Schaumburg Park District fitness centers and lap swim pools have reopened with new safety measures in place: Social Distancing Workouts

We have spaced out fitness equipment and reduced cardio machine availability throughout our facilities to allow for social distancing while working out.

Reservation System

Due to capacity restrictions, fitness members will be able to reserve one-hour time slots. Reservations may only be booked 24 hours in advance either online or by calling 847-490-2505 (CRC), 847-884-0678 (STP), or 847-985-2144 (MRC). Please note that same-day reservations are not available online and must be made over the phone. In order to keep accurate track of who is in the building and allow staff time to clean equipment between reservation blocks, fitness center doors will be locked until 10 minutes prior to reservation times.Â

Locker rooms will be available for changing only. Lockers, showers, sauna/steam room and towels will not be available.

As Illinois enters Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois plan, we are committed to keeping our patrons and staff safe. Below is a summary of our updated safety protocols. If you are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms, please do not enter facilities!

Patrons should wear face coverings over their nose and mouth when entering the facility and whenever social distancing cannot be maintained (except for people with medical conditions or disabilities that prevent them from safely wearing a face covering).

Please maintain social distancing while in facilities. We have placed floor stickers, signs and directional arrows throughout our facilities reminding patrons about social distancing. Masks must be worn anytime social distancing cannot be maintained.

Staff are regularly cleaning all frequent touchpoints including door handles, counters, bathrooms and equipment.

Cleaning is being done in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Group sizes will be limited to no more than 50 people at all times and in most cases, will be signifciantly less.

Semi-Private (Family) Swim Lessons

Families can take swim lessons together! Students in the same household can be taught together by one instructor. All levels are welcome. It is recommended that students in semi-private lessons be of similar levels to get the most out of these lessons. Instructors will be wearing masks when they are not submerged in the water. Space is limited and participants will be contacted by an instructor to schedule the day and time one week before lessons begin.

NEW! Outdoor Fitness Classes

Our expert instructors will lead you through a variety of moves that will get your heart pumping and help you burn calories! Classes run for one hour and are $8 each. Registration for each class closes 24 hours prior to the start of the class.

Classes meet under the tent at the CRC. Participants will be spread out to allow for social distancing.

Participants should bring their own mat. All equipment will be sanitized before and after each class. Register online via class name (barcodes change week to week).

Outdoor Summer 2020 Swim Camp

This summer we are happy to announce that we will be running a six-week Swim Camp focusing on stroke technique, speed, endurance and starts and turns. This swim camp is open to all the competitive swimmers that are looking to improve their skills and stay in shape for their next competitive season.

Swimmers will be able to do morning and/or evening practices on their given day. There will be no “make-up” days for weather or vacation-related missed practices. If you have a credit on your account you may use that credit to pay for this sixweek session. Practices will be held at the Meineke Recreation Center Pool and we ask that you bring your own equipment for practice (kickboard, pull buoy, paddles, fins, goggles, water bottle, towel and cap if needed). Limited access to the facility will be available during practice times.

Dates: 7/6-8/14 Level 1 – The swimmer that has some competitive experience, but still needs work on stroke technique, starts and turns.

Our partners at All Star Sports Instruction are offering a wide selection of Zoom classes for a variety of sports and age groups. Session 3 begins the week of July 6. ATHLETICS Tae Kwon Do

Tae Kwon Do is a Korean martial art and Olympic sport. Class is taught by a seventh degree Grandmaster and teaches the application of blocks, kicks and practical self-defense. Korean self-defense, the art of escaping from holds and grabs in a safe and effective matter, is also taught.

Class is designed to develop physical strength, flexibility and coordination as well as reduce stress.

Skyhawks Golf Camp

This camp focuses on the fundamentals of form, swinging, putting and body positioning. Skyhawks utilizes the ShortGolf® system which uses modified equipment and a curriculum developed by PGA professionals. ShortGolf is specifically designed for the entry-level player and simplifies instruction so that young players can make an easy and effective transition onto the golf course. No need to bring your own clubs, all equipment is provided. For safety reasons, we keep the instructor to camper ratio for this camp very low, resulting in limited availability.

This camp offers a fresh, enthusiastic approach to teaching youth soccer. The curriculum presents the most current and advanced information on the development of players. Our quality staff builds on fundamental techniques while creating an atmosphere that unlocks the love of the game within each child. Camp is designed by Michael Wiggins, two-time Illinois High School Soccer Coach of the Year and Head Coach of the 2014 Illinois HS Soccer State Champions.

Golf Lessons

Join our professional golf instructors for a private half-hour lesson. Whether you are a beginner or veteran player, lessons are designed to address your individual golf needs. The fundamentals of full swing, chipping, pitching and putting are covered.

Junior Golf Program

The Schaumburg Junior Golf Program is a developmental program for juniors ages 8-14.

Registration is limited to 10 students per session to ensure students learn at their own speed and are given maximum individual attention. Students are taught the fundamentals of the golf swing including proper grip, body alignment and posture. The program is administered by the Schaumburg Golf Academy.

Let’s Draw and Paint!

Discover essential pencil drawing and painting techniques that will help bring your compositions to life. Experiment with acrylics, pastels and watercolors while you learn about color, shadowing, texture and brushwork.

‘I Want to be a Star’ - Wizard of Oz

This program will prepare actors for auditioning.

Instruction will focus on musical theater and includes acting, singing, choreography, blocking, reading music, improvisation and audition preparation. Each participant will perform in a short musical adaptation for friends and family on the final day of the program. This is a great experience for aspiring actors!

SPRING VALLEY Firefly Fandango

Witness one of nature’s marvels as the summer sun sets on Spring Valley’s prairies and woods. After a short discussion on fireflies and how and why they produce light, groups will be taken on a twilight wagon ride to view the incredible light show to be seen on mid-summer evenings.

Insect Safari

The summer prairie is buzzing with excitement and insects! Youngsters will go on a hike to catch and study the large variety of insects to be seen at Spring Valley. Participants will be supplied with capture nets and bug boxes and will play games, work on a craft project, and have a ton of six-legged fun.

Just Desserts

Wild berries abound at Spring Valley, and many are edible! Youngsters will go on a hike to learn where black raspberries and blackberries grow and will harvest some to make a Dutch oven cobbler over a campfire. Participants should wear long pants and closed-toe shoes for this activity.

This class is designed to help you and your young child connect with nature. Our child play experts will guide you through a series of unstructured play activities using the natural habitats and Play Pockets at Spring Valley. Schaumburg Park District is pleased to offer all-day summer camp for children ages 4-14.

Camp runs M-F now through August 14. Camp procedures have been adjusted to accommodate appropriate social distancing while still providing a fun atmosphere. Camper to staff ratio will be 8:2, and each group will remain in the same room for the duration of camp. Rigorous cleaning and disinfecting procedures have been put into place.

Since the current climate makes travel difficult and many locations are still closed, we will be bringing the fun to camp! Instructors from our art, dance, fitness and athletics programs will be visiting camps regularly to engage and energize campers.

Camp locations are based on age group. There are two time slots per building to better stagger drop-off and pick-up. For additional flexibility, registration is per week. Only five-day camp is offered. Cost is $200 per week.

Java Game Design 1 & Minecraft Modding in Java

Students use Java and the dev environment Greenfoot to learn object-oriented programming concepts and skills.
