Whether a beginner or already a superstar, the All-Star Sports Instruction staff will enhance children’s play. Camp is designed to equip players with the proper attitude, mechanics and know-how to ensure confidence and success.

Basketball Skills Camp

This camp is designed to teach basketball at a basic level and keep players active and engaged. Basketball-like games will be played to teach the importance of each skill learned. Camp will focus on dribbling with each hand, passing and shooting technique, and understanding basic offense and defense.

Flag Football Skills Camp

Quarterback, running back, line play, receiving and defensive tactics will be focused on. Small sided games and competitions will take place. Contact is minimal and there will be no tackling!

Pickleball/Badminton Camps

Pickleball is a combination of ping pong, tennis and badminton. This competitive game for experienced players uses wood and graphite paddles and unique plastic balls. It is easy to learn, provides plenty of exercise and played on a badminton court. You don’t have to be strong, quick, athletic or good at other sports. This game is not about power, but shot placement and accuracy. For more information, call the Sport Center at 847/891-1266.

Learn the ins and outs of soccer from Professional Soccer Academy instructors, former professional soccer players and college athletes.

All facets of soccer including dribbling, passing, receiving, shooting and defense are worked on throughout the week. Campers receive a T-shirt, water bottle and soccer bag. The last day of camp is spent at the Fun Zone at Soccer City Indoor Arenas. Each camper experiences an inflatable obstacle course, 20-foot slide and the Jumper. Activities include Soccer Olympics and a water fight (weather permitting). Bring a soccer ball, shin guards and water jug.

Beginners receive basic skateboarding instruction with an emphasis on balance, pushing the board, kick-turns, maneuvering and manual.

Intermediates learn maneuvers including ollies, shuv-its, kick-flips, board-slides and grinds on flatland, transitions, ramps and rails. A liability form must be signed by a parent before participation. Camp is directed by instructors from Skyhawks Sports Academy. Campers receive a T-shirt and merit award.

Skyhawks Track & Field Camp

Using special equipment, Skyhawks staff teaches the standard track and field events including long distance, sprints, soft hurdles, relays, shot put, discus and standing long-jump. The exercises and drills prepare athletes for cross country, track and field, and distance running.

Body positioning, stride, proper stretching and cool-down techniques are covered. Participants will put it all together for one fun-filled day at the end-of-week track meet.

Schaumburg Saxon Football Camp

Camp focuses on football fundamentals in a non-contact format. Skyhawks T-Ball League

This camp introduces the core skills of passing, catching and de-flagging/ defensive positioning. Participants can showcase their skills at the Skyhawks Sports Bowl. Campers receive a T-shirt and merit award.

Skyhawks T-Ball is designed for young athletes to discover the excitement of competition while learning the basics of baseball. The first week of the program will consist of two training sessions to introduce the participants to the program. During this time, the coaching staff will be evaluating the participants so that teams may be created equally.

The participants will be separated into teams for the first team practice and given a Skyhawks T-shirt to use as their uniforms. Participants are encouraged to decorate the shirts with their name, team name and favorite number.

Skyhawks Golf Camp

Golf is a challenging and lifelong sport, so young athletes need proper focus on the fundamentals of form, swinging, putting and body positioning. To assist in this training, Skyhawks has adopted the SNAG (Starting New At Golf) system to its curriculum. SNAG utilizes a set of equipment designed for beginning golfers including oversized plastic club heads and ‘mini tennis balls’ to help build confidence and have fun. Developed

by PGA professionals, SNAG is specifically designed for the entry-level player. All equipment is provided. All participants receive a T-shirt and a merit award.

Volleyball Camps

These volleyball camps are instructed by Jane Addams Jr. High coaches Dan Hallman and Lisa Heidler. Basic to advanced skills are taught based on ability.

No prior volleyball experience is needed. Kneepads and gym shoes are required.

Bulls/White Sox Camps at the Sport Center

Sports Camps “Inside Out�

Enjoy these sports jamborees inside the friendly, climate-controlled confines of the Sport Center. Campers will learn and play basketball, volleyball, soccer and baseball. Each camper must bring a brown bag lunch each day.

Chicago White Sox Baseball Summer Camps

The beginner camp is open to boys and girls ages 5 and 6 and is designed as an introduction to baseball. The intermediate camp for ages 7 and 8 includes fundamental skills work on throwing, hitting, bunting, fielding, pitching and base-running. Fundamentals will be reinforced by playing fun skill games. The White Sox camp for ages 9-12 builds upon the basics to advance skills to the next level. Depending on the skill level of the players, camp will touch on advanced hitting and throwing techniques, team play, advanced base running and other techniques that may be used on the field. Blast Jams

Blast Jams is designed to provide musicians with the rock band experience. Campers will receive instruction from music professionals and have a blast forming a band that writes an original song. Musicians must enroll for electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass guitar, drums, keyboard or vocals. Guitar students must provide their own guitar and amp if electric.

Computer Explorers classes are project-based, hands-on and designed to make learning fun! These classes build confidence with technology and improve children’s ability to think critically and problem solve. As directors and producers, children will work in teams to create a story and script, create background scenes and film a movie using toys. Campers will use graphic editing techniques and stop motion animation, add background noise and music, and show the movie at a private screening on the last day of class. All students receive a copy of the movie after class is complete. The final movie will be posted on the Computer Explorer’s YouTube channel to be viewed by friends and family.

Fruits and Veggies to the Rescue Camp

Parents know fruits and veggies are important to kids’ health and nutrition. But getting them to eat their fruits and veggies isn’t easy. This program taps into kids’ imaginations and love of superheroes to inspire them to “love and eat” their fruits and veggies. Camp activities include drawing and dressing up as superheroes to battle the germ guys and junk food characters, making clever edible art out of fresh fruits and veggies and tasting a variety every day, and fun experiments with food and gardening. Children will train by building their muscles at the wacky workout gym. Kids will make their own superhero masks and go on an edible scavenger hunt. Preschool Readiness Going to preschool in the fall? Get a head start by joining this interactive preschool class. The preschool teachers will encourage children to explore art, ask questions, construct buildings and make new friends. Computer Game Design Camp

Specially designed software is used so campers can easily create multimedia computer games and animations. Developing a script or program is done by simply snapping together graphical program blocks much like LEGO® bricks or puzzle pieces. Tributes will spend time with mentors learning about wild edibles, building fires, mastering camouflage techniques and more while preparing for the challenges that lie ahead. Children will enter the arena and try to outwit fellow tributes in challenges that test teamwork, endurance and creativity. 2014 SUMMER CAMPS

JUNIOR LEADER PROGRAM FOR 13 TO 15-YEAR-OLDS (Must meet age requirement by Sept. 1, 2014) Schaumburg Park District is seeking enthusiastic 13 to 15-year-olds who want to become leaders and potential staff members. Applicants must be 13 years old by Sept. 1, 2014.

This fun experience is a great way to introduce the concept of employment responsibilities to teens. There will be a required fee of $20/$30 for the Junior Leader program. The fee is payable when registering for a Junior Leader interview or a returning Junior Leader information night.

New Applicants

• Complete the Junior Leader application available at www.parkfun.com, CRC, PSC and MRC after March 3.

• Submit the required application and two recommendation forms before Friday, March 21 to: Kathy Moulds Pat Shephard Center 421 N. Springinsguth Road Schaumburg, IL 60194 • Register for one of the group interviews on April 1, 7 or 8.

Detailed information will be included with the Junior Leader paperwork. The $20/$30 registration fee for the interview is a required fee for all Junior Leader participants.

• All individuals chosen to be a Junior Leader must register for the mandatory kick-off meeting on June 7.

Returning Junior Leaders

If you are interested in returning to the Junior Leader program, there is no need to reapply. If you do not receive a letter by March 3, contact the Pat Shephard Center at 847/490-7036. Returning leaders must register online for one of the information nights on April 1, 7 or 8 and the mandatory kick-off meeting on June 7. The $20/$30 registration fee for the information night is a required fee for all 2014 Junior Leader participants.

Kick-Off Meeting: Saturday, June 7 • 9AM-Noon • CRC Junior Leaders must register and attend the kick-off training meeting. There will be mini training sessions and a pizza lunch.

Parents will attend an informational meeting at the same time their child attends their interview or meeting.
