Coronavirus Anxiety: Coping with Stress, Fear, and Worry A STAY SAFE Overwhelmed?

ANXIOUS? Worried?

A pandemic that feels endless, and sometimes hopeless. You have been indoors for weeks (months) on end. You feel untethered and desperate, you have no schedule. Make yourself wake up at a certain time, put on real clothes (don’t live in your pajamas) , look decent, and cook meals on a regular basis. Stay informed – but don’t obsessively check the news Stick to trustworthy sources such as the World Health Organization, and your local public health authorities. So you can follow advised safety precautions and do your part to slow the spread of coronavirus. Focus on the things you can control There are so many things outside of our control, including how long the pandemic lasts, how other people behave, and what’s going to happen in our communities. Stay home as much as possible, even if you don’t feel sick. Stay connected – even when physically isolated Social media can be a powerful tool- not only for connecting with friends, family, and acquaintancesbut for feeling connected in a greater sense to our communities, country and the world. It reminds us we’re not alone. Take care of your body and spirit Be kind to yourself. Go easy on yourself if you’re experiencing more depression or anxiety than usual. You’re not alone in your struggles. Take time out for activities you enjoy and find ways to exercise.

Traveling - it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.

5 SOUTH AFRICA’S LOCAL CUISINE When it comes to local delicacies South Africa has over a thousand and definitely more. If you plan on visiting the country there are so many local places and outlets to visit that would give you the full experience, below I have listed my top 5 local foods that give me a jolt of happiness when I think about it.

BILTONG When it comes to sun dried, spiced meat, South Africa has a wide range to tantalize anyone’s tastebuds. Be it getting your dose from roadside vendor or at top notch butchery, biltong here in SA is definitely one of our specialties! Ranging from your basic lamb meat to more refined cuts of kudu (buck) meat. If it’s just something you like snacking on or for a get together treat, biltong sure does bring the folks together!

BUNNY CHOW By far the best fast food you could get in the city of Durban. The “bunny chow” was first introduced to Durban by Indians. It is a portion of a loaf of bread that has had its inside taken out (sounds gory I know) and replaced with gravy of a curry. Curry fillings vary from an all vegetarian curry such as beans up to carnivorous mutton or chicken bunny. Many outlets in and around town serve this amazing must try delicacy.

"PULL UP A CHAIR. TAKE A TASTE. COME JOIN US. LIFE IS SO ENDLESSLY DELICIOUS"

SHISA NYAMA A Zulu slang expression for buy and braai but it does not refer to burnt meat. “Shisa nyama” means“ braai” it was first a way for township butcheries to increase their weekend sales. This however soon became a gathering place for both-up and coming urban professionals wanting to reconnect with their roots and local township residents looking for company and a place to drink and eat.

"I TOLD THEM I WON'T GO IF THERE WAS NO FOOD INVOLVED, SO HERE I AM!" KOTA A quarter loaf (kota) of bread hollowed out and filled again. The soft loaf is crammed with a combination of, among other ingredients, polony, slap chip, cheese, egg and russian sausage. The kota sandwich has been a student favourite for generations and it’s also a reliable favourite of young workers and tourists looking for local flavour.

MALVA PUDDING On the sweeter side of life, we South Africans also have a sweet tooth. Originating from the country and its descendants, malva pudding is a sweet delight. Containing apricot jam (or any other sweet tasting jam if you ask me) the pudding comes together in a sweet, spongy delight for everyone. It is served as a desert in many top South African restaurants. The pudding gained popularity in 2006. 13 years of perfecting it will surely have you hooked.
