seventies on, the university and masters group has been flanked by young school competitors. The athletes are basically divided into age groups. The Junior Skiing Team is the pride of the SC18. Set up at the end of the nineties, the organisation of the team was entrusted to two of the best Italian ski instructors, Mauro Baldo and Paolo Zardini. Today seven instructors manage a team of more than seventy youngsters, who compete at top Italian and international levels in all FISI categories, namely from seven to eighteen years of age. Only sixteen athletes on the Team are children of SC18 members. The others have been chosen for their sporting merits. Over the years, the SC18 has been a powerhouse of young talents, Michela Passarelli, Leopoldo and Sebastiano Pirro, Massimiliano and Giulia Kropf, Edoardo Longo, Alessandra and Silvia Radice, Angelica Girardello, Sofia Pizzato, Andrea Scarzello, Mariaelena Rizzieri, Teresa Fabris, Niccolò Donatacci, Luca Righetti, Mario Parteli, Nicolò Mariani, Manfredi Reale and Antonio Nobili are just some of the young champions who grew up in the 18 Team. The SC18 is proud of them all, but particularly of the superstar Edoardo Longo, a

Diciottino since the age of seven. In 2010 he won the gold medal in both the slalom and the giant slalom in the international finals of the Pinocchio on Skis Trophy and in 2011 he was Citadin Italian downhill champion. At the first Winter Youth Olympics in 2012, had it not been for a last-minute injury, he would have been part of the Italian team and the flag bearer. Many 18 champions become ski instructors and in turn coach the younger SC18 athletes, ensuring that passion and tradition are handed down. Out of the 700 Italian ski associations the SC18 ranks among the top ten in the Junior Alpine Ski category. Alongside the activity of the Junior Team, the club also organises courses for members’ children, introducing them to competitive skiing and bringing them to love winter sports. The best then join the Junior Team. In 2013, around 100 children were coached by a group of ten instructors with nine minibuses. The University Team, after some rather uneventful years, started competing seriously again in 1986 with Amedeo and Emanuele Reale, Fabiano Rebecchini, Pivato, Morelli, Marzola and Volo. However, compared to the heroical years after the war, skiing has become a highly competitive sport and furthermore university courses allow less and less time for leisure activities. For university students it is increasingly difficult to compete at high levels. Since 2010, the team has been rebuilt with Niccolò Donatacci, Teresa Fabris, Michela Passarelli, Mario Parteli, Alessandra Radice and Luca Righetti. They achieved significant results in the 2010, ’11 and ’12 National University Championships in Bormio. In particular a silver in the combined for Parteli and Radice and a bronze in the slalom for Radice. The Master Team has become competitive again since 2011. Captained by Clemente Reale, in 2013 the SC18 won a silver medal in the Regions Trophy, the Italian FISI Inter-Club Championship. In the Master World Championships, Doranna Melegari was on the podium various times. Continual successes are fuelling a fire of competitive passion among members and the future looks promising.

Sporting activity In addition to the Italo-Suisse, the various 18 Teams take part in many competitions and sporting events. The Lioro de Nadà, Christmas Leverets, is a race Alvise Alverà
