15 years in Romania Part of the Greek financial group Alpha Bank, Alpha Bank Romania was the first foreign bank opened in Romania after 1990.

Through the Treasury Department, Alpha Bank Romania offers a wide range of products and services primarily aimed at optimizing customer profit, resulting from the current account. The awards received in recent years have confirmed the strong position earned by Alpha Bank in Romania. For its contribution to the development of the financial sector, Alpha was awarded the title Best Greek Success Story, by The Diplomat and the Greek Embassy in Bucharest. In 2007, Irish Times named it The Best Corporate Bank of the Year, and Piaţa Financiară awarded the title of Best Product of the Year to the product Alpha Dreams.
Despre Alpha Bank • About Alpha Bank Alpha Bank a fost fondată în 1879, în oraşul Kalamata. În 1918, departamentul de banking al firmei J.F. Costopoulos a fost denumit Bank of Kalamata. În 1924, banca şi-a mutat sediul la Atena şi a devenit Banque de Credit Commercial Hellenique. În 1947, denumirea a fost schimbată în Commercial Credit Bank, în 1972 în Credit Bank, iar în 1994 în Alpha Credit Bank. În 1999, aceasta a achiziţionat 51 la sută din acţiunile Băncii Ioniene, iar un an mai târziu a absorbit-o. Denumirea bănci rezultate după fuziune este Alpha Bank. În 1993, Alpha Bank Group, Banca Europeană pentru Reconstrucţie şi Dezvoltare şi un grup de investitori greci au înfiinţat Banca Bucureşti. Aceasta şi-a început activitatea în 1994, iar în 2000 a fost redenumită Alpha Bank România. Din 2005, Alpha Bank este acţionarul majoritar al acesteia, cu 99,43 la sută din acţiuni.

Alpha Bank was founded in 1879, in the city of Kalamata. In 1918, the banking department of the company J.F. Costopoulos was renamed to Bank of Kalamata. In 1924, the bank’s headquarters were moved to Athens, and it became Banque de Credit Commercial Hellénique. In 1947, the title was changed to Commercial Credit Bank, in 1972 to Credit Bank, and in 1994 to Alpha Credit Bank. In 1999, it acquired 51% of the Ionian Bank, and one year later absorbed it. The name of the bank resulting from the merger is Alpha Bank. In 1993, Alpha Bank Group, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and a group of Greek investors established Banca Bucureşti. The bank started its operations in 1994, and in 2000 was renamed Alpha Bank Romania. Since 2005, Alpha Bank has been its majority shareholder, with 99.43% of the shares.
