What’s your shape? Choosing ‘the one’, aka the dress, is one of the most important decisions a bride-to-be will make for her big day, and often one of the most stressful ones too! But, knowing which dress shape suits your body type should have brides well on their way to a perfect silhouette.

If you are… Hourglass

An hourglass figure is one where the bust and hips are perfectly balanced with a very defined waist.

A slim or athletic figure has very few curves and an undefined waist.

A bride with this body shape should pick a dress that really accentuates her waist, showing off her best asset. Show off your figure and be proud! Sweetheart necklines make the most of a balanced bust area and waist detail, such as a belt or flower, draws the eye and really emphasises a narrow waist. A mermaid style dress or dropped waist skims gorgeous hips.

A sheath or fitted style dress will show off your slender shape and you are lucky that you can carry off this style of dress effortlessly. If you are in search of fabulous curves, choose a ball gown style with a fitted bodice and a full skirt. The fitted bodice will pull you in in all the right places and create the illusion of curves.

The apple figure is often quite voluptuous with full bust and tummy area and thin legs.

Lucy Goodwin, founder of the successful Beauty Temple in Nottingham and owner of the Owl House Spa has a reputation for understanding the needs of her clients and therefore with this brand new project, she has left no stone unturned. From the cute owl locker keys to the vintage tea which welcomes you on your arrival, Lucy and her team make you feel like a VIP from the moment you step through the door. And myself and Abbi were lucky enough to experience it for ourselves... Having arrived and registered, we relaxed with our tea and retro sweets for a little while before being taken through

Arriving at the Owl House Spa is like pulling up at a secret hideaway amidst beautiful Derbyshire countryside. The cotswold stone underfoot, the amazing sound of sheer silence all around and the barn conversion spa which lies ahead all combine to make you feel immediately relaxed and ready for a day of pure indulgence and pampering.

to the 'Power Room' where vintage furniture combines with gorgeous rain showers. Having changed into our fluffy robes and slippers, we took a seat outside in the courtyard and as we soaked up the idyllic surroundings, lunch arrived. Served in a gorgeous wicker picnic basket (Lucy really is the queen of attention to detail), we enjoyed sandwiches and fruit and prepared ourselves for a dip in the hot tub. Positioned within the courtyard in the open air, this fabulous pool of warm bubbles is the perfect place for a gaggle of hens.

Having put the world to rights whilst enjoying the soothing waters of the hot tub, it was time for our treatment - the English Rose Ritual. Beginning with a dual 'Pigs in mud' experience, we sat within a two seater chamber and scrubbed beautifully smelling exfoliators into our skin before allowing the steam to work its magic. After twenty minutes of relaxing and exfoliating, water poured down from the ceiling of the chamber, leaving our skin feeling silky smooth. Having dried off, we were then met by our lovely therapists who took us through to yet another beautifully furnished treatment room ready for

our massage to begin. With soothing background music playing, lying on lavender infused towels and with the lights dimmed, we were given a full body massage for 90 blissful minutes. WOW is the only word to describe this experience. Just WOW. The best spa treatment either of us have ever experienced - without a doubt. Having revived ourselves (I can honestly say I have never felt so relaxed) we headed to the Powder Room for an invigorating shower and back to normality. Crunching back to the car along the Cotswold stone, I looked back at the Owl House Spa in amazement. Only this time last year this building was an old disused cow shed and now look at what Lucy and her fabulous team have achieved. An incredible sanctuary and the perfect place for a celebration, I'm already planning my next trip to the fabulous Owl House Spa.

Everyone loves a bit of vintage, simply gorgeous and romantic, using amnesia and vandella Roses, with peonies, Bombastic spray roses and complimented with the silver foliage of eucalyptus and senecio, bound with lace and pearls.

High on trend is the English garden cottage flowers. The scent from Roses, Phlox, Sweet peas, hydrangeas and delphiniums, complimented with herbs such as Rosemary, mint and thyme. Just gorgeous.

real wedding LECKIE & JOHN

Leckie and John married on Saturday 23rd July in their home village of Bulcote near Burton Joyce in Nottinghamshire. With Leckie jointly running the amazing stationery company, Pocket Typewriter with her brother Jack, we always knew that this wedding was going to be creative with a capital C and we could not wait to share the gorgeous big day with you, our lovely readers. So, here is the beautiful bride, Leckie to tell you more about her big day: "We wanted a village wedding, in my home village so that all our family and friends could be there and celebrate with us so the Village Hall was perfect as it was walking distance from my parents home (where we had our drinks reception and the church). Also it had sentimental meaning as mum and dad had their reception there too! What was it like choosing your dress and had you always had your heart set on that style? I knew I wanted something sleek, simple and classic. When I saw the dress I fell in love and never looked at another! It was from a designer called Clinton Lotter. My shoes were stonking heels from Christian Louboutin (well it was my wedding day, you've got to treat yourself!) Talk us through the theme and decor of the wedding. Well as we had our wedding in a village, we had a village wedding theme (with a quirky twist!) We had country flowers; hydrangeas, stock, sweet pea (some of which my new mother-in-law grew herself). My bridesmaids were in dresses from French Connection that we then tweaked and altered to suit each of the girl’s own style. I wanted everyone to feel completely comfortable in what they were wearing. I wanted them to feel special and as you can see they all looked fab! The ushers were in a mix of kilts and pale grey suits and each had a vintage bike decorated with a flag and streamers. They cycled up to the church from my parent’s house (although John had to meet them all a bit further down as he obviously was not allowed to see me before the wedding)…from what I hear they caused quite a stir! We had a bag piper welcoming all the guests to the village church and then once everyone was seated a Jazz/Blues singer performed (Mellow Baku). Our wedding car was an old VW camper which was great as it meant all the bridesmaids could fit in (I had 6 so no other car would have been better). My Grandad married us, which was really special to both John and I and 22

made the service extra personal. We made our own confetti from dried rose petals that we handed out in big wicker baskets (country village style). We then went onto my parent’s house for the drinks reception, we had the ushers cycling and leading the way for all our guests to follow. Mum had done a wonderful job in the garden with handmade cushions on all the little seating areas. We served pimms and champagne with very tasty canapés. The sun was shining so we were over the moon. When all the guests had arrived the piper then lead John and I down from the top of the garden (where we were having our photos) to take part in a traditional Gallic ceremony which amounted to me, John and the piper drinking a third of a glass of whiskey and giving him permission to finish piping! Everyone loved it (especially John as he is partial to a whiskey or two ...) We also had the pleasure of listening to Mellow Baku, who really set a great tone for the drinks in the garden. Following the drinks reception we headed over to the village hall for our lunch, where we served a tapas style sharing meal. We wanted to do this as we see a wedding as the joining of two families and we wanted to celebrate this and encourage everyone to chat and share. It worked a treat and everyone got on like a house on fire! We had the hall lined so that it was like a marquee inside with lanterns hanging from the ceiling.

with personalised labels! We had personalised labels on the soaps, hand creams and water bottles, toilet signs, bunting, cushions, aprons…. We designed and created a bar in the back room of the village hall with a music corner for everyone to have a little jam! We had a mad hatter cake table and our wedding cake was based on a pocket typewriter design and made by Julie from Vintage and Cake. It looked fab and tasted amazing! Jade and Emma (from JadeAlana Photography) were amazing throughout the day and evening, where they set up a photo booth with props so everyone could have a silly photo! The band were phenomenal! They were called Benny Lee and the Whistle Stop Five and they are a jive band! They sing classic and modern songs with a jive vibe! The dance floor was full from the moment they got on stage to the moment they left (after quite a few encores!) It was the most amazing day ever!!!! And so special as I wasn’t only marrying the man of my dreams but also our two wonderful families were joining!!!"

The Master Chocolatier - Taeke Ooterwoud Born in Holland, Taeke began Choc Art 14 years ago. A passionate chocolatier, Taeke started by developing his chocolate skills and embarking on various chocolate school courses in Germany and Belgium perfecting his sculptures and specialist chocolate skills. Abbi caught up with Taeke at his home in Matlock to find out more... So, Taeke, what do you feel makes your cakes so unique? The chocolate is the most unique factor; they are not sponge or butter icing but ‘chocolate truffle torte’. For anyone who has not tried this, it is a moist chocolate texture that simply melts in your mouth. The cakes are available in a variety of flavours, milk, dark and white being the main. Liqueurs, caramel and generally whatever people want can also be added. What has been your most challenging cake request to date? The Empire State Building! Such a tall building, this was a very heavy and tall sculpture. I really enjoyed the challenge though. The chocolate wraps which are one of my most popular cake requests are also a challenge. Even the pillars which provide the support for the cake are made from chocolate! The most challenging part of my job is not the making of the cakes but the transporting of the cakes. They are so heavy and living on a steep hill, makes transporting them very hard on occasions, especially in the winter weather. I’ve even had to use a sledge on a couple of occasions! Such extravagant and intricate sculptures, I asked Taeke how people cut these cakes?! I deliver each cake in person and provide the recipient, whether it’s the venue or end customer with instructions on how to cut the cake, it’s fairly easy actually. There is also written instructions with the cake too. Where do you find your inspiration for such masterpieces? From travelling to various destinations, on holidays and from people themselves. People often approach me with an idea that we design and develop together. I then prepare a sketch and develop the chocolate sculpture or cake from then onwards. What are your three loves in life? Music, Espresso’s and of course, Chocolate! So if you want a cake that is the talking point of your big day, get in touch with Taeke at Choc Art. I was lucky enough to have Bijou Woo design my own wedding stationery for my big day and have to say just how fabulous Shari and her design skills are. So, I caught up with Shari to chat about Bijou Woo and all things pretty and personalised .... 48

So, Shari, what's the story behind Bijou Woo? Bijou Woo started around 6 years ago after I was asked to design a friend's wedding stationery. From this one design I was then asked to design a number of other friends' invitation artwork and I soon realised that there was quite a market in this area and that I really enjoyed working with the brides and the creative process of the designs. So, I decided to get a website together and see if anyone wanted to buy the designs that I was creating. How would you describe Bijou Woo's style? I aim to provide an affordable, but adaptable design service that means the client gets exactly what they desire and need for their most important day. I am open to new ideas, formats and different styles of working and I love chatting to my brides and hearing what ideas they have, however imaginative or unusual they are. As for my style, I think that a lot of my ideas are affected by my surroundings, I love the outdoors, colour and patterns... the bigger, prettier or brighter, the better. I am also influenced by retro and vintage styles. As I am now living in New Zealand I think that the outside influence is very much more apparent, bright wide open spaces, tropical plants, sunshine... how can I not be influenced by the paradise that is outside my window. I hope to convey my ethusisam and love for all things design based in my creations. What are your plans for Bijou Woo? Bijou Woo has now developed into a family run business with my sister Kelly sending out the deliveries along with her three young children who happily help with the packing and trips to the post office. I want to continue to provide a personal one to one relationship with my clients, forming a bond that they enjoy and feel confident in. Ultimately my aim is to spread the Bijou Woo love and happiness, making my brides and grooms smile from ear to ear. Music makes the world go round - so they say - so why shouldn’t it help to make your big day go round too? Now I know the term ‘wedding music’ might conjure up an image of the film The Wedding Singer, but we aren’t talking about a badly dressed 80s throwback here, we’re thinking more along the lines of adding a modern twist and thinking outside the box, whether it be during your ceremony, drinks reception, meal or to bust some moves to on the dance floor. Many couples are looking for something a bit more out there that will leave their family and friends with an open jaw for weeks to come. For a contemporary twist think about an electric violinist, a saxophonist, or an amazing rock band. Be inspired by the acts that have graced the stage of Britain’s Got Talent or the X Factor.
