and strengthen your painting skills using watercolor and/or acrylic. Innovative approaches in watermedia painting create endless possibilities for expression—take risks! It’s for those who believe in letting chance and subconscious impulse play a role in their work, and who like to let abstract images lead them to exciting discoveries. Painting & Drawing Workshops Symbolistic Painting Workshop

January 12 and 13 with Barbara Tiffany 9:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. in Studio 1A Throughout art history, symbolism has been used as a means to tell a visual story. Through a thoughtful selection of props, you can tell a personal story about yourself, your family, a particular experience, or even enhance a commissioned painting. There can also be images such as a landscape or animals, slightly suggested in the background to enhance the story. You may work from life or a photo on this project. Speaking with Barbara ahead of time may help you come up with some ideas that are personal to you. Since each painting is unique to you, bring your own materials. There will be a half hour break for lunch daily. Members $150 • Non-Members $170 WKP47 Barbara Tiffany has loved art and nature her entire life. Beginning her career as a commercial artist, she began participating in outdoor art festivals, as well as museum exhibits and competitions, winning awards along the way. She has been teaching since 1984.

Painting From The Intuitive

March 1, 2, and 3 with Patricia Wheeler 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. in Studio 1A The spirit of art is always affirming. Students will work from their intuitive side to build paintings that can transform personal experience or vision into art. Using the concept of palimpsest, where remnants of earlier, imperfectly erased markings are revealed, we will employ scripts and symbols to create abstract paintings. We will use limestone clay on board with a variety of acrylic paints as stain, and cold wax to seal the final layer. As we build, stencil and cut into the paintings, we begin to understand the layering and distressed surfaces of ancient places and how that can metaphorically reflect ourselves. Prerequisite: Basic design sense. This work is physical and messy. Emphasis on working in series. Members $455 • Non-Members $475 WKP48 Patricia Wheeler is a multimedia artist and activist whose focus is community and connections, the collective stories we carry as a society. In her work she explores the intersections between language and image. Wheeler holds a BA from Rutgers University and has exhibited her work nationally and internationally.
