Savannah Pastors Uniting To Stand To SCMPD Chief To Present at Hungry Club Forum Series Eradicate Homicides and Gun Violence

Rev. Da’Henri Thurmond, Pastor of St. Paul C.M.E. Church invites ALL Pastors of the community and the public to a meeting concerning the murders and violence in Savannah.

The Savannah Alliance of Pastors are an united group of more than 30 pastors who lead and live in the Savannah Community. They are united to stand against and eradicate homicides and senseless gun

violence in our city. “We are called by God to love and we love our city. We care for the future of youth and young adults and are seeking a ‘beloved community’.” A press conference

was held in Ellis Square, Tuesday, November 14, 2017 to ask ALL pastors in this community to join with the 30 pastors as they seek solutions that will reduce murder, increase love and share hope for our future.

The meeting will be on Tuesday, November 21 at 4:00 pm at the Coastal Georgia Center, 305 Fahm Street.

Chatham County Democratic Committee 2017 Award Recipients Announced

The Chatham County Democratic Committee has announced the recipients of the 2017 Chatham County Democratic Awards. The 2017 honorees are: Gwendolyn Fortson Waring - 2017 Toby Buttimer Award, for exceptional dedication to service and activism at the grassroots level. Gwendolyn has been an attorney since 1992, and supports the Ralph M. Gilbert Civil Rights Museum, Telfair Museum, Historic Savannah Foundation, and Georgia Alliance of African American Attorneys. Sam Simpson - 2017 Joan and Tony Mathews Yellow Dog Democrat Award, for staunch loyalty to the Party and its principles. Sam served as an inspector for the Chatham County Department of Health for 34 years, and

a dedicated member of the CCDC. Ernestine Jones - 2017 Arthur Gignilliat Public Service Award, for an elected official who has effectively served the community with integrity. Ernestine was a teacher for 31 years. She has served on the Chatham County Board of Elections, Economic Opportunity Authority Policy Council, and League of Women Voters. James Scott - 2017 Edna Branch Jackson Service Award, for demonstrating principles and practices of good leadership by living the example. James is a Savannah flooring contractor. He is a former Vice Chair of the CCDC, and past President of the Young Democrats of Chatham County. “It’s a great privilege to be able to recognize the

achievements of our Members, Volunteers and Elected Officials,” said Alldrein P. Murray, Chair of the Chatham County Democratic Committee. “All year long our volunteers work to make the Chatham County Democratic Party stronger by their loyal dedication actively promoting and demonstrating the Democratic Party Principles while serving the community. Once a year we come together to recognize these efforts, and honor those who exemplify the Democratic Party ideals. I hope to see Democrats from all over come and celebrate our award recipients with us on November 18, 2017.” This year ’s Awards Dinner Chair is Tawana Garrett, CCDC 4th Vice Chair of Fundraising. The Honorary Co-Chairs are

Murem Sharpe, Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of the Georgia WIN List, and Barbara Magwood, Third Vice President of the Savannah branch NAACP. The event Co-Hosts are Comia Flynn of Flynn Style and Alicia Scott of Introspect Consulting Group. The Keynote Speaker will be Georgia State Representative Stacey Evans, who is currently seeking the Democratic nomination for Georgia Governor. Other speakers include Otha Thornton, seeking the Democratic nomination for Georgia’s State School Superintendent, and Cindy Zeldin, seeking the Democratic nomination for Georgia’s Insurance Commissioner. Savannah-Chatham County Metropolitan Police Department (SCMPD) Chief Joseph H. “Jack” Lumpkin will make the keynote presentation at the Hungry Club Forum of Savannah, Inc.’s (HCFS) monthly Signature Roundtable and Open Forum, on Saturday, November 18, 2017, at 9:30 AM. The breakfast forum will be held at the WBS YMCA, located at 1110 May Street, near W. Gwinnett Street. The informal format will allow Chief Lumpkin to present his program for moving the Savannah-Chatham County area in the area of public safety. Attendees will get to generate

dialogue, ask questions and offer progressive thoughts and ideas. The HCFS is interested in hearing how it may assist in making our community a safer place in which to live. Gwendolyn A. Lowe, Owner, NxLevel Business Services, LLC is this month’s HCFS Co-Sponsor. Chief Lumpkin joined the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department on November 10, 2014.† He brought with him 44 years of law enforcement experience; most recently he served nearly 18 years as the Chief of Police for the Athens-Clarke County, GA Police Department.† He has also served as Chief of Police for the Albany, GA Police Department and Toccoa, GA Police Department. Chief Lumpkin holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Columbus State University, a Bachelor’s Degree from Brenau University and is a graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy, the Southern Police Institute as well as Leadership Georgia. Feed the Hungry, Inc. Meal Schedule Feed the Hungry, Inc. is expanding its mission to eradicate hunger and poverty during this holiday season. This year Feed the Hungry will be expanding into Darien, Georgia and Statesboro, Georgia. Now the organization that host the largest sit down dinner on America will focus on feeding an estimated 50,000 of the working poor. The event will feature a delicious holiday meal, the signature Feed the Hungry Farmer’s Market with fresh produce, The Kids Corner (a separate menu meal for youth K-6th grade, The Empowerment Zone which offers free health screenings, job opportunities, free haircuts and live entertainment. Feed the Hungry was formed on November 23, 2009. Then founder and CEO Rep. Carl W. Gilliard after his family endured the recession hardships and all that his family had was two pieces of bread and a piece of bologna in the refrigerator. He was frustrated that

he couldn’t get any help so he vowed that no family would have to go through what they went through. Thus Feed the Hungry was born. Since 2009 they have served over 789,000 meals in 15 cities. There is a documentary currently out now entitled, “Feed the Hungry” the world changers. Now there is a gesture film being filmed entitled, “Two pieces of bread”.
