Ask the expert What shape will suit me? The question we get asked the most at an appointment! It’s best to try on a few silhouettes at your first appointment so that you can choose one that feels the most like you and fits your personal style. Maybe it is the dreamy princess shape or the sexy fit and flare. You won’t know until you try it on! Pay close attention to how the dress fits your body type and whether it’s accentuating your best features and de-emphasising your insecurities. If you have always loved your narrow waist but are not a big fan of your hips, then an A-line shape might be the best fit for you. There are no golden rules for this. You know when you have the right shape when you feel confident and beautiful! And that’s exactly how you’ll want to feel on your wedding day.

ANNA COUTURE

A Historical Garment, Today’s Fashion! Anna-Maria D’Amato has been creating beautiful, bespoke corsets for 20 years. After acquiring her BA Hons degree in Costume for the Stage & Screen, Anna had the good fortune to work for many years in costume for feature films, television and theatre. In 2002 she set up her successful bridal design company in London and having moved location to Stamford, now owns and runs her boutique, Anna Couture, offering glamorous evening and day wear, accessories and of course, bespoke bridal design, specialising in corsetry.

The Corset – so where did it all begin? Plain and functional, the humble corset as we know it today, made its first appearance in Europe in the early 16th century. Originating from Italy, the garment was initially introduced into French culture by the Queen of France, Catherine de Medici. The earliest corsets were constructed from stiff materials such as a linen-cotton blend or a layer of leather. As the century evolved, busks made from whale bones and wood were sewn into the linings and seams of the corset. This was to provide a more rigid structure and a style that was to epitomise the first notable corsets within Europe. Corsets worn in Elizabethan England were fitted and laced properly, making them more comfortable to wear. It wasn’t until the late Georgian period when the corset really began to progress towards a curvier shape which included the introduction of cups to support the breasts. By 1908 these kinds of corsets had fallen out of favour and the corset shape evolved once more. Favouring a more natural silhouette, this time the corset rested under the bust and extended to the mid thigh. This change marked the beginning of the girdle. The Great War of 1914 caused female fashions to evolve rapidly. As the men went to war, the women took on new roles and required less constricting clothing. At the war’s end in 1918, the age of the ‘flapper’ dawned and new elastic fabrics became more sought after. Were the days of the rigid corset gone forever more?

22

SCENE-Spring Wedding Magazine- Inside pages.indd 20

26/02/2018 11:36

ANNA COUTURE It wasn’t until the 1950s that a fuller figure became fashionable, with women idolising the curvy pin-up image as portrayed by icons of the era including Marilyn Monroe and Bettie Page. The corset once again fell out of immediate favour throughout the 1960s, 70s and 80s and it wasn’t until the early 1990s that the mystical corset had somewhat of a revival. The sexual connotation initiated by neo-burlesque icon Dita Von Teese reprised the allure of corsets through her infamous dance shows and characters. Some of her most notable corset wearing performances include rising from a giant martini glass and riding a carousel horse. Throughout the 21st century, the corset has continued to evoke erotic appeal and has been bolstered by the booming burlesque industry, with performers choosing to wear corsets for performance. Whether you want to wear your corset for the purpose of waist training, aim to solve a problem with posture or simply love the empowerment of wearing a corset, come and talk to Anna-Maria about suitable corsetry styles to introduce a timeless and truly classic garment into your life. Whether you are after a historical twist or a modern chic silhouette, each item is individually designed and made to suit you.

Anna-Maria allows you the freedom to pick everything from design, fabrics and decoration. For this unique and exclusive service please visit or call the Anna Couture Boutique.

VENUES

After a truly memorable and unforgettable wedding venue? With endless possibilities, finding the right venue can be a headache and the biggest expense of the day. Never fear! We’re here to help with our top tips for finding your perfect wedding venue. Start searching early Many wedding venues book out early, some years in advance, so get on to booking it, it’s never too early! After all, without choosing your venue and booking the date, you can’t confirm anything else, so it’s a crucial step of the planning process.

Keep an open mind While searching, keep an open mind and look into as many different venues as you can. You may just find that a wedding venue you would have normally overlooked is actually perfect for your big day.

Read reviews from other brides It’s definitely worth reading bride reviews about your shortlisted venues. Reviews are a fantastic way to gauge a venue’s consistency in their service and to get a general idea from those who have actually paid for it!

Narrow down your list Once you’ve researched as many venues as possible online and have looked at reviews, narrow down your list by considering which you’d be interested to visit and make an appointment. Visits are an important part of the process to help

determine which one you ultimately like best, not something to do based solely on pictures or videos. Being in a space allows you to experience the ambiance, meet the staff, see how spacious it is and help you visualise how you can set it up.

Consider your budget Having a discussion with your partner about your venue budget before visiting ensures you are both on the same page and are more prepared when going to appointments. It will also save time. After all, if you know the per-head cost is double your budget, there’s little point wasting time visiting. Having as much information with you at your appointment will make it easier for the venue co-ordinator to give you an idea of price and packages to suit your budget.

Visit at the same time of year as your wedding will be Try to visit the venue during the same time and season you will be marrying, preferably when they are set up for a wedding or event. This will help you visualise the look and feel of the venue for your day.

30

SCENE-Spring Wedding Magazine- Inside pages.indd 28

26/02/2018 11:37

VENUES

Know your needs

Ask for professional opinions

How many people are you inviting? Do you require anything specific of the venue? Will you be taking props, or having cultural or traditional rituals or processions? Do any guests have special requirements such as wheelchair access or childfriendly facilities? Know exactly what you need from your wedding venue so you can discuss these things when you meet with the venue coordinator.

Ask the venue’s wedding co-ordinator if they have any recommendations regarding styling and set up of the venue to accommodate your guest numbers and theme. You’ll have your own ideas but they know the venue and how to get the most out of their reception spaces. They will usually have further recommendations of how best to plan your schedule for the evening, as well as other ideas to make your wedding exactly how you visualise it.

Consider your theme While it’s much easier to build your wedding style and theme around your venue, some brides will already have a certain look in mind, and this will often dictate which venues they put on their shortlist. For example, a bride who has her heart set on a rustic-styled wedding will naturally gravitate to venues which are congruent with that look. You will however, be surprised how many venues can accommodate the look you want, simply with the right styling elements and lighting choices, so don’t be afraid to ask!

Consider travel time The logistics of your wedding day are important to ensure your schedule runs smoothly and allows you ample time for the important things. Consider the distance between the ceremony location and the reception venue you’re interested in. Limit unnecessary travel for yourselves and your guests if you can.

Take photos While most venues will have images on their website, taking your own photos can give another perspective. This can also help you visualise where you’d like to place objects such as the photo booth, sweet cart and any other styling decorations you might like to bring. You can keep these photos as a reference for when you organise decorations and things like flowers or furniture hire with other vendors.

‘Reviews are a fantastic way to gauge a venue’s consistency in their service’.

Do a menu tasting Most venues offer menu tastings which help couples make a better-informed decision about what dishes to serve their guests. If the venues you are interested in offer menu tastings, make the time to take part. Besides, it’s fun!

sweethearts

Childhood

Alex & Abbey Barnett married at Irnham Hall on 12th August 2017

As childhood sweethearts since 16 and after being together for nearly 5 years, I proposed on 26th March 2016. With an engagement ring from James Allen of New York, the big question was asked in Burghley House sculpture gardens as it’s the most special place for Abbey (plus she didn’t want anyone else there!). Celebrations continued at her favourite restaurant, The George Hotel in Stamford. During our ceremony we had Abbey’s maid of honour Lauren sing the Ellie Goulding version of ‘How Long Will I Love You’. We also had a surprise sing-along to 500 miles (I’m gonna be) by The Proclaimers at the end of the ceremony! Certain people had rehearsed for singing certain lines and from the chorus onwards everyone joined in which was great fun and everybody loved it!

by Alex Barnett

We started looking for suppliers through family contacts that had the services we required, and after that we searched for local companies with good reviews. I would definitely recommend seeing at least two of each type of business i.e. photographer, DJ, as that way, we knew that the ones we were chose were definitely the right ones for us. Being completely honest we wouldn’t have changed a thing about our day. I think the biggest reason for this is that we made sure all the people we were using knew exactly what we expected of them - the DJ knew exactly what music we wanted playing at every single stage of the day (which he executed perfectly!) and our photographers Paul and Sue met with us and did an engagement shoot to get to know us and 37

BRIDAL REVIEW understand what type of photos we wanted taking on the big day, which again, went so well. We loved how friendly and genuinely excited they were to capture our special day so it was a very easy decision to choose them over our shortlist of other photographers.

I would recommend making sure that your guests always have something to do/ eat/drink throughout the day so no one becomes bored. We had our speeches before the meal, which is a great idea for people that aren’t that comfortable with public speaking (like me!) so you don’t have time to panic and spoil your lovely meal.

Cake: Cookies and Cupcakes and the main cake was made by close family friends Dennis and Sheila.

We loved the way the venue staff made the day flow so well. All the work that went on behind the scenes presented the venue in its full beauty. Our best tip would be get everything organised sooner rather than later so you can relax on the days just before the big day itself.

As far as the venue goes, Irnham Hall was first on our list, as recommended by family friends who had previously been married there. As soon as we arrived we knew it was the one. We fell in love with Irnham from the offset and didn’t look anywhere else.

BRIDAL REVIEW

Bri

Rev

Sarah and Andrew got married at the Great Northern Hotel in Peterborough. Andrew tells the story from start to finish, after he planned the whole thing.

It was Christmas Eve and we were in our PJs exchanging gifts. I had bought a Harrod’s Christmas teddy for Sarah and set it up with a bag containing a charm engraved with “will you marry me?” along with a personalised box of M and Ms, also with the big question printed on them.

W

e had talked about getting married and had been to a couple of Wedding shows for some ideas. Sarah had already chosen her dress, so that bit was easy! The next step was choosing suits for the men, again all fairly easy, and whilst looking at suits we were given tickets to the East of England Wedding Fair at the Peterborough Arena. Within 2 months we had

organised the car, cake, flowers, suits and gifts!

Car - Prestige and Classic Wedding Cars

W

e spoke to a gentleman named Ian – he was lovely. So much so, that we asked specifically for him to be our driver on the day. He talked us through the different cars available, helped us to set an appointment, and gave us a clearer idea of the logistics of getting the entire bridal party to the church.

Flowers - Flowered Up by Sam

W

e knew what sort of flowers we wanted, but didn’t know much about arrangements. Sam came to the house, laden with photos and possible ideas, and gave us a clear run-through of what we could have for the bouquets. Sarah

BRIDAL REVIEW has never really been a ‘flower’ sort of person, and we both wanted to develop the link to our love of the outdoors, so we decided to have herb pots instead of table pieces. These then doubled as the favours. Sam was brilliant at grasping what we wanted, and sourced some lovely decorative pots to plant the herbs in. She delivered everything in good time, and they looked fantastic.

Cake - Windmill Bakery

M

uch like the other suppliers, we chose Lucy based on a combination of the examples she showed us, and her welcoming nature. We met at her bakery for a cuppa, and she sketched out the cake, based on our ideas. We knew we wanted something simple, with a slight difference to the norm – it was finished with 2 gingerbread people for the toppers, and a Scout Necker for the ‘ribbon’. We had even managed to buy a woggle with our names heat-engraved onto them, which Lucy incorporated into the design. We also had a stack of Macaroons, in shades of green (Sarah’s favourite colour).

Gifts

W

e had already bought gifts for the bridesmaids 2 years earlier! We had necklaces made in Egypt with their names in hieroglyphs. All we needed was a box to keep them in. We didn’t want to get tankards for the men (Sarah’s family all have several!) but instead liked the idea of a pocket watch. We gave trinket boxes to both mothers and everything was personalised with people’s names, ‘position’ within the wedding and the date. It was all ordered within 3 weeks of being engaged! By this point, we’d already decided that the Great Northern would be the reception venue. It had all the features we wanted (larger, well-kept room, dance floor, internal bar, plenty of rooms for guests, convenient to get to), and the staff were brilliant. We attended the wedding open evening at the hotel, to see the room set up, and decided on a hog roast for the evening.

“My best memory of the day was seeing Sarah entering the reception room for first time” I wanted everything to be perfect, and I knew that she was happy. Sarah’s best memory is our first dance. I don’t dance very often (two left feet!), so wanted to make the most of it. Our first song was Hey There Delilah, by the Plain White Ts – a song that we shared when we were living in different cities. She has said she also loved seeing me at the end of the isle trying not to look at her – I do tend to get emotional! If we could do anything differently then Sarah has said she would have got ready earlier. Lacing up the dress took 15 minutes alone! For me, I didn’t leave enough time to enjoy myself and relax. Guests were arriving but I wanted to make sure all was done and perfect for Sarah.

Where our ideas came from Table decorations: herb pots resting on slices of tree trunk. We’d seen this idea at a wedding fair and added hand-written labels asking the guests to take them home and help them grow. Cheeseboard: Sarah’s parents provided everything for this. It was kept a secret until the day before the wedding. The cheese was arranged on old dishes on antique wooden doors. Wooden spoons were used to hold printed labels, detailing the name of each cheese. There was also a selection of crudités. And cheese. Lots of cheese!

resorting to following certain people around (Father of the Bride) until they had signed! Shoes: Converse – Sarah’s sister Wendy decorated the shoes with green rhinestones, spelling out Sarah’s new name, and the date. A real cost saver and a great afternoon making them with lots of laughs!

Theme: Scouting was the theme as it’s where we met. It influenced the table decorations and cake and kept it natural, with an outdoor feel. The tables were named after different Scout camp sites we’ve stayed at, with an OS map showing their locations. Guestbook: Wooden hearts, signed and dropped into a frame. We wanted something that wouldn’t get shoved in a cupboard and never looked at again. Sarah had seen this idea in use at a birthday party and thought it would be perfect. Our middle nephew (aged 10) took on the job of collecting signatures. He took it very seriously,

Wedding insurance and gift list were both with John Lewis. Random touches – ‘bride and groom’ rubber ducks to the top table (Sarah has a collection at home!), personalised packets of Love Hearts for every guest, chocolate name cards for all guests and home made invitations.

In less than 10 months, we achieved everything because we were organised and knew what we wanted. It can get expensive if not kept to a budget. If you go into it not knowing what you want, you could easily get caught up in the excitement, and spend a fortune. If you don’t have any ideas to start with, visit a few fairs, with an agreement NOT to book anything there and then!

“My advice would be to plan ahead, have a clear timescale, use a spreadsheet, understand the lead times on things like handmade sweets and have a budget - a clear understanding of what is achievable!”

MARQUEES

From local expert Stamford Marquees

Starting with a blank canvas! Many couples think that going it alone and having a marquee wedding is a budget-friendly, easy option. But this isn’t always the case! Don’t underestimate the amount of work involved – not only in the organisation but the actual set up as well. It’s a much greater challenge than a hotel or country house venue because you have to organise everything from scratch. Adrian Forrest from Stamford Marquees offers up his top tips to help you out with those all-important factors to take into consideration. What style? Think about the reception style you desire as this will affect the type of marquee that you could hire – traditional, frame, giant tipis or the new clear roofs, for example. Also think about the site of the reception; traditional marquees cannot go on hard-standing surfaces like courtyards or tennis courts so in this instance you’ll need a frame marquee. Will you want windows and doors or completely open on one side? Do you prefer round tables, square tables or long banqueting tables? Do you have a feature in the garden you want to incorporate? Perhaps a favourite tree, pond or flower border?

village hall car park or nearest hotel and have provided a shuttle service to and from the ceremony/reception.

Toilets With a large number of guests attending the wedding you will need to organise some mobile toilets. Take some advice from the marquee hire company as they have the experience with dealing with other companies. They might also have a great working relationship and offer discounts or extras. Check the capacity is suitable for the number of guests attending and what power it requires to ensure you hire the right size generator. Who will run all the cabling for you and will these be laid down safely?

Access Whenever hiring suppliers that will arrive in larger vehicles, think about the access available to them. A classic mistake is only measuring the width of vehicles but not thinking about the swing needed – this is especially true of mobile toilets and generators. If access is narrow and deliveries have to be scheduled in, make sure suppliers know the relevant time slot and explain any difficulties with the access available.

Parking You need to think about parking for guests and backof-house suppliers. If parking is in a nearby field then provide a solid walkway for guests in case it is raining. Walking across a sodden field in heels is not much fun! Ensure there is good signage, so people know where to park and the route back to the car is lit with lanterns. Alternatively, clients in the past have used the local

Food glorious food Check with your caterers what size catering marquee they need to service your wedding proficiently. Ensure your caterers have access to fresh water, this can be simply an extendable hose into the catering tent.

Lighting Whether you want practical or mood-enhancing lighting, ask your marquee company what lighting specialist they would recommend. Don’t forget to light up pathways to key areas at night, like the exits and car parks. Also, don’t forget that you will need lighting outside if you have a hog roast as well. Food For Thought! How about a picnic basket wedding breakfast, packed per couple, for those hot summer weddings sitting in the grass drinking Pimm’s. If you have roses in your bouquet, cut off their heads and push 6inc of the steam into a potato and plant it in a pot. This will grow and flower again and again so you never lose your flowers from the day.

THEMES

Glorious Gold If you are looking for a timeless classic look, you can’t go wrong with gold. It goes with any colour; dusty soft pink for spring, full bodied red for Christmas, or just a crisp white that will never date.

Top tip! Avoid the brash yellow gold tones and instead choose an antique or pale gold shade to give a rich and opulent touch.

THEMES

"Even your cake could have some bling with edible glitter"

A

ll that sparkles doesn’t have to be expensive. Give your room the Midas touch with a couple of cans of good quality gold spray. For autumn, spray pine cones, branches, feathers, pumpkins or anything you forage. Use fallen leaves as decorations, spray them and write guests names on them to use as seating markers. Any spares, hang them with string as decorations. If you’re not a flower person, want a keepsake or just fancy something different, a brooch bouquet ticks the boxes and adds even more glitz. Tableware can shimmer and sparkle - use gold charger plates and napkins. Even your cake could have some bling with edible glitter, gold leaf, shimmer sprays or gems.

THEMES

Fabulous Flamingo! As The Wedding Scene predicted in our last magazine, the Spring/Summer 2017 issue, flamingos are a trend influencing 2018/2019 wedding styles. Here are a host of ideas to help you be ahead of the game with some funky flamingo fun.

Top Tip! Don’t go over the top with a shocking Barbie pink shade or you might end up with a kids tea party theme. Instead, pick out candy floss pink, worked in with turquoise and mint shades to keep it fun.

To bring all elements together, repeat the same shade of pink in your flowers, cake and stationery but be mindful you don’t overdo it. For an extra element of texture, add in gold pineapples as decoration to your centre piece or cake topper. Bake flamingo shaped biscuits to use as wedding favours – why not ice them with guests’ names to double up as place setting markers. Whatever you decide with this theme, its fun and cheerful and is bound to make your guests smile!

BEAUTY

Don’t smudge those eyes! Our favourite waterproof eyeliners Adding an eyeliner to your chosen makeup look on your wedding day will add a sophisticated, classic look that’s simply timeless.

Eyeliner’s come in different consistencies with the popular ones being khol, liquid, gel and pencil, so be sure to pick one that’s right for you. There’s a lot of eyeliners on the market to choose from so to point you in the right direction, we have our top 5 recommendations to hopefully make your decision a little easier!

10 Eyeliner Tips 1. Avoid using a blunt pencil because you won’t get the precision 2. Use the correct type of liner that suits you and your eyes 3. Don’t use liquid liner on the bottom lash line 4. Always put the lid back on your eyeliner to avoid it drying out making it difficult to use 5. Always tight-line your upper waterline to avoid any gaps in the lashes 6. Use microporous tape to perfect your winged/cat eye liner (or a Post-It note!) 7. Use makeup primer on a cotton bud to tidy up any mistakes

2

8. Look down, not straight, into the mirror for a better angle when applying liner 9. Blend the liner with a pencil brush or angled brush for a softer look

This half up, half down combo of a teased out plait and soft curls with flowers sums up new season 2018 trends!

Wedding hair trends for 2018

The main trend of 2018 is a natural bridal look. It’s time to give up stiff structured hairstyles in favour of soft curls and romantic braids. Flower crowns are incredibly popular and help to create a romantic and tender look. Check out the flower ideas on page 78 to give you more ideas on how to work both flower and hair elements together.

Loose and romantic curls don’t have to mean messy and rough. A smooth finish works perfectly with a delicate hair brooch.

Use hair extensions to add length and thickness. Either colour match exactly for a seamless finish, or pick a contrasting colour to add depth and texture.

To be an on trend bride in 2018, simplify the traditional full veil with a delicate, single layered one.

FITNESS

Shape yourself up! Need help to look fantastic in your wedding gown? Following our big day workout plan...

Ground Rules and

t raining tips

Set yourself up for success

Be realistic

Have a plan and a target so you have something to focus on. This provides a purpose and a direction. You would never get in the car without a destination in mind so your fitness should be no different.

Expecting to drop 20 pounds and four dress sizes in a month is not only unrealistic, it’s unhealthy. A reasonable goal would be to aim to lose a pound per week. When strength training select weights that are challenging. You will not get bulky using heavier weights; that’s a myth that just keeps women from getting strong.

Identify your motivation - What is the reason you want to do this? By connecting with your motivation then even during difficult times, you can use that reason as your motivation to complete your workout.

Plan your fitness regime like you plan your wedding The biggest mistakes brides make is waiting too long to start a fitness programme. Allow at least 12 weeks to see significant changes.

Eat enough Starvation or crash diets do not work. They cause your body to hold on to your fat as a defence mechanism and your body will just burn muscle leaving you with a “skinny fat” look which you don’t want for your wedding.

Kick up your cardio workouts Do interval training; short, high-intensity exercise periods alternated with periods of low intensity. To know if you are working hard enough you’ll want to feel breathless at the end of the interval and need recovery time..

You are what you eat The phrase ‘You cannot out-train a poor diet’ is true. Rather than embark on a fad diet, just eat healthily. Eliminate cakes, biscuits, alcohol and fizzy drinks.

Stay hydrated Always make sure you are drinking enough water over the day and also during and after your workouts. 73

FLOWERS

Here, we’ve picked out our favourite ideas to help you create 2018’s on trend floral showstopper!

A ‘blooming’ masterpiece A couple of designers have recently brought the flower jewellery trend to the forefront, and it hasn’t gone amiss. Variations of the flower crown in the form of a tiara, bracelet, and statement necklace are on the rise. The crown This ring of larger headed steams is worn horizontally on top of the head and works well with long relaxed curls. The tiara A much thinner ring of smaller delicate flowers than the crown, worn in more of a vertical position sitting in the hair like a hair band. It looks at its best with an up do. The band A small cluster of blooms are gathered and secured to a ribbon, chain or string of pearls and is fastened around the head in a horizontal line, but to one side. The best hair style for this flower accessory is a side fishtail or messy bun, with the flowers on the same side. The necklace A new idea coming through for 2019 – flower jewellery. Chunky neck garlands look fresh and fabulous with a deep v neckline dress. Why not take it one step further with a floral ring or bracelet. 78

SCENE-Spring Wedding Magazine- Inside pages.indd 76

The brooch Flowers have been worn as pinned corsage for some time, but this larger and fuller statement piece is a true showstopper. Instead of bridesmaid bouquets, opt for this stunning idea which works perfectly on soft plain dresses all in the same tones as the brides bouquet. Don’t forget, when pinning your corsage and buttons holes... Men: flowers on the left, pointing upwards and outwards, women: flowers on the right, pointing downwards and in!

Top Tip! Every girl loves peonies but these should be avoided! Though they could work for a more avant-garde look, traditional brides actually change their minds after realising how large they appear when worn. The best rule of thumb is to choose smaller florals such as ranunculus, hellebore, succulents, astilbe and astrantia which work perfectly in jewellery pieces.

HONEYMOONS

Your big day is over, it’s honeymoon time! Choosing your honeymoon destination naturally requires a lot of thought and budget is certainly a key factor in the final decision. Whether you want to travel far afield or stay close to home, without doubt this is one of the biggest decisions you will make and, to make this a little easier, Inspirational Travel has put together some ideas which we hope will inspire you.

Cyprus K

nown as the island of Aphrodite, the goddess of love, Cyprus truly lives up to its name as a top honeymoon destination. Rich in history and stunning scenery, it is a picturesque island in the Eastern Mediterranean, with long hot summers and mild winters. It has a number of popular resorts, with excellent restaurants andtraditional tavernas. Whatever the standard of hotel you choose, you can expect excellent accommodation and service. With its fabulous beaches, year-round sunshine and delicious cuisine, Cyprus is a must go-to honeymoon destination.

P

Indian Ocean

icture powder-soft, white beaches and the glistening azure ocean and you will almost be there. It really is as picture-perfect as those postcards depict. Whether you opt for an idyllic Maldivian island, or one of the sophisticated resorts in the Seychelles, Mauritius or Sri Lanka, you will not be disappointed. Beautiful weather and friendly people make the choice a difficult call. All offer an excellent choice of accommodation, with all-inclusive options. This beautiful part of the world is truly romantic and will certainly give you a honeymoon you will never forget!

80

Caribbean

HONEYMOONS

P

robably one of the most popular honeymoon choices, with its year-round climate, white sandy beaches and azure seas. Vibrant and colourful, you can choose from destinations such as Mexico, St Lucia, Barbados, Antigua and the Bahamas, each one unique in what it can offer. The majority of resorts offer all-inclusive packages, which makes it easier to budget. The amazing food and Caribbean hospitality certainly puts this destination at the top of the list.

Greece R

ich in culture with stunning scenery and landscapes, Greece is certainly a romantic destination and a strong honeymoon contender, particularly as it is only a short flight from the UK. Whether you are looking at the natural beauty of the mainland or one of the many islands, there are various styles of accommodation to choose from. The glamourous island of Santorini comes top of many honeymoon wish lists, with its whitewashed villages and spectacular views, or how about vibrant Crete or stylish Mykonos? Whatever your choice, there is no doubt that Greece offers fine cuisine, beautiful beaches and many hours of sunshine from April to October.

Italy

T

here’s no denying that Italy is a reliably romantic choice for honeymooners. Few could argue with a honeymoon on the Amalfi Coast, with its iconic towns and villages including Sorrento. The island of Capri is one of the most sought-after places in the world, although you’ll need a healthy budget to check into a fabulous hotel. Puglia has long been dubbed the new Tuscany which may or may not ring true, but it has charm with stunning hotels and sandy beaches. Venice remains another iconic city of romance with some of the world’s best hotels or how about going off the beaten track to some of Italy’s more undiscovered regions such as Chianti and Le Marche. Other options include the romance of Sicily, the beaches of Sardinia or a three-centre tour of Rome, Florence and Siena.

Gather your lasting memories

W

hen the party is over, the honeymoon is a distant memory and thank you notes have been sent, most brides start to gather lasting memories of their wedding day, from dried bouquets to framed photographs. Your wedding dress probably cost hundreds, if not thousands of pounds and is one of your lasting wedding day investments, so why not ensure it is cleaned and stored properly?

Whether you’re selling it or keeping it, Peters’ Cleaners in Stamford and Peterborough will ensure your dress is as good as new and stored in breathable paper, conserving the fabric to stop staining over time or moths and mould from creeping in. We can even clean your shoes for you too! Founded more than 50 years ago, we are experts in fabric care and can consult with you on the best way to treat stains for your make of dress-from tulle to taffeta. So, whether your Aunt Agatha spilled red wine on you mid-hug or you trod in a muddy puddle during the photo-shoot, we will work tirelessly to ensure your entire outfit is a fond keepsake from your big day, or ready to go on its next adventure as good as new.

Prices start from £120 and we offer a range of beautifully boxed storage options as an additional extra.

We use gentle chemicals to reduce fabric damage during the cleaning process and will clean the dress a minimum of three times to deal with the toughest stains – even those that have set. Earlier this year we cleaned a taffeta dress that had been in the wardrobe for three years before it was brought in for cleaning and as you can see from the before and after photographs, time makes no difference at all. We can even take dresses passed down through the generations and have them looking as good as the day they were first worn.

Taking the Stress Away Peters’ Cleaners helped 2 local brides with last minute problems before their big day: One bride from Peterborough bought her dress from a local shop’s closing down sale. The dress fitted perfectly but looked dull as it had been on display. The dress had a mix of glass and plastic beads - the plastic ones would have melted during dry cleaning but with only

weeks to go we removed the beads, cleaned the dress and re-attached them. We pressed it along with her bridesmaid dresses and all looked perfect for her wedding at The Bell in Stilton. Another bride from Stamford got her Manolo Blahnik satin shoes dirty when practising her wedding dance. She gave them to us and we cleaned them within 24 hours so they were as good as new for the big day.

If you need help to prepare for your big day, give us a call and we’d be happy to help.
