So already we are at the end of another term which has proved just as busy as the first! We hope you have enjoyed our Topic Fairs, Parent cafés, Shared Afternoons, Parents’ Evenings and Celebration Assemblies. Our children have won sporting trophies, and had visits and visitors to support their learning. We have also raised over £2500 through events organised by the Friends and by the school to support our library renovation and national charities. We are so proud of our children and the families that support them and we look forward to welcoming them back on Monday 11th April for more active learning.

And a farewell…

It has been a pleasure to work with the children, parents, staff and community of Reydon Primary over the last year. Reydon is a super school and it has been great to see the school move from strength to strength. I now feel the school is moving forward at pace, and will continue to do so with Mrs Viner leading the team. I will enjoy regularly returning to Reydon as part of our collaborative school to school work and I look forward to seeing the children involved in lots of our excellent sporting opportunities, plays and school trips.

500 Word Story Competition Winners Each week we will be printing one of the 500 word competition winners’ stories. This week it is Milly in Year 4 with The Two Sisters and the Eight Planets. It is out of this world!

A long, long time ago in mid Africa there was a large tribe that had two young, shy sisters amongst them. The tribe hadn’t really hunted for ages but when they did they had caught nothing, not even a rabbit.

Unfortunately, the starving tribe desperately needed food and water. It was decided that 8 of the tribes people would go and explore the colossal dirty peaks of the mountains in the distance, leaving the two beautiful sisters behind at camp.

As time passed, the tribe was stopped in its tracks. They could smell animal droppings, see deep paw prints, and hear bushes rustling and a faint roar in the distance!

Meanwhile at camp, the two sisters were warming some nuts for their dinner on a nourishing open fire, afterwards they tucked themselves into their warm beds under the night sky.

A grizzly mountain lion pounded out into the tribe. Luckily one of the tribesmen had his bow and arrow and shot the aggressive lion in the chest.

In the distance, amongst the tall trees, the terrified tribe could hear a glittery, free flowing stream. Although they were all tired and didn’t want to go any further, they used their resilience and scrambled to the fresh stream and filled their ageing bottles with water to the scream “Yippee!”

Unfortunately the dead lion was covered in nasty gnats so they decided to light a scorching fire, hoping that the flames and smoke would drive the gnats away. This worked. However a gushing strong wind fanned the fire onto the dry grass all around. The fire grew more and more widespread so the tribe hurried to the higher, cooler peaks of the mountain It wasn’t high enough! The fire reached out to them burning their soft delicate skin. With their hearts pounding, they screamed and shouted in desperation.

The gods who had been watching the tribe throughout had taken pity on them and given each of them the power of flight.

With their new powers, the eight members of the tribe flew high into the night’s dark sky.

Each night, they use their powers and make multi-coloured fireballs to create wonderful planets.

The two lonely sisters always think about the tribe and wonder where they are and if they have caught any food.

Sport Relief Raises £1692.99!

This has been a massive success and following the collection of the sponsorship money raised as a result of our Sport Relief Mile, children at Reydon Primary have currently raised a staggering £1692.99 towards the charity! We would like to say a huge thank you to all our families and community members who have supported the children and to those supporters who also ran or walked with the children on the day.

Easter Egg Raffle Thank you so much for your support of our Easter Egg raffle.

The Friends of Reydon are delighted with the £290.40 that was raised through the sale of the 1452 raffle squares! Staff at Reydon Primary would like to wish you all a happy and restful Easter holidays!
