to say a personal ‘thank you’ for their determination to give our children special, enjoyable experiences.

When we return to school , we are supporting St Michael’s Hospice by collecting all our loose change, if you are able to start over the holiday we would be very grateful and will have a yellow collection point at the School Office on Monday 11th April.

Attendance Percentages since September 2015 We are constantly trying to improve our attendance which remains below the national average and thank the PTA for their funding support in giving the winning class £10 each week to bank for their own financial management decisions. We will therefore publish the class percentages on each newsletter for your information.

Please help us by ensuring your child attends school at all times unless they are too ill to do so.

School Uniform Following on from our plea in the last newsletter for everyone to ensure their child comes into school ‘Rye Smart’ in the Rye Primary uniform, we are very disappointed not to have seen an improvement with all pupils.

Anyone who is finding it difficult to find the funds, please come and talk to us confidentially, however wearing hoodies and trainers is not excused, as these are often more costly. We pride ourselves as a smart, respectable school, and wearing hoodies and trainers to school does not give that impression.

Following the Easter break, we will be keeping a very close eye on the clothing children wear to school, and we will be contacting parents if we feel it necessary. Hoodies will not be allowed, and black plimsolls or trainers do not constitute school shoes. We have printed the expected uniform below for information.

We would however, like to say thank you to all the parents who do send their children into school smartly dressed in the our uniform.

The school uniform is: Navy blue V-neck jumper with school logo (available for purchase at school)  School tie (available for purchase at school)  Pinafore dress, grey shorts, grey skirt, grey trousers  In Summer blue/white checked summer dresses  White collared shirts  Socks-grey or white  Tights - grey Footwear- Black sensible shoes Games and PE Kit For reasons of safety and hygiene, children need to be able to change for Games and PE lessons into:

Trainers or football boots may also be worn for games but please await advice from your child’s class teacher before purchasing. Track suits are not essential, but recommended for outdoor work in the Autumn and Spring months.

The school reserves the right to forbid any item of clothing, accessories or footwear (e.g. trainers) which are considered dangerous or unsuitable for school. The wearing of jewellery is not permitted due to health and safety reasons. If jewellery is worn, the school cannot be held responsible for any loss or injury caused as a result.

All clothing needs to be clearly marked with the child’s name.

All named items are returned to children.

Any items left unclaimed will be disposed of, you will be amazed how many there are!

Rye Primary News…..

World Book Covers!

To commemorate World Book Day recently, we held a competition. We invited children to copy their favourite book cover by dressing up and using props. Entries were either brought into school or e-mailed to the office to be printed off. We had an amazing response and the winners were: Early Years: Luca and Lottie Key Stage 1: Dinah Lower Key Stage 2: James Upper Key Stage 2: Beatrice Staff: Miss Baker and Miss Rowland with Mrs Townsend.

Well done to everyone who took part!

Jerwood Experience

Year 4 had another wonderful trip to the Jerwood Gallery in Hastings as part of The Pearls of the Sea programme they are involved with.

They took part in a workshop with artist Ed Boxall, were gallery detectives answering an art ‘I spy’ sheet and went outside to take photographs of the local environment. They even spotted some more Isacc Cordal sculptures that are hidden around the old town .

The children were brilliantly behaved and enjoyed the sun and the experience.

Haiden’s Disco We hope many of you will go along to the Disco being held in aid of ‘Haiden’s Chair’. The event takes place at Winchelsea Beach Hall, Sea Road, Winchelsea Beach on Saturday 23rd April from 2.00p.m—4.00p.m. The cost is £2.50 per child and drinks / snacks will be on sale. Super Swimmers!

We have some fabulous swimmers who took part recently in a sponsored swim for 'The Children with Cancer Fund'. The event took place at the Freedom Leisure Swimming Pool, and as well as the sponsored swim, there was also a tombola, raffle, penalty shoot-out and bouncy castle. The event was planned by our own Y4, Violet.

They raised £320.82 on the day, and once all the sponsor money has been collected they are estimating that they will have raised over £1,600. Well done all of you, that is amazing!

Violet went along to present the cheque in Polegate on 9th March.

Netball Update A great well done to our brilliant Y6 Netball Team, who qualified and took part in the cluster finals last week at St Leonards Academy. They came joint 3rd out of 10 teams!

Sports Relief A big ‘Well Done’ to everyone who took part in the Sports Relief event last week.

We hope you saw the photos on Facebook! Can we remind you all to send any money in before the Easter break so that we can count it and send it all off to Sports Relief!

No Dogs Allowed Please remember dogs are not allowed on the school site, this includes carrying or on a lead. Guide dogs are exempt.
