othing screams Spring like cherry blossom, blue skies and all the country garden feels. Niamh & Alex created the most beautiful Spring like day along with the support of the most amazing wedding suppliers – all captured perfectly by talented photographers, The Georges. “We would best describe the look we were going for as ‘English Garden Party’, we didn’t want the day to look too themed but we definitely wanted a coherent style and colour palette running through the day. We kept to neutral, soft colours; lots of white, varying greens, pale greys and touches of gold. The traditional pole tent marquee, lawn games, props, elderflower drinks and Pimms jelly all helped to tie the overall feel together. We used lots of fairy lights and festoon lights both in the garden and marquee, so the garden party look continued into the evening. ” – Niamh & Alex With thanks to The Georges Photography (www.thegeorges.co)

ave you heard of Aswarby Rectory? If you have then you’ll know it’s possibly one of the most stylish, stripped back and beautiful wedding venues you’ll come across. And if not, you need to go. It’s seriously impressive from the moment you arrive and the lovely husband and wife team behind this gorgeous wedding venue are two of the nicest people you could wish to meet. Here we chat with one half of that dynamic super team, Donna who tells us their lovely, inspiring story; “Launching a wedding venue was something we used to talk about when we had lazy weekends, no children and spent lots of our time pondering on the future and what it may have in store for us. All this time later and here we are. We stumbled across this very special place in the Summer of

14

2016 and back then it was a crumbling old house and derelict coach house in need of some love. We took a chance, sold everything we had, left our jobs within the design industry and went for it, aiming to restore the house back to what it should be but with a clean and simple aesthetic that just makes the most beautiful backdrop. We hoped to be ready to launch early in 2019 but with a few early bookings we actually started late Summer of 2018. Since then we have held some of the most beautiful weddings and met some of the most amazing, creative suppliers. We’ve also learnt so, so much. One of our favourite times at the house is Spring and early Summer, when the gardens start to show signs of life again and the house is bathed in light. It seems like every month brings with it welcome changes and it’s just so lovely at these times to welcome people here and know that it plays such a special part in their day. This wedding was particularly special to us as Nichole and Deep’s day was full of thoughtful details that merged their cultures and their families. The flowers were seasonal and beautiful and filled the house with the most beautiful scent and the had the most amazing photographer to capture everything for them too.” Images by Becky Goddard Photography. utumnal colours inspired the styling for the Outdoor Wedding Showcase at Cattows Farm with Sami Tipi back in October.

Stylist, Tara Knott formerly Tickety Boo Events says "The concept was based on the changing seasons from a warm Summer to a cool Autumn and I wanted to use a colour palette that reflected the beauty of this but could also inspire couples who were planning a wedding at a different time of year. The sailcloth backdrop gives so much freedom to the choice of colour, and with so much space to play with I created streams of rag bunting which gave a wow to the overall space whilst also looking stylish. This lowered the ceiling of the sailcloth and made it feel more intimate. I wanted to include different materials and worked with Allie from Polly and Me on a concept for the signage and stationery. Faux leather, copper piping and arched wood were all used to showcase something a little different for the table plan, seating and cake areas.  My styling always includes posing stations or points of interest that guests can either photograph or be photographed with. I made a colourful backdrop of different sized and shaped wood painted in the four main colours we used. This worked perfectly with the floral installations created by the flower patch. The cake sat on a peacock

chair draped with material which gave an elegant feel to the space. As always, Nat from Ruby Lou's didn’t stop at one cake, she created a whole area filled with treats and baked goods. All to compliment the styling and colours we had chosen. The mix of trestle and round style tables were all clothed with the same deep peach runners and rusty linen napkins. The idea of using such bold colours can be daunting but I had confidence in how it would look together. Coloured candles (another of my signature style pieces) in ochre, peach and pink all ensured the tables looked fun and interesting, My style is eclectic and I wanted to make sure that the top table worked with the rest of the room but was a little special. I used black piping across the top of the table which Maria, from the flower patch dressed with fresh and dried florals. A light mustard tablecloth and the same rusty napkins created the look I had wanted. With flowers at the base of the area too. It was great to work with so many suppliers on this one. I love to create different style concepts and see it all come together and how all of our compliments each other."

et within 100 acres of private landscaped gardens and open parkland in rural Staffordshire, Alrewas Hayes is a historical country estate where exceptional event experiences happen and a place to escape from the everyday. Owner Bonnie Williams shares her predictions on what she believes we can expect to see throughout 2020 when it comes to country estate weddings.

Vegan Vibes

As more people become conscious of their food choices, the trend towards vegetarianism and veganism is definitely not short-lived. Couples need to accommodate guests’ dietary preferences in an inventive, tasty and aesthetically pleasing way which is why we offer couples full vegan menus that include creative canapÊs, meat-free main and delicious dairy-free desserts.

Informal and Relaxed

We are seeing increased requests for long, banqueting tables covered with low-level flower arrangements and interactive feasting – from grazing tables, sharing-inspired menus, carve at the table options and cheese and dessert boards – where everyone can help themselves, so that guests can socialise easily; the setting becomes much less formal and more relaxed but still very special.

Let me Entertain you

Entertainment is no longer just for the drinks reception and the evening party, but rather couples are starting to find unique ways of entertaining guests – from unusual musicians to caricature artists – and this is playing a bigger role in the overall wedding day vibe. Food and drink as entertainment is also on the rise – from interactive food to the possibility of adding some fun to your fizz with immersive cocktail bars for everyone to enjoy.

Put on a Show

Combine the heritage of a country estate venue with the latest tech by turning your wedding day into a full production. Couples are looking for something different, interesting and totally bespoke to them in 2020. With the choice of world-class lighting, sound and staging systems, image mapping, pyro waterfalls (indoor fireworks) and even the option of live streaming the day, the possibilities are endless when it comes to state-of-the art production at Alrewas Hayes.

Personal Statements

From large floral arches and whimsical aisle runners, to smoke bombs in the grounds and balloon displays, as well as environmentally friendly indoor fireworks, we are increasingly seeing individuality and personality come further and further to the fore.

Colour Palette

Alrewas Hayes is offering £1500 off the total cost of a wedding booked to take place on any remaining 2020 dates. Offer subject to availability. Terms and conditions apply. GET IN TOUCH

he Walled Garden is a real favourite of ours. Such a beautiful venue with the most beautiful English walled garden which, particularly in Spring and Summer is bursting with colour. The team over at the Walled Garden are fabulous too – their dedication to their job and passion for weddings is undeniable and, along with their gardener, they work tirelessly to ensure all weddings which take place there exceed all expectations. Charity and Paul’s big day was no exception. In this feature, Charity talks all about her big day and what made her fall in love with the Walled Garden; “We got married on 31st May 2019. It was just after Paul’s 30th birthday and we hoped the weather would be perfect (which it was!). The Walled Garden was the most beautiful venue we looked at by far. We wanted a relaxed day, we wanted everyone to be really chilled and the Walled Garden definitely catered for that. Lots of gorgeous areas without it being too spaced out. different ideas too whereas a lot of venues were very stuck in their ways. An outdoor wedding was a dream for me and they managed to make it a reality. Our style was a mix up of romantic, modern and casual. A lot of what we did we purchased or was made by me or family members. We wanted it to be a really personal day with our touch on everything. A family friend made our gorgeous table plan and my friend’s uncle made our doughnut wall which was the star of the evening!! My mum was amazing through it all and sorted all our greenery that we had in the ceiling of the marquee and around the pagoda in the garden, it looked really beautiful. We were so happy to have the help from everyone couldn’t have done it without them! My best memory was just as the evening guests were arriving, the sun was shining, everyone had their sunnies on and a glass in hand. We had blankets on the grass so people were chilling listening to our amazing singer Jaque Seviour doing his thing. I remember looking around with Paul taking it all in and thinking, this is a moment of perfection!! My advice to future brides and grooms would be to not get sucked into all the madness of weddings! Figure out what it is you’re wanting, style wise and budget and try not to sway too far away from it. Don’t stress over little things, people won’t even notice the things you forgot or didn’t go exactly to plan. And finally, take moments throughout the day to just step back and take it all in, everyone says it but it really does completely fly by! A little tip … have a savoury snack table, ours went down a treat!!” Photography courtesy of www.peterhugophotography.com GET IN TOUCH www.walledgardennottingham.co.uk e: admin@walledgardennottingham.co.uk | t: 0115 925 7062 Old Drive, Wollaton Rd, Beeston, Nottingham NG9 3DA Photography Credits: www.peterhugophotography.com

What do you feel makes you stand out? When working on any wedding, I like to draw my inspiration from the seasons going on around me. Using locally grown foliage alongside beautiful blooms helps to create a natural look to my creations and adds lovely unique details. My style is not traditional, but a bit more relaxed and informal to suit the modern bride. Describe a typical day for you when you’re busy working... The few days running up to a wedding involves early starts, a trip to the flower market to collect the pre-ordered blooms, conditioning the flowers carefully to ensure they are at the right stage for the wedding day. Listening to the radio (and singing along too), creating the beautiful creations for the wedding. Depending on how much work there is, I will start at 7-8am and finish at 5-9pm. On the morning of the wedding all the arrangements will have their final checks, the bouquets and buttonholes will be finished and safely packed up in tissue paper to be delivered to the bride, groom and venue. The delivery and set up at the venue is my favourite bit, as you can see the couples plans all coming together. It's very exciting to be part of this special moment before the day’s events unfold. How do people get in touch with you? I work from a workshop, so an initial phone call or email is the best way to get the ball rolling. Then I will normally suggest meeting up for a consultation. This is a really important part of the planning, where we discuss all your ideas, colour schemes and favourite flowers. This enables me to create a bespoke service for every one of my clients.

Sourcing

The range of diamonds were carefully sourced in order to create a perfectly matching pair of earrings with the utmost importance in quality. Each stones proportions were scrutinized to form the most precise CAD designs before going to casting. This modern design process allows the best possible results in accuracyhousing diamonds and gemstones to their exact measurements.

Lastly, the diamonds were all set under microscope. This is our goldsmiths most vital tool- the ability to see beyond the naked eye and set stones in the most secure and beautiful way.

Assembly Completion Such confidence is performed in our workshop that we guarantee our manufacture for life. The end result was even more spectacular than we could have anticipated and we cannot wait for our customer to enjoy wearing them on her big day and many more special occasions. Each 18ct white gold component were then taken through a step-by-step process of polishing and assembling. Our goldsmith has a keen eye for finishing the metal and this enables the best results.

W W W.

It’s clear to see the total love for their craft when they speak so avidly about how they transform their customers ideas into a reality. And what an amazing and unique way to change an old piece of jewellery into something totally new and bespoke. Such a talented bunch!

Wildly Romantic Woodland W E DDI NG IDEA S FOR SPRING

F

or couples who adore the great outdoors and love the idea of spending their special day surrounded by wildlife and nature, a woodland wedding may be the perfect fit for you! It offers a blank canvas setting where you can really scribe your love story, so we’re offering some of our favourite spring-inspired woodland wedding ideas that will enchant you and your guests…

rebeccacarpenterphotography.com

Fabulous Florals Your flowers will have a huge impact on the overall vibe of your woodland wedding, so make sure you discuss your theme and venue with your florist. From your bridal bouquet to floral hoops for your ‘maids, ceremony archways or table decorations, your flowers should work in harmony with your woodland setting so we suggest opting for blooms that are natural, trailing and utterly gorgeous!

Aisle Style A woodland wedding lends itself beautifully to a bohemian vibe, so you may prefer to opt for a light, flowing gown with lace details or floral appliqué – the options are endless! When you go wedding dress shopping, let your bridal boutique know the vibe you’re going for and they will be able to provide you with some seriously gorgeous options to try on! We also think a flower crown is a must-have for any bride getting wed in the woodland – you’ll find plenty of talented florists over on our Cream of the Crop Wedding Directory if you’re in need of some inspo. Details & Décor A woodland wedding wouldn’t be complete without signage and it can be used in so many ways, whether that is to direct guests around your venue, indicate that it’s an unplugged ceremony or simply to display a romantic quote. We also love the idea of filling wooden crates with confetti cones and petals for your guests to help themselves to ahead of the ceremony – with the backdrop of the trees, you can just imagine how epic that confetti shot is going to be! If you’re worried about walking down the aisle in heels, we suggest lining the length of the ‘aisle’ with rugs that complement your spring wedding theme.

Tablescape Goals Your wedding tables offer you the chance to get super creative with your woodland wedding. We suggest hiring long wooden trestle tables with benches to set the scene, then you can go all out with your wedding décor. We love the idea of using moss or foliage garlands to line your wedding tables, while working in lots of lovely, ‘handpicked from the garden’ flowers. Tree slices make fabulous place settings, and you can even use smaller version with the name of each guest carved on as escort cards and favours. If you want to keep your centrepieces simple but sweet, collect an array of jars and bottles and fill them with your favourite flowers. For your tableware, add a touch of boho luxe to your woodland wedding by opting for subtly tinted glass goblets and charger plates in pretty pastel hues – the perfect nod to spring!

HOW TO

CHOOSE THE PERFECT DRESSES F O R YO U R BRIDESMAIDS WEDDING GOSSIP

F

rom the very moment you bag that bit of bling on your finger, we can imagine you were beyond excited to ask your best girls to be your bridesmaids! But now you’ve picked out your #BrideTribe, it’s also time to choose their aisle style. Whether you’ve got just a handful of bridesmaids or more than 10 ‘maids accompanying you down the aisle, shopping for their dresses is always going to be a difficult task. Your squad will be all different shapes, sizes and styles, so you need to make sure you choose a dress that everyone feels comfortable in. Brush up on some of our top tips for bridesmaid dress shopping…

56

W W W.

Tip One

Megan Duffield Photography

If you’re offering your best gals complete freedom when picking out their bridesmaid dresses, we suggest that you offer them a few pointers to limit the admin and stress! For instance, if you’re going for a particular colour palette, let your ‘maids know a selection of shades that you’d be happy for them to wear – this is particularly helpful if they’re rocking mismatched gowns.

Tip Two

If you love the idea of mismatched bridesmaid dresses, it’s important to keep one element of each gown the same. Whether that’s the neckline, colour palette, hem length or material – this will ensure the dresses look coordinated.

Tip Three

S AV E

THE

DAT E

Grab your girls and make a fun day out of it! Start the day with bubbles or prosecco (a great ice-breaker if some of your bridesmaids don’t know each other) and then head out shopping. Let your ‘maids try on as many dresses as their hearts desire and use it as an excuse for a girly day out.

Tip Four

Consider the season that you’re saying, ‘I Do’. For spring and summer weddings, we adore pretty pastel palettes, flower-adorned gowns and even floral hoops instead of bridesmaid bouquets. For winter weddings, your girls could don knitted shawls, faux fur shrugs or cute cardigans.

Tip Five

Charlotte Wise Photography

Organise a day when your bridesmaids can try on the dresses together ahead of your wedding so you can make sure everyone is happy, confident and excited to be stood by your side on your special day.

Tip Six

Don’t forget about those all-important finishing touches – accessories, shoes, jewellery, hairstyles and make-up! Think about whether you want your bridesmaids to have the same hairstyles and accessories, or would you rather they decided on their own? Now you’ve got your bridesmaids shopping covered, head over to www.savethedatemagazine.co.uk where you’ll find endless inspiration waiting for you… Charlotte Wise Photography W W W.

ICONIC BRIDE

THE MOST COMMON WEDDING DRESS SHOPPING WORRIES (A N D H OW TO OV E RCO M E T H E M )

L

et’s talk about wedding dress shopping, it’s one of the most exciting parts of wedding planning but it can also be one of the most daunting, with many brides suffering from those all-too common wedding dress shopping worries. We’re chatting to Angela of Iconic Bride, a super stylish bridal studio in Sherwood Forest, all about any anxieties you may be experiencing when it comes to finding the perfect gown, and how you can overcome them…

60

W W W.

Social Media Are you feeling stressed before you’ve even started to think about wedding dress shopping, let alone set foot into the studio? Then it’s time to turn off your phone and step away from the social media! Whether that’s Instagram or Pinterest, if you spend hours perusing through various platforms over filtered models, you’re guaranteed to find yourself feeling a bit rubbish. Rather than using it as something to aim for, use your social media accounts for research and inspiration. You don’t need to compare yourself to anybody!

Sample Sizes

Self Love

Here at Iconic Bride, we love meeting all of our wonderful brides-to-be, and every woman that walks through the door is completely and utterly unique. We stock a fabulous selection of sample sizes to ensure you find a dress that you feel incredible in. When you book your appointment, we’ll have a natter about what to expect from your time at Iconic Bride and the style of dress that you’re looking for. We’ll also offer our expertise and guidance to ensure the experience is one you’ll enjoy!

This is our most important tip for overcoming common wedding dress shopping worries – love yourself! Brides are their own worst critics and it can be all too easy to find faults about how you look, especially when you’re staring in the mirror trying on wedding dresses for the afternoon. Be kind to yourself and remember how gorgeous you are and let yourself enjoy every second of wedding dress shopping.”

Bridal Tribe We recommend bringing just two to three friends or family members along to your appointment at Iconic Bride. Many brides want to bring along a whole group of people, but you’ll find yourself inundated with opinions, comments and ideas, and it can quickly become overwhelming. You may also feel pressured to pick out a dress that someone else likes, rather than a gown that you have your heart set on. You wear what you want to on your wedding day, so consider who you are planning on bringing along.

W W W.

Angela explains, “Choosing a wedding dress isn't like getting up in the morning and choosing which outfit to wear for the day. It's not a skill we have because its’ a completely different shopping experience. Use that to park the nerves and have fun trying on style until you find your one.” Iconic Bride have a swoon-worthy selection of bridal designers gracing the rails at their chic studio, so drop the team a message and book your appointment.

You will need to discuss the rules for wedding confetti with your venue, but environmentally friendly options include flower petals, leaves or even herbs – the perfect choice if you want a rustic, Italian-esque vibe!

W W W.

Weddi ng F avou r s

Let your guests know you’re embracing the eco-friendly approach and offer favours that can be planted, such as a small packet of seeds or even a small succulent. Tiny potted plants can also be used to decorate your wedding tables and used as place settings, simply tie a name tag (made out of recycled paper) to each pot. You could also spoil your guests with edible favours to avoid any wastage – we know all too well that many favours get left behind. Delicious cookies or donuts with names on can be used as wedding favours, escort cards and even a mini dessert!

G o L oc al

If you’re getting wed further afield, chances are your guests and suppliers will be contributing to the carbon footprint. If you can, try to source suppliers who are local to your venue to decrease travel time and emissions. It’s also a lovely gesture to support local businesses, and we’re sure your venue will be able to recommend a selection of incredible professionals. When it comes to choosing your caterers, research different companies to see if any use farm to table produce so it’s locally sourced and deliciously fresh! You’ll find there is less plastic packaging, less transportation and less wastage!

We love the idea of allocating one glass to each guest to use throughout the whole evening. You could make it a fun part of your wedding day with a designated table decorated with signage and colourful glassware to choose from. Not only will it mean you can limit the amount of glassware you need to hire in, it will save on washing up and reusing!

Con si de r yo u r Décor

It’s often the small things that make a difference, such as your details and décor. Consider how you style your wedding and how it will impact on the environment. For instance, if you’re having a hydration station make sure you swap plastic straws for paper straws. When designing your wedding centrepieces, ask your florist to avoid using floral foam, which is not biodegradable and is often full of toxic chemicals. If you want to think about how you can use your wedding flowers after your celebration, why not donate them to nursing homes or local hospitals?
