Year Six Summer Term 1 Dear Parents, We are almost at the finish line! With SATs approaching quickly, I cannot thank you enough for all of the support. A massive thank you to all the children who came out for our Easter SATs School; it was very successful and I am so proud of the children for how hard they worked over those two days. I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable Easter break, and I am excited for us to get back to our learning. Events this half term: SATs week is May 9th-13th, 2016. We are going to West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village on 18th April, 2016. Please ensure all permission forms are returned promptly. We will be going bowling on Friday, 13th May. More information to follow.

Curriculum outline This half term, we will be studying many exciting things! Take a look below for a general outline. English: We will be looking at ‘Defeating the Monster’ texts whilst continuing to build our understanding of grammar and punctuation into our work. We will also be looking at instruction texts. Maths: In Maths we will be covering: Fractions, Decimals and Percentages, Converting Measurements, Ratio and Multi-Step Word Problems. Science: In Science we will be studying the life processes of plants, and comparing them with what we know about mammals from our previous unit of study. Art: Our main Topic for this term will be Graffiti Art. We will be discussing the legal implications of graffiti, as well as debating whether it is vandalism, art, or somewhere in between. We will be looking at Banksy and his influence on graffiti culture, as well as creating some of our own graffiti designs. PHSE: We will be focusing on our relationships with various people in our lives and citizenship within our local community. We will also be introducing the children to changes due to puberty, and the reproduction process.

General class reminders Homework - Homework will continue to be given out weekly. With SATs approaching, there will be work in our SATs Buster books. Please ensure these are returned to school every Monday in order for the students to reflect on the homework. These are wonderful review materials that really help prepare the children for the tests in May, so please keep them safe! Reading at Home – The pupils should still be reading at home every evening to further their understanding and comprehension of a text. Outdoor Wear/P.E. Kit- Please ensure that there is always an outdoor P.E. kit at school, as well as an indoor one in case of poor weather. As the weather warms up, more and more P.E. lessons will be taken outside, so pupils need to be prepared.

SATs Preparation As we are approaching SATs, here are just a few reminders: The date of the SATs is Monday, 9th May, 2016- Thursday, 13th May, 2016. It is very important that your child attends. I know the children will be very nervous as the dates draw nearer, but is important that they keep their schedules as normal as possible. If you or your child have any concerns regarding the SATs or their stress leading up to the exams, please come and see Miss Prindible or Mrs. Viner.

Thank you for your co-operation. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to speak to me after school. Miss Prindible and Mrs. Cooke
