In 4G & 4W this summer term Literacy
This term we are travelling to Pakistan with our story Sugarcane juice, where we join Hamid on an exciting adventure. We are going to look closely at how the author creates tension and suspense in the story and use these techniques in our own Hamid adventure stories. Later this term we will start a persuasive writing unit where the children will use persuasive techniques to encourage an audience to see a film in their own film trailers.
Maths
This term we are going to be focusing on the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). We will use different mental and written strategies to problem solve in each area. We will also look at place value and ordering numbers with 4 and 5 digits.
Science
Topic
In science this term we will be looking closely at living things. We will start by learning how to use and create keys to classify different animals. We will go on our very own bug hunts and explore vertebrate and invertebrate animals.
Our topic this term is a history unit titled – What was life like 100 years ago? We will be researching World War 1 and what life was like both for soldiers and the civilians at home.
Computing
Religious Education In our first topic this term, we will explore how the new life of the Easter message is spread through the power of the Holy Spirit. We will move onto relationships and the importance of admitting wrong and being reconciled with one another and God.
For ICT this term, year 4 are going to become authors, where the children will become familiar with pages such as Wikipedia, carry out their own research and develop collaboration and proofreading skills to create their own wiki page.
Language In Spanish this term the children will continue to revise topics covered earlier with Miss Wood and learn key vocabulary covering food items, days and months and body parts.
PE Those children that to go swimming will continue to attend to meet the National Curriculum requirements. Additionally, this term they will have gym sessions on a Tuesday.
