As a curator, I am deeply honored to present the collective dedication of the 40+ faculty members of our esteemed Crealdé School of Art. Their commitment to the arts is not just a profession but a vocation, a calling that goes beyond the confines of a classroom or studio. Each faculty member brings a unique perspective to the table, their individual experiences and backgrounds enriching the tapestry of our institution. They are not only teachers but artists in their own right, each with their own distinct voice and vision. They are the lifeblood of our institution: their passion and dedication inspire our students to push the boundaries of their creativity and explore new artistic horizons. Our faculty is committed to fostering an environment that encourages artistic exploration and innovation. They believe in the transformative power of art, and they are dedicated to nurturing the next generation of artists, equipping them with the skills and knowledge our students need to make their mark on the world. The dedication of our faculty members is the cornerstone of our institution. It is evident in the countless hours they spend in the classroom, in the studio, and in one-on-one mentoring sessions. They constantly seek new ways to inspire and challenge our students, to ignite their passion for art, and to help them find their own unique artistic voice. Their unwavering commitment to the arts and to our students is what makes Crealdé a beacon of artistic excellence. We are immensely grateful for their contributions, and we look forward to seeing the fruits of their labor in the works of our students. — Patrick Noze | Senior Gallery Curator, Crealdé School of Art

APPROACHING 50

Andrew Grant PAINTING PHOTOGRAPHY SCULPTURE &CERAMICS DRAWING JEWELRY

A faculty member in Crealdé’s Painting & Drawing Program, Andrew Maurice Grant was born in Montego Bay, Jamaica and migrated to the United States at an early age. Grant’s mother always had art in the home, which influences the way he approaches his own art to this day. Grant’s subject matter is centered around women, depicting them in the most noble light, visually. His inspiration is women solely, as they have been the most consistent force in his life. Grant finds that representing women, especially black women, acts as a homage he is paying for the nurturing, generosity and kindness he has experienced all of his life. Throughout high school and college, Grant continued to hone his technique and had the opportunity to take Art History I and II at the University of Central Florida. When reflecting on those years, he realized he had limited exposure to people producing the type of work and subject matter he now explores exclusively. With consistent research and study, he has since found communities near and far that hold representational art at the highest standard. He studied with Terry Traumbauer Norris at Crealdé School of Art and privately with Carol Broman in 2010 and 2011. Academic techniques were introduced to him and a high priority was placed on developing the skills necessary to bring a vision to life.

ARTISTIC ENRICHMENT JEWELRY My Father’s Ears by Elaine Person

I guess I wound up with my father’s ears, so large I will not wear my hair pulled back. Ironically, the organs do not hear too well. It is the low tones that I lack. My closest friends have never seen my lobes with piercings long and stretched beyond belief. The flesh is pulled with very saggy holes. That I can grow my hair long gives relief. Most women decorate their ears like trees at Christmas with small baubles and big balls. Only with hair blowing in the breeze are my lobes accidentally seen at all. My big ears match my father’s to the letter. With their huge size, you’d think I’d hear much better.

Writer, instructor, editor, speaker, performer, and photographer, Elaine Person has a parody of King Arthur included in Random House’s A Century of College Humor. Her writing is published in Florida Writer Association’s collections, The Florida Writer magazine, Sandhill Review, Not Your Mother’s Book, Poets of Central Florida, Haikuniverse.com, The Five-Two, Encore—from National Federation of State Poetry Societies (NFSPS), Cadence—Florida State Poets Association’s (FSPA) annual anthologies which she co-edits, The Isolation Challenge, and Poetic Visions Museum of Art-Deland exhibit and anthology. Person won the Saturday Evening Post limerick contest, East Lake County poetry contests, and NFSPS, and FSPA contests. She performs a one-woman show called Humor in A Hurried and Harried World. Elaine writes “Person”alized poems and stories for all occasions and teaches writing workshops. Elaine Person was the recipient of the 2022 Florida Writers Association’s Kaye Coppersmith Award for Writers Helping Writers. Elaine became a Crealdé faculty member in 2022.
