SOURIS SCHOOL NEWSLETTER http://schools.shmb.ca/sci. Number 2, September 26, 2014

NEWS FROM MR. WILLIAMS Hi, everyone. The leaves on the trees have turned colours quite rapidly this past week. Fall has arrived but the weather is warm. Hopefully this string of dry days continues so that the farmers can complete the harvest. Two summers ago we installed a refrigerated and filtered water fountain near the gym entrance outside of the Main Gym entrance. There is a counter on the fountain that tracks the amount of water bottles that have been saved from landfills as a result of the use of the fountain. Over the past two years we have saved over 35,000 water bottles by having staff and students fill their reuseable/refillable bottles at the fountain. Due to the overwhelming success of the fountain we have added a second one in the Middle Years wing of the School. We encourage our students to use these fountains rather than purchase a bottle of water from the machine. Important reminder to students and parents. 

Morning exercises begin at Souris School at 8:55 AM. Students are expected to be in their first class prior to that time. There is a warning bell at 8:50 AM. Students should begin to move to their classrooms at that time.

Presently we have a number of students who are walking in the doors while the national anthem is playing or while announcements are being read. That is not acceptable. Time management is one most important “soft skills” that a person can develop. “Soft skills” is a term relating to a collection of personal, positive attributes and competencies that enhance your relationships, job performance, and value to the employment market. We thank you for your anticipated support and cooperation regarding this issue.

I would like to remind all parents to check the Student Portal for your son(s) and/or daughter(s) assessment and attendance information. The username and password for each student is the same as last year. If you do not recall that information, please contact the school and we will provide it to you. The link to the portal is located on the Souris School website near the bottom of the left column. Have a great day.

VOLLEYBALL Varsity Girls The Varsity Girls travelled to Wawanesa Tuesday night to compete in their first league game of the season. The Sabres downed the Warriors 3-0. The girls had close games until they decided winning was the only option. Niamh McKenna lead the offense with 10 kills and Kristen Leverington followed with 7. Overall it was a great team effort. The Varsity Girls volleyball team remains undefeated in league action as they beat Boissevain 3-2 last night. It was a very heart pounding, thrilling game but the girls came out on top! The girls' next action will be Tuesday when they host Killarney. Varsity Boys In Varsity Boys Volleyball action in Boissevain last night the injury-laden Sabres came back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the match and force a 5th game. Unfortunately they got down early in the set and couldn't recover. Brendan

Roberts had 24 kills in another outstanding offensive performance.
