Terraced vineyards line the sides of the Douro Valley, dotted with traditional red-roofed farmhouses and tiny villages. Vinhateiro was the first demarcated wine region in the world, established in 1756, and the whole area is World Heritage listed. Arrive in Vega de Terron this evening.

The quiet city of Vega de Terron sits on the border between Portugal and Spain and it’s your departure point for the Spanish city of Salamanca, known as the ‘golden city’ for its glorious sandstone architecture. Join a full-day tour to discover the city’s treasures, from its famous university founded more than 900 years ago to its elaborate cathedral and delicious central market. Alternatively, stay in Portugal and visit the village of Freixo de Espada à Cinta to learn about its long tradition of handcrafted silk and then visit a local quinta to taste fresh seasonal produce.

Pocinho > Pinhão f

The small village of Pocinho was developed in the late 19th century when it became the terminus for the Douro railway line. The historic wooden station still stands today. Visit the fascinating Côa Valley Museum to learn about the region’s paleolithic rock art and join a workshop to interpret the daily activities of pre-historic people. Or travel to the small village of Freixo de Numão to see a slice of traditional Portuguese life, then visit Casa Painova to see how sugared almonds are made and taste their products. Relax on board this afternoon as you cruise towards Pinhão.

Another pretty village surrounded by vines, Pinhão is a favourite of wine enthusiasts. Start your morning with a visit to the hilltop village of Provesende to learn about their history and daily life – an experience exclusive to Scenic guests. Active travellers have two choices this afternoon. Hike through the vineyards of Quinta da Roêda followed by a wine tasting or gain a new perspective on the landscapes while kayaking along the calm Pinhão River. Alternatively, relax with a wine tasting at a quinta. You’ll remain docked in Pinhão overnight.

It’s a full day of cruising towards Porto today, so you can sit back and admire more of the breathtaking scenery of the Douro Valley. This could also be the time to enjoy more of the features of Scenic Azure – take a dip in the Vitality pool, relax on a sun lounge or book in a spa treatment§. Arrive in Porto this afternoon and prepare for an unforgettable evening.
