he truth is our opinions of “thin” may be different, but when we feel healthy and look great in our clothes —most of us will agree we have a different attitude toward life and health.

This prompts the perpetual question we seem to hear daily from our patients... Why can’t I lose weight? Almost every patient who has this complaint states they exercise and barely eat... but yet the pounds keep multiplying. Can this really be true?

It is true we inherit certain genes, we may be prone for obesity or be lucky enough to inherit a great metabolism... in either case, being healthy is the important issue. You can be “skinny” and unhealthy, you can be on the “robust” side and be very healthy, but obesity should never enter the equation with the word “healthy”.

In some cases, there may be an underlying problem such as depression, thyroid, metabolic, or hormone complications. All of these concerns need to be addressed and tested before proceeding with any type of weight-loss program. In addition, your diet may have added to the problem sending you into a vicious cycle of continued weight gain. There is a solution, but first you have to try to find one... and we are here to help.

After concluding you do not have any of the preceding problems or we have addressed

the problem, it is time to be honest with yourself and/or Dr. Schilling and his nurses, so they can help you set goals for yourself. As mentioned earlier, opinions are different, so first we need to come to a realistic agreement of goals for YOUR body type.
