Year 2 Summer Term 1 2016 Dear Parents,
We hope you all had a lovely Easter Holidays! Our topic this half term is ‘Toys Past and Present’. We will be looking at both toys and lifestyles from the past and considering the similarities and differences of today. Events this half term: We will be going on a trip to an Elizabethan House in Great Yarmouth for an old toys’ experience on Tuesday 19 th April where the children will get to experience using and playing with old toys as well as making one of their own! Keep an eye out in the book bags for more details about the trip. If you think you will be available to help on the trip (11.00-12.30) please let either myself or Mrs English know.
Curriculum outline During this topic we will be learning to understand what life was like for children in the past and comparing this to our own lives. We will also be looking at the materials toys are made from, identify the materials’ properties and comparing the way they are used. Using our materials knowledge we will be designing and making our very own working toy from the past! The other curriculum areas covered are below: Maths – Time, statistics, number and place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions and shape. English- Fiction- adventure stories- we will compare stories written by Jane Hissey and write our own favourite toy adventure story. Non-fiction- Non Chronological reports- we will be writing reports about toys from the past.
