Full-Time MBA Employment Report

Message from Interim Assistant Dean Laine McDonald

As the Interim Assistant Dean of the Hari B. Varshney Business Career Centre (BCC) at the UBC Sauder School of Business, I’m pleased to share the Class of 2024 Full-Time MBA Employment Report with you as you consider the next step in your career journey.

Navigating today’s evolving job market—the shifting economic conditions, emerging industries, and new ways of working— requires more than business expertise. It demands adaptability, emotional intelligence, and strong professional connections. The Class of 2024 rose to the occasion, and this report reflects the ambition and resilience that define UBC Sauder graduates.

The UBC MBA is more than a degree—it’s a transformational experience that prepares students to lead with purpose and make a meaningful impact. The BCC supports this journey through one-on-one career coaching, tailored career programming, job opportunities, and exclusive alumni and employer events. Whether pursuing roles in Canada or globally, in established industries or emerging sectors, students benefit from our personalized support designed to help them clarify their goals and build the skills, knowledge, and networks to achieve them.

Experiential learning is a cornerstone of the UBC Sauder experience. Internships, applied projects, and mentorship opportunities are more than learning moments—they’re launchpads. For many students, these experiences serve as gateways to full-time roles, demonstrating the real-world value of hands-on learning and the strength of our employer and alumni networks. With more than 50,000 alumni worldwide and strong industry relationships, our students gain access to a robust and engaged network that supports them throughout their MBA studies and beyond.

Todd Shewfelt - UBC MBA ‘03

Regional

Vice President, RBC Private Banking British Columbia

Todd Shewfelt has been tapping into MBA talent at the UBC Sauder School of Business’s Robert H. Lee Graduate School for years and says he continually witnesses the positive effects.

“When we hire UBC Sauder students, we get people with an excellent education and a set of hard and soft skills that are readily adaptable to banking, even without applied training in this particular area.”

In fact, since RBC began hiring interns from UBC Sauder more than 20 years ago, seven of the hires now hold leadership positions at the bank, including five vice-presidents.

“The idea is that if they’re a good fit, from both the students’ perspective and our perspective, then we’ll offer them a position as a commercial account manager, which is not an entry level position at RBC,” explains Shewfelt.

New MBA hires are frequently trusted with senior roles at the bank and are tasked with dealing directly with the needs of the bank’s business clients, which requires both excellent communication and leadership skills.

“UBC MBAs have proven themselves to be responsible leaders and excellent hires, so we want to increase our exposure to this talent. Our relationship with UBC Sauder School of Business has been a successful one and we look forward to continuing this collaboration,” Shewfelt says.

Interpreting our employment and internship data

Accreditation

UBC Sauder proudly holds accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), a globally recognized body that provides specialized accreditation for business and accounting programs at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. This accreditation is a testament to the quality and rigor of our programs and is considered the gold standard in business education worldwide.

Reporting standards

The Hari B. Varshney Business Career Centre (BCC) is a member of the Career Services and Employer Alliance (CSEA). The CSEA has set guidelines for reporting employment, salary, and other related statistics, which are recognized as the standard for sharing this information with external ranking organizations and the CSEA itself. The data presented in this report has been collected and interpreted in accordance with the CSEA Full-Time MBA Employment Reporting Standards (2017).

Salary statistics

When considering salary compensation, it’s important to look beyond the average and consider the median (mid-point) and range. These additional data points offer a more comprehensive view of salary distribution among the class. It’s worth noting that the average can be skewed by a small number of students receiving either very high or very low salary offers. For consistency and ease of comparison, all salaries are reported in Canadian dollars, with foreign salaries converted using the prevailing exchange rate.
