Our School Vision Statement

At Red Marsh School we learn together in order that all our pupils achieve their true potential. We strive to achieve our vision by creating an environment where every child and every member of staff matter, where we challenge each other to do our best, and where we strive to share our skills, knowledge and resources with one another, and with the wider community.

Meeting individual needs Red Marsh School prides itself on being a school where each individual is valued and encouraged to reach their full potential.

Excellent relationships between staff and pupils ensure that pupil’s individual learning needs are met. Small classes supported by experienced class teams ensure a high standard of teaching and learning throughout the school.

The school is committed to a multi-disciplinary approach to learning, this ensures that the health, social and therapy needs of all our pupils are effectively met.

Admissions

Red Marsh School is located in a modern building. The School is well equipped having its own hydrotherapy pool, mini bus, library, sensory room, and stimulating outdoor learning spaces.

Admissions take place throughout the year, parents/carers who are interested in visiting our school should contact the area education officer who co-ordinates visits and admissions to school. The area education officer can be contacted on telephone: 01524 581202 / 581138

The early years department comprises of a nursery room and early years foundation classroom. Both providing a vibrant and nurturing environment for our youngest pupils.

Early Years Foundation Stage

Primary and secondary class groups are based on age, all have adapted classrooms with outdoor learning spaces.

Our further education department is to be situated in a suite of rooms which caters for the needs of young people preparing for life beyond school.

All pupils in the EYFS develop skills through a personalised curriculum. The foundation stage curriculum forms the basis of many of the exciting learning opportunities that occur in this creative and nurturing department

Primary Our primary pupils continue to develop their skills through their personalised targets and through accessing all national curriculum subjects. Subjects are delivered in a creative way and are taught at the appropriate level for each pupil.

Secondary

Curriculum

When pupils enter our secondary department they continue to develop their personalised learning skills and continue to follow national curriculum subjects. Pupils are taught both in their class groups and for some areas of learning they are taught in module groups. All pupils in Key stage 4 (14-16 years old) will begin to work towards gaining accreditation.

Parents have the right to withdraw their child from religious education, collective worship and sex and relationship education if they feel this is appropriate.

Please inform the headteacher if you wish your child to be withdrawn.

Further Education This department offers age appropriate learning opportunities for all their students. The curriculum continues to develop personalised learning skills and offers a wide range of accreditation to meet the needs of all the students, some of whom join Red Marsh school from other local schools. Students in this department have many opportunities to learn outside the classroom including working in local colleges, volunteering, taking part in work experience and attending residential trips. Through an exciting curriculum students are helped to prepare for life beyond school which may include attending local colleges, entering work, attending residential college or accessing a personalised learning programme through Fylde and Wyre day services.

Extended Services In partnership with external providers the school offers a wide range of stimulating extended services including holiday clubs, inclusive after school clubs and residential opportunities.

Keeping your child safe Red Marsh School provides “outstanding” care, guidance and support for all its pupils, (OFSTED 2009) Comments from a recent parental questionnaire confirmed that the school provides, ‘an excellent caring ethos,’ ‘one in which my child is very safe and well cared for’. Guidance, care and support of learners is given on a daily basis.

The school council confirms, that pupils enjoy school and feel safe and happy.

Red Marsh is committed to safeguarding the pupils in its care and follows all guidelines laid down for safe practice in schools. The school has many policies and procedures which are monitored, to ensure the safety of all our pupils; these include child protection, diversity, anti bullying and safeguarding. If you wish to view any of our safeguarding policies they are available on request.

As part of our curriculum and throughout the day pupils are taught how to stay safe and remain healthy. As a result of this innovative work Red Marsh School has been accredited with healthy school flagship status.

We have strong parental links, believing that parents/carers have a vital role to play in the life of the school and the education of their child.

Parents/carers are welcome to come into school at any time to speak with staff.

In order to facilitate communication between home and school, there is a home/ school diary that travels with each pupil every day.

There are also planned opportunities for parents/carers to discuss their child’s progress; these include an annual review meeting; a parents evening and a “meet and greet the staff” evening.

There are opportunities for parents/carers to meet together and offer mutual support at the monthly Parent Point Meeting. In addition, we have a longstanding Parents Teachers and Friends Association.
