MENTAL HEALTH MAY

Every year since 1949, the month of May has been observed as Mental Health Awareness Month. In May, organizations like Mental Health America and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) come together to educate individuals on mental health conditions and provide resources for support.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mental health is “a state of mental well-being that enables people to cope with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn well and work well and contribute to their community.”

Below is a list of our other Mental Health May programs:

• Organizing & Mental Health • May 7

• Mental Health Panel with Schaumburg NAMI May 9

• Online: Civic Awareness Series - Mental Health & Your Town • May 14

• Finals Week: Brain Breaks • May 21 & May 22

• Mindful Drawing: Mandalas • May 23

Stop by the Library to explore programs and resources for teens to learn more about your mental health and explore how our community can support you on that journey.

This year, in partnership with the Township of Schaumburg’s Mental Health Board, we will be hosting the Minds Matter: Mental Health Fair to learn about different mental health topics from local organizations. We will also have crafts and activities available. The Mental Health Fair will be held on Saturday, May 4 from 1-4 p.m. at the Central Library.
