Units of Work Option 1 Devised Thematic Work Candidates must prepare for, and perform, a piece of work devised in response to a specific stimulus or theme. The devised work must contain both elements of script – extracts from plays, verse or prose – and of original work. Option 2 Acting Candidates must prepare for, and perform, an extract from a script for a play. The script used may be either a published or unpublished text. Scripted drama must be learned.
Section A ‘practical work completed during the course’ preparation for the written exam. When preparing for this question, candidates will need to think about their skills development during the course when taking part in practical projects.
Spring second half
Text into performance. Students will produce a public performance. This will enable them to prepare answers for Section A of the written exam and also act as a third piece of practical
Assessed Pieces Controlled assessment. 1 of 4 in total. First piece of practical work will be assessed in the week leading up to the Autumn half term
Controlled assessment. 2 of 4 in total. Second piece of practical work will be assessed in the week leading up to the Christmas break.
Mock exam type assessment of section A of the exam 4 weeks into the spring term. This will be an internal assessment and will NOT contribute towards the student’s final mark. This will be a formal controlled assessment. The grade for this will be their 3 out of 4 practical grades.
Reading Skills Students will develop their ability to read text and use it as a stimulus for performance. They will recognise how text has an impact on a live audience and vice versa They will be able to analyse text as a group and as an individual and share their ideas about text through imagination and collaboration
Writing Skills Students will learn how to analyse text and construct a response to it using formal writing techniques. They will be supported to develop their written work to give concise, articulate and appropriate responses to texts in preparation for the written examination. They will learn to review live work so that they can articulate a point of view based on discussion and then give information to a reader audience about the experience.
