Abi & Paul Back at our Wedding Event with a Difference in February 2011, we launched an amazing competition – giving away over £5,000 worth of wedding supplies courtesy of a selection of some our best and most reputable wedding suppliers. Lucky winners, Abi & Paul scooped the prize and were quite honestly dumfounded when they found out what they’d actually won (details at the end of this feature on exactly what they had included within the prize). So, their wedding day has now been and gone and it’s time to showcase their big day to you all – here’s the lovely bride Abi to tell you all about it:

Save The Date | Issue Fifteen

“We got married on the 26th May at Southwell Minster followed by a reception at The Old Vicarage Boutique Hotel in Southwell. We chose The Old Vicarage as it’s not too big and not too small. It’s set in beautiful grounds and has been lovingly refurbished to an amazing standard which has created a modern venue whilst keeping some of the grand character. When we first visited The Old Vicarage, we had looked around so many different venues but we absolutely feel in love with it. Southwell Minster is only a few minutes’ walk away too. It is absolutely stunning, breath-taking when you first walk in and when we first saw it we realised this was where we wanted to get married. Choosing my dress was really difficult, I knew I wanted something fairly classic and simple but I found it really hard to pick ones out, when I found out I had won the Save the Date competition and went to see Amy at The Little White Dress I couldn’t believe my luck. All of her dresses are amazing and the first one I saw, I knew it was the one straight away. It reminded me of Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly and I love that style, as soon as I picked it up, I couldn’t wait to wear it!

Again for the theming of the day I wanted something classic, simple and understated. I went for a dusky pink as it was fresh and pretty but not too girly for Paul! I also like the vintage theme so when I spoke to Rebecca from Floraldeco about the flowers we discussed how to carry through the pinks and vintage theme with types of vases and roses we could use. Tineke Floral Design also helped to transform our day with gorgeous blooms and my bouquet was just amazing. Honeysuckle and Castle were also great at making this work and really helped when I came to choosing favours, chair sashes and table runners. When I saw the room and the tables on the morning of the wedding I couldn’t believe how amazing it looked! I can’t thank all of my suppliers enough for all their hard work and making the day perfect.

We had Just Ben for our entertainment and he was there all day making sure me and Paul were ok and put on a fantastic show in the evening, he definitely went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed every last second! To add to the theming of the day, I do wedding cars supplied us with the most amazing car! We were so lucky with the weather which meant we could have the roof down and Pete from I Do Wedding Cars was really good at calming me and my dad before we went to the church. Joanne from Cakey Wakey blew us away with the brilliant cake, it was huge and looked amazing with the theme. James White was absolutely fantastic I would recommend him to anyone. He got to us at about 8:30 the morning of the wedding and left just before I went

to church. Not only was all of our hair amazing but he really made us feel at ease and helped us all feel more relaxed and enjoy the morning. I would like to say thank you to all of the suppliers - they were all fantastic and made it so easy on the day which meant we had nothing to worry about. Our day was perfect for me and Paul it was everything we could have dreamed of and more and there isn’t anything we would have changed. I would also like to say thank you to both Lydia and Abbi as without them we wouldn’t even have won this amazing competition and really would recomend brides to be to go to the Save the Date wedding fayres as they showcase so many brilliant suppliers and give you some great ideas.”

Abi & Paul’s Competition Prize Included:

We love wedding suppliers who are passionate about what they do. People who really care and who understand how important someone’s wedding day really is. That is why we love Crash Taylor. Not only is he an awesome wedding photographer but also a really lovely guy. Here, we spend 10 minutes with one of the most famous wedding photographers in the UK to find out exactly what YOU want to know:

As a bride to be, what is the process from me booking you through to the wedding day itself and the album arriving?

at the wedding and it definitely makes the bride and groom relax.

I really enjoy the bride and groom coming to the studio and talking me through their wedding day. Wedding photography is my passion and I believe when they come to the studio they will see that. I also help them with the schedule of the day. Almost 90% of the couples that come to see me have their timings wrong so it’s always nice to help out.

How would you describe your style?

Do you offer a pre wedding shoot? I do offer a pre wedding shoot for couples who would like to experience a shoot before the big day. How many weddings do you shoot per year? I only photograph 20-25 wedding adventures a year. This way I dedicate much more time to my clients making sure everything is perfect. What do you think makes you stand out from the other photographers out there? My style, sense of humour and people skills. This is a must when shooting weddings. You have to be polite and friendly to everyone. My people skills are what gets me all my referrals. We have a lot of fun Save The Date | Issue Fifteen

A lot of people say I have a style but for me it’s just the way I shoot. I don’t know any different. How much do you charge and what is included? I have various price options, it just depends what the bride and groom want album wise. All my packages offer my time and talent from bridal prep to first dance. What can I expect from my wedding album with you as my wedding photographer? You can expect a wedding storybook album that will bring back all the love, laughter, emotion, memories of the big day. I take great pride in creating something totally unique for my clients that they will love for a lifetime as well as the generations to come. It’s all about family and friends!

create a rustic WONDERLAND 28

With Gemma Morgan, owner of Wedding of my Dreams

Wedding outdoor ceremonies and receptions may not always be suitable for the great British climate but if you’ve got your heart set on a rustic woodlands style wedding you can always bring the outdoors in with your of choice of decor, flowers and details

Choose your venue

Bring the outdoors in

When looking for a rustic woodland setting think about your venue choice carefully, what does the venue offer you to help create this setting, does it have an outdoor ceremony area? Barn venues are ideal for creating a rustic setting, they may have old beams which can be incorporated in to the decor and often have stunning ceremony areas both inside and out. Tipi’s are another great setting, usually in the middle of the countryside with fire’s blazing to keep guests warm into the evening.

Lead guests to their seats by displaying escort cards on wooden logs. A simple but effective idea, find a couple of logs and saw slots in them to hold your escort cards. Create a rustic woodland display on your tables, setting the scene for your guests. Hessian table runners are perfect for creating this look whether you are having long wooden tables and benches or round guest tables. Save The Date | Issue Fifteen

Display your flowers in wooden bark containers; use a mix of ‘just picked’ style flowers or succulents. Adding pieces of wood and tea lights to the tables creates a woodland look. Scatter bottles with single stem blooms around the venue, or hang from trees in the gardens. Alternatively jams jars finished off with twine or hessian can have the same effect. For a selection of bark and rustic containers, visit

Wooden crates can be used in creative ways for statement pieces. Stack wooden crates up high either side of the entrance and fill with flowers. Or perhaps build them up on top of another to create a rustic table for your candy buffet, dessert table or even just for your wedding cake. Don’t forget your own flowers too. Go for a ‘just picked’ hand tied bouquet it could be finished off with hessian, twine or ribbon and have button holes to match.

Any spare piece of hessian from your table runners can be used as extra details and tied around the napkins. You can also add hessian table runners to your sweetie buffets to continue the rustic feeling through the venue. For place settings why not go on a woodland walk and collect fir cones. Each one of these can be used as a place card holder, just slip a piece of card into the fir cone with your guest’s names on. Traditional chair covers may not fit in with the woodland look, so why not tie a length of hessian around the chairs instead or hang pussy willow hearts from the chairs of special guests and leave as a gift for them. Pussy willow hearts available from: Personalise your day with signs, lead guests around your venue with hand painted signs. Showing them directions to the ceremony, reception, bar and toilets. Hot on the heels of the opening of their brand new showroom earlier this year, Rachel Simpson are proud to launch their new 2013 collection, which will be available nationwide from June 2012. This season sees a return to elegance - silhouettes are simple with intricate detailing and dainty stitch work, reminiscent of shoemaking from a bygone era. The colour palette is soft and warm, with softest metallic suede and pearlised leather giving an antique, worn look. Soft gold and nude tones feature heavily - a stylish progression from traditional ivory.

Another favourite, Agnes is a shoe to fall in love with. Available in both ivory and nude softest kid suede, this little cutie features a delicate two-tone fan detail on both sides, finished with scalloped leather edging and tied up in a simple satin bow.

Further enhancing their reputation for beautiful, wearable shoes, Rachel Simpson’s 2013 collection focuses on mid and low heel heights, demonstrating that elegance can be wearable from day to night. Every shoe is lovingly made by hand with leather linings to ensure ultimate comfort, perfect for dancing the night away.

Elegantly understated, the new collection epitomises the signature style of this growing brand, and is versatile enough to appeal to both the modern and vintage-loving bride. Beautifully handmade in Spain yet affordably priced, this is a collection not to be missed.

TLC Formal Hire in West Bridgford are one of the main players in the East Midlands when it comes to suit hire for a groom and his entourage. Their personal service, attention to detail and value for money means that they meet and deal with lots of grooms on the lead up to their big day. Here, owner of TLC Formal Hire, Joy tells us what it’s like working in such a male dominated industry and how her service stands out from her competitors: What made you decide to start TLC Formal Hire? Having once owned a Bridal Shop a lot of brides were asking if we could also cater for the grooms-men on their big day, on this note we decided to open TLC Formal Hire and haven’t looked back since How many years have you been running? We have been looking after the groom and his grooms-men for around 41/2 years now giving them the ultimate personal service with pre-booked appointments that gives them the time to make a choice for the wedding in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. What kind of suit do you personally like to see a groom sporting on their big day?

I personally don’t think you can beat the formal look for your big day - Black Tails with formal striped trousers teamed with a smart colour co-ordinating waistcoat and tie, we have seen a lot of this recently with the Royal Wedding and Jubilee celebrations. Working in a male dominated industry, you must get some laughs! Do you have any funny stories or any strange requests?! There is always a fantastic atmosphere in the shop when the groom and grooms-men arrive in store for their fittings. There is always lots of banter amongst them especially if its around the time of the stag weekend. We really do get to know the groom as sometimes we can be dealing with the bride and groom up to a year before their wedding. Amongst the strange requests I have had was to put the wrong length trousers in the groom’s bag, making them very short! Apparently, they got some great photo’s! Do you find that most men know what they want before them come to you? Or, do you have to give them a helping hand? The groom usually arrives at the store with the bride who, by the time she gets to us usually has a pretty good idea of colours but not what style suit to have so its a case of trying different ones on the groom. I do advise on the style by finding out what type of wedding they are going for, whether its going to be Save SaveThe TheDate Date||Issue IssueFourteen Fifteen

a formal or more relaxed wedding. I also help with colour matching bridesmaid dresses or the theme of the wedding to waistcoats and cravats. I recently had a bride and groom with a vintage wedding theme where the bridesmaids were in floral dresses. The bride was stuck on what colours to have for the cravats so I suggested a green taken from the fabric and as a twist, I could make the handkerchief out of the bridesmaid dress fabric. They were delighted with the idea. Finally, talk us through what you stock – designers, what is available to hire etc. TLC Formal Hire offers formal lines that include Tailcoats, Prince Edwards, Short Jackets (in various colours and fabrics) Dinner Jackets together with an extensive range of waistcoats and accessories. We have sourced only the best designers and stock a range of Torre jackets and trousers together with a range of Peter Posh waistcoats. 42, Stanhome Square, Tailcoats West Prince Bridgford, Edwards Lounge Suits Nottingham Dinner Suits NG2 7GF Waistcoats Tel: 0115 9233 323 Accessories

you feel fabulous, not what you think you SHOULD wear because it happens to be in the shop or because your mum likes it but it is just not your vision of you...

Who are you and what do you do? We are The White Room bridal boutique based in Sheffield. We aim to be different, memorable and unique. At The White Room, we have created a beautiful, relaxed boutique that has been influenced by the history of Sheffield and offer designers including Claire Pettibone, Cymbeline, Jenny Packham, Sassi Holford and Stephanie Allin who are predominantly found in the South of the UK. We do what we do in our cool and calm space, where we get to know our clients and support their wedding from start to finish with enthusiasm, interest and passion.

To do this we have styled OUR look. We don’t want to be the same as anyone else, we want to shine brightly. We want the same for our brides..... What our brides say: We try to gather as many thoughts and feelings from our brides as possible and share them with ladies who are on their own personal search for their beautiful wedding look. We share feedback on our website and also on our facebook page

The White Room Bridal Boutique, Sheffield has been open a whole 12 months now and as a new business, I have learnt massively what works as a boutique and also what works most importantly for my brides. How would you describe a White Room bride? She is confident and aware of what she wants from her bridal gown and the service that comes with it. She is a little quirky, not afraid to embrace her individuality and this is expressed in the wedding look she chooses. The lines I carry I believe attract a fashion forward bride, and one who wants to shout about her femininity, sophistication and individuality on her wedding day. The girls we are attracting are the real women of the world. Intelligent, funny, those happy to sleep in a tent at Glastonbury but

Baroque Couture 49

by Elaina Evans

The world of bridal is constantly evolving and award winning designer Elaina Evans’ business is no exception. Elaina has been supplying wedding gowns from her Draycott showroom for over 10 years with her signature Baroque Couture range and its sister company, The Dressing Room. Over the years Elaina has built up an enviable reputation for quality and customer service.

Recently Elaina has seen the demand for bespoke wedding gown service increase to unprecedented levels. So, she has decided to withdraw the ‘ready to wear’ designer offer at The Dressing Room in order to focus on her Baroque Couture line. Elaina said. “I have thoroughly enjoyed working with some of the best UK designers and my foray into ready to wear has given me a fresh perspective on the needs and desires of the modern bride. I’m now focusing on my own collections so that I may increase the number of commissions I am able to complete, without compromising my high standards. I have launched three new collections this year, The Signature collection, A Vintage collection and The Ethereal collection, and I am very excited by the response already from the media.” Elaina is expanding her retail space to incorporate new collections. “Having won awards for my costume design, Baroque Vintage was a natural progression for me. Unlike some designer collections, I’ve tried Save The Date | Issue Fifteen

not to limit the designs to a particular decade, instead offering something inspired by the past from every era.” In addition to her gowns, Elaina designs and makes coordinating accessories including jackets, headpieces and veils. However Elaina’s accessories aren’t only reserved for brides. “My accessory collections are also available for wedding guests and mother of the bride. With the death of the fascinator, my ‘Flights of Fancy’ cocktail hats have proven to be really popular this year and I love working on these commissions.” New in at Baroque Couture is the new range of Rachel Simpson shoes, fabulous styles and comfortable enough to see you through the day and to dance your way into the small hours. “We are thrilled to be working with Rachel and so excited to be able to offer our brides such a luxury shoe to wear for their big day” said Elaina. So if you are still looking for the dress of your dreams why not give Elaina a call. As the saying goes, it costs nothing to talk, and you are sure to spend a pleasurable hour in the comfort of her showroom looking at exquisite designs. 07801 694934 All images courtesy of Baroque Couture, 34-36 Station Road Draycott, Derbyshire, DE72 3BD

Finding all those little details to ‘style’ your wedding tables can be tricky, with table centres, nametags, favours, place settings, table runners, chair backs, flowers and more to think about it’s no wonder. Don’t worry too much though! I write a crafty wedding blog, full of simple, creative and personal ideas to help you with just such conundrum. Here’s one of my recent projects, fun favour boxes which also double up as place names…

Cream, green, black and white card, glue, scissors, a ruler, a pencil, a small circular punch and a packet of Jaffa

Cakes (you only need the box but the contents come in handy for snacking if you need a moral boost)!

Step 1 Make a template - open out a Jaffa Cake box and draw around it, sliding it up the page to reduce the length and fit it onto an A4 piece of card then cut out.

Step 2 Draw around your new template 1

Step 3 To create the split colour look,

position the cream card on top of your green and cut to fit the roof, half way down the sides and into a ‘v’ shape at the ends then glue this in place.

Step 4 Using a ruler as a guide crease all the folds of the template to make it easier to stick together later.

Step 7 Punch four circles from the black card then glue half of each one to the campervan to create the wheels. You could also make little red buses in the same way, which would look really cute!

Photography “Beaulieu didn’t just take pictures of our wedding, they captured moments which we will cherish forever. Their natural talent shines through all our images and we can’t stop looking at them. I just love them! We chose Beaulieu for their creative style, talent and their ability to make us feel at ease, it was certainly one of the best decisions we made.”

James & Isabel Bentley

We’re delighted to introduce Beaulieu, a Leicestershire based wedding photography business established by photographer Louise Dunn. Louise photographs with her partner to ensure the different facets of your wedding day are recorded unobtrusively whilst still capturing the most candid moments. Louise explains that “our aim is to fully document the day by not limiting clients to a set amount of hours. We strive to create an honest record through distinctive signature images which are timeless, full of emotion and style”.

Beaulieu’s portfolio is a testament to their ability to achieve this - it is simply beautiful work and not surprisingly has already attracted commissions not only throughout the Midlands but as far afield as St. Andrews, Wales and the Isle of Wight. The photographs featured here are from James and Isabel’s New Years Eve wedding in Lancashire.

Here comes Sybil & Basil

Save The Date | Issue Fifteen

Searching for something different to make you stand out from the crowd and really give your guests something to talk about? Well then, it’s time we introduce you to Sybil and Basil!

A pair of equally gorgeous CW campervans, these two beauties are available for weddings and offer a truly unique and original alternative to make sure you arrive at the church on time!

Sybil, a sage green and cream split screen VW camper van and Basil a baby blue and cream bay window with double sliding doors have been lovingly restored over the years by their proud owners. Chauffeur driven, not only are they different and a great talking point but they also offer fabulous comfort and beautiful interiors.

Trading now for two years, Basil and Sybil are available separately or together (availability dependant) and cost just £300 for one campervan and £500 for both which gives you four hours to enjoy!

Just imagine, on your wedding day, Sybil or Basil could be waiting outside ready to take you to your church or venue, complete with ribbons and bows to co-ordinate with your theme and an immaculately dressed chauffeur. Owner, Adele, says “They are such a great alternative to the other methods of wedding transportation out there today. People just fall in love with them both when they see them and we often get complete strangers waving to us, especially when Sybil and Basil are in convoy. Our brides love it as it makes them feel so special”.

So, if you fancy arriving at your wedding in a completely unique, retro fashion then get in touch with Sybil and Basil. They would love to be a part of your big day!

Zania Red Carpet Lux A romantic, carefree hairstyle for your wedding day will accentuate your best features and can be worn almost any wedding dress style. Insert a fresh flower just above the ear for a fresh look. 1

The Key to the look is to have hair in fantastic condition.

Section hair off in to four sections ñ two at the back of your head and two at the sides.

Abigail Curd Classic Chignon The word chignon {shee-nyawn} comes from the French phrase ìchignon du cou,î which means nape of the neck and r efers to a large, smooth twist, roll, or knot of hair, worn by women at the nape of the neck or the back of the head. The chignon completes any gown, is as perfect for the chic classic bridal look of the romantic bride. To me the Chignon is both elegantly reserved and wonderfully sexy at the same time.

Blowdry hair with a large round brush, lifting hair up as you dry.

After each section is blowdryed pin curl hair back up and pin allowing the hair to cool in a roll.

Secure hair in a low ponytail.

Twist hair round forefinger, holding ends of ponytail in other hand and taking tails over; not under.

Secure from top using a large hairgrip and took ends in.

Repet process all over and allow the hair to cool for 15 minutes

Unpin hair and shake the style out.

Dry hair smooth and create movement and bounce.

Sian Wczasek Relaxed Curled Chignon This relax updo shows a chignon of to the side of the base of the neck with loose curls that are delicately curled to show off the back of your wedding gown. Worn with or without a fringe, this favorite classic hairstyle for years allows a bride to easily insert a veil for some added aisle drama. 1

Hair is curled using Hot tongs and pinned to allow to cool in shape.

Once hair has been allowed to cool, release all hair and section zones off. Side zones, top and back zones.

Work on the back zone first, build up the curls in the desired area of the chignon and grip in to place.

Take the top zone and add backcombing in the krown area to add height and shape. Take the section of hair back and grip into the chignon thatís already been created. Then take side zones back and grip into the chignon. Leave and loose hair out to soften around the face.
