Pirate day!

How can I support my child at home?

SATs information

Your children will be taking the year 2 Statutory Assessment Tests (SAT’s) from May 11th.

During this time please encourage your child each day to do their best and make sure they get enough sleep. We will be revising for SATs after Easter as well as starting our Pirate topic.

To enable your child to do their best, please: Check your child does their homework that is given each Friday.

We will ensure that they have a selection of

maths, writing and reading each week. Make sure they complete this by the following week. They may need some help with their homework. We will give them a pack to help them revise in the Easter holidays.

Hear them read every day for 10 minutes and ask your child questions about their book. Ask them to retell in their own words what they have just read. Please comment and sign in their reading record each time you hear them. Please bring it to school every day.

Encourage them to go on RM maths and “I am learning” You can read this online pirate story and ask some key questions (see attached sheet): Go to the Oxford Owl’s website and find the ‘Project X’ series. Find Blackbeard’s ship and read it together.

It may be a bit tricky for everyone to read, so please do the questions together if need be. You will need to register, but this is easy, as long as you have an email address. This is a great website if your child wants to read more books and do some reading activities plus it reads it to you if your child isn’t too confident!
