As a member of the Sherman Carter Barnhart team, you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate closely with an experienced project team by contributing to the development of architectural drawings. Through this entry-level position, you’ll have the chance to apply the knowledge and skills you’ve acquired during your architectural education while enhancing your skills with industry-standard software such as; AutoCAD Architecture and Autodesk Revit.

day to day expectations • Collaborate with the design team to generate and develop design ideas.

• Produce design drawings and construction documents, presentation drawings, graphic design work, and digital models using AutoCAD Architecture, AutoDesk Revit, Civil 3D, Carlson Software, SketchUp, Lumion, Twinmotion, and Adobe Photoshop.

• Work with team members from concept through construction administration.

• May attend field site inspections to provide field measurements, which frequently involve a physical walk-through of the site.

• Attends and actively participates in project team meetings.

• Is self-directed, takes initiative, and seeks thoughtful solutions for design execution.

• Demonstrates motivation in seeking new responsibilities and challenges.

• Performs other duties as required.

WHAT’S REQUIRED • • • • • • • • • • • • •

Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Architecture.

Knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM).

Experience with Autodesk Revit is preferred.

Experience with AutoCAD Architecture, is preferred.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.

Knowledge of 3D Modeling and Rendering software such as Sketchup, Lumion, and Twinmotion is not required but beneficial.

Knowledge of Photoshop and/or Illustrator graphic software is not required but is beneficial.

Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.

Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing highquality work.

Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to stay on task and meet deadlines.

The ability to work autonomously and within a team environment.

Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Eagerness to learn and adapt in a dynamic architectural environment.

I joined SCB in 2006 as a Project Manager and transitioned to Construction Administration in 2013. I wanted to be apart of the "reality" of what we design. Architecture doesn’t just exist on paper, built architecture exists in space. Construction administration is where design and reality meet.

The best designed documents still require a guiding hand to reach their physical potential. The old saying, "the devil is in the details", could not be truer as a construction administrator. The eye for and execution of the details is where a space comes to life and architecture becomes more than just a dream.

I joined SCB because throughout the interview process they stressed opportunities to learn. I wanted a firm that would encourage my growth as I worked toward becoming a registered Architect. To have the entire firm behind you when you are taking the hardest exams of your career motivates you to get passed that finish line. Another reason I chose SCB was the projects they take on, I’m currently in the K-12 studio and have been given the opportunity to meet with teachers, board members and students in order to meet the community’s goals.

Since being at SCB I think the best surprise, I could have ever gotten was the studio culture I came to love in school never changed when I got to the ‘real world’.

The people are what make a workplace and I’m glad I’m surrounded by such great people that give me every chance to grow and learn in many different roles and stages of a project.

When looking for internships, I chose to work for SCB as a student intern because of their K-12 studios and how they integrate sustainable and environmental aspects into their designs. SCB also designed many buildings on the University of Kentucky’s campus which also intrigued my interest in the firm. After being at SCB for a 2 years now, I have noticed that the studio culture is very similar to the one we developed while attending undergrad at the College of Design, University of Kentucky.
