As Assistant Dean of the Hari B. Varshney Business Career Centre (BCC) at the UBC Sauder School of Business, I’m thrilled to extend a warm welcome as you consider taking the next step in your career with us.
UBC Sauder’s MBA program is not just a degree. It’s a life-changing experience designed to inspire you to shape your career and make a significant impact on the world of business and society at large. We believe in the potential of self-discovery and personal growth. That’s why we’ve carefully designed our career development services to provide the support and guidance for you to take charge of your journey towards achieving your career goals. Our dedicated team is here to assist along the way.
Succeeding in today’s complex business environment requires more than just technical skills. What sets UBC Sauder’s career services apart is our focus on emotional intelligence (EQ) development. We offer in-depth EQ training, designed to enhance your ability to lead with empathy, communicate effectively, and build strong relationships. Our commitment to EQ development prepares you not just to succeed, but to excel in your professional journey.
At UBC Sauder, we understand the importance of community. Our tight-knit cohort allows you to build lifelong connections with your peers, faculty, and the extensive network of over 49,000 alumni worldwide. This sense of community extends beyond our campus and your time spent in the program. More than 86% of our UBC MBA 2023 graduates chose to live and launch their careers in British Columbia (B.C.), a testament to the quality of life, opportunities, connections, and work-life balance our location offers.
B.C. presents a dynamic and diverse job market, with over a million job openings forecasted in the next decade. This growth is driven by a thriving green economy and flourishing technology sector, offering exciting opportunities for MBA graduates. The province’s abundant low-carbon natural resources provide a competitive advantage in the green economy, and we’re excited to see our students contribute to this sector. The tech sector continues to be a large player in the local market, with opportunities in startups to established global firms. Furthermore, with many leadership positions opening due to retirements, there are ample opportunities for ambitious MBA graduates to step into these roles. Beyond B.C., our vast network of global alumni and strong connections with industry partners provide access to opportunities in new ventures to Fortune 500 companies.
As a UBC MBA candidate, you’ll have access to our MBA Career Strategists, who will guide you in navigating this dynamic job market and seizing opportunities aligned with your career aspirations.
We look forward to welcoming you into the UBC MBA community. Our team is ready to support you as you take this next step towards achieving your career goals.

“ Among the many tools I acquired during my time at UBC Sauder, the insights I gained from the Business Career Centre had a direct influence in getting back into the job market. Getting help on how to position my brand, how to prepare for interviews, and learning how to leverage meaningful informational interviews instead of blindly applying to jobs on multiple websites. These skills have helped me reach the managerial position I am now in at TELUS.”

UBC Sauder School of Business | Employment Report
Todd Shewfelt has been tapping into MBA talent at the UBC Sauder School of Business’s Robert H. Lee Graduate School for years and says he continually witnesses the positive effects.
“When we hire UBC Sauder students, we get people with an excellent education and a set of hard and soft skills that are readily adaptable to banking, even without applied training in this particular area.”
In fact, since RBC began hiring interns from UBC Sauder more than 18 years ago, four of the hires now hold leadership positions at the bank, including two vice-presidents.
“The idea is that if they’re a good fit, from both the students’ perspective and our perspective, then we’ll offer them a position as a commercial account manager, which is not an entry level position at RBC,” explains Shewfelt.
New MBA hires are frequently trusted with senior roles at the bank and are tasked with dealing directly with the needs of the bank’s business clients, which requires both excellent communication and leadership skills.
“UBC MBAs have proven themselves to be responsible leaders and excellent hires, so we want to increase our exposure to this talent. Our relationship with UBC Sauder School of Business has been a successful one and we look forward to continuing this collaboration,” Shewfelt says.

UBC Sauder proudly holds accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), a globally recognized body that provides specialized accreditation for business and accounting programs at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. This accreditation is a testament to the quality and rigor of our programs and is considered the gold standard in business education worldwide.
The Hari B. Varshney Business Career Centre (BCC) is a member of the MBA Career Services and Employer Alliance (MBA CSEA). The MBA CSEA has set guidelines for reporting employment, salary, and other related statistics, which are recognized as the standard for sharing this information with external ranking organizations and the MBA CSEA itself. The data presented in this report has been collected and interpreted in accordance with the MBA CSEA Full-time MBA Reporting Standards (2017).
When considering salary compensation, it’s important to look beyond the average and consider the median (mid-point) and range. These additional data points offer a more comprehensive view of salary distribution among the class. It’s worth noting that the average can be skewed by a small number of students receiving either very high or very low salary offers. For consistency and ease of comparison, all salaries are reported in Canadian dollars, with foreign salaries converted using the prevailing exchange rate.
