FIXTURE INFORMATION

Our season started on 5th August 2013 with a total of 842 League fixtures scheduled for the season Under FA regulations the Premier Division needs to finish by 4th May in order that the FA Leagues Committee can meet shortly after (last season it was the following Thursday) to finalise the allocation of clubs to the National League System steps 2 -6.

Last season we received dispensation to go after the closing date provided all fixtures were completed for teams who had applied for promotion, and the extension did not impact on their position in the top 5.

As an example this season, Mendip Broadwalk and Frys have applied. It is therefore necessary for them to complete by 4th May, but if there is another team who have not applied but by completing their fixtures later than that date can push one or other of those teams out of the top 5 they too must complete by 4th May.

This was the criteria FA used last season, and although we have applied for an extension again this season it does not necessarily mean it will be granted, or that they will use same criteria.

The criteria I set the computer when first creating was that fixtures should be completed as soon as possible; this then left a lot of space at end of season for rearrangements because of weather and cup successes.

It is important to note that of our teams almost 50% are impacted by ground availability; either sharing with cricket (which means they couldn’t play at home until 9th September or after 27th April), or sharing with another team either in our League or at a higher level.

So where are we now ?

As at 28th February, 176 games have been postponed – 7 in the cup and 169 in the League. That equates to 20% of the league fixtures for the season – although it is a much higher percentage of the games scheduled before today’s date.

At the last Board meeting I reported that only a couple of teams were in a position whereby they needed to play midweek games in April and May with 6 30pm kick offs We now have 18 such fixtures and hopefully we can stay close to that figure This has been helped by utilisation of Bank Holidays

However, a couple of teams who share their ground with cricket teams who cannot play after the end of April at home are on Tuesday/Thursday fixtures. Unfortunately their home fixtures are disproportionately at home in the period most likely to get hit by bad weather.

The respective divisional figures are as follows for unfit ground postponements:

Premier Division - 47, Division 1 - 31, Division 2 - 59, Division 3 - 32

Fortunately we have been able to utilise teams with floodlights to ease the situation – and although again I have tried to restrict travel in respect of midweek games this is not always possible and unfortunately some teams are having to travel distances, although mainly for floodlit games, and only one team (so far) has moaned. But that is what you sign up for in a countywide league.

Hopefully we are over the worst and we can complete the season in good weather.
