Two inspiring public school educators identified a clear need not being met by the public education system
We need innovative hands-on learning experiences that go beyond the classroom.
We need these experiences to be guided by career professionals who can mentor students.
Gail Whitney and Jackie Jackson founded Saturday Academy forty-one years ago! While the programs have evolved, the mission remains constant.
Mission
Saturday Academy develops creative, confident, and curious critical thinkers by engaging students in socially conscious and equitable Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math experiences. We spark curiosity, connect our community, and empower students to become the innovative thinkers and problem solvers of the next generation.
Vision
Saturday Academy believes in the transformative power of hands-on learning in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM). We seek to enrich the world with wide access to these opportunities for diverse students in K-12 grade across the state of Oregon.

Our innovative Classes for All Ages program provides hands-on learning experiences for Grades K-8 in the Fall, Winter, and Spring semesters. Each class is designed to support the development of a child’s identity, awareness, and knowledge through STEAM centered learning
This dynamic full-day workshop series introduces K-5 and 9-12 grade students to a wide range of skills, knowledge, industries, and realworld fun on scheduled school outage days when caretakers still have to work
Our School Residency Program ensures access to dynamic and consistent immersive education in a diverse array of STEAM subjects both during the school day and through after-school safe hours
Our Apprenticeships in Science and Engineering (ASE) program connects motivated high school students with mentors in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) pre-professional internships The driving value behind the ASE program is that the interns should contribute to and learn from the mentor's work
Saturday Academy partners with corporations and area businesses to ensure access to immersive hands-on learning experiences for all students K-12 grade in Oregon and SW Washington.
We curate transformative experiences through student-centered learning opportunities that explore the intersections of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM), designed to remove barriers of access to necessary transformation
We believe that through these explorations students will cultivate a deeper sense of their identity, community connection, and global awareness fostering informed innovators for the next generation.

As a non-profit with a small, but mighty staff, we are deeply appreciative of businesses that make space for their employees to volunteer. Here is how you can get involved!
Volunteer Days
Throughout the year there are days when Saturday Academy tackles big projects From lego-sorting to art-kit making, we have big projects that need many hands! We can come to you or you can come to us, and we’ll ensure your hours are well-spent moving our needle forward.
Supporting Events
Several times a year, we are in need of a large number of volunteers to support the execution of Cultivation Events, Spring Soiree, Summer Conferences (in-person and virtual) for ASE, and more!
Sustainability Push
We are always in need of reliable support to help haul items to Metro for recycling or to the various tech donation sites we use.
Tech Cleaning
As a STEAM organization, we need to clean, wipe, and set-up our laptops and digital devices for use by students. This is often a labor intensive task that can be shared.
In-Kind Donations
Do you have a fabulous vacation home, a special skill, tickets and/or an item that you’d like to offer to Saturday Academy to leverage at an event such as the Spring Soiree? We are all ears! These types of gifts can be extended to services and/or consulting support that we otherwise would have to pay for.
Employee Giving
We would love to enroll Saturday Academy as an option for your employees to give and employer’s to match!
