What is linguistics?

Mainly, linguistics is the science that studies language and human languages. This scientific discipline investigates the origin, evolution and structure of language to deduce the laws that govern ancient and modern languages.

What is the study object of sociolinguistics?

This studies the relationship between language and society, the uses of language and the social structures where different languages develop.

What are language heterogeneity and variation? Give 3 examples

The heterogeneity of the language is the different categories of variations that exist in the dialect.

-Solemn

-Culture, formal

-Professional

-Vulgar, slang

-Standard

-Colloquial

Example 1. Cult or formal: The vocabulary used in professional settings, such as in a job interview.

Example 2. Standard:

It is used in different social spaces such as school, home or church.

Example 3. Vulgar or Jargal:

This is used in intimate spaces such as in a group of friends, although it is also used by people with little or no education.

Why is it important to carry out sociolinguistics studies?

Sociolinguistics is an approach to language in society, which is why its importance is fundamental in studies. This allows directing the methodology in the use of the language taking into account the culture.

Teaching from a student, social and cultural perspective; in order to create a complete learning of the own and/or foreign language

What is Linguistics?

Linguistics is the science that studies the aspects of a language, its object of study is the grammar of a language, that is, linguistics studies the structure and evolution of human language in all the complexity of its operation and its realizations in the various languages.

What is the study object of sociolinguistics?

Language of speakers of different age, gender, social class and roles and language of various social groups

Conversation strategies, speakers' communicative competence Urban and regional varieties, relation between dialects and standard language, multilingualism, language contacts Public language (TV, radio) Language of the new media (text messages, Facebook, skype)

What are language heterogeneity and variation? Give 3 examples

Linguistic variation refers to the differences in the way a particular language is used. These differences can be regional, social, or contextual 1. Here are three examples of linguistic variation:Regional variation: The way people speak varies depending on where they live. For instance, in the United States, people from the South tend to speak more slowly and with a drawl, while people from the Northeast speak more quickly and with a nasal accent.

2.Social variation: The way people speak can also vary depending on their social class, education level, and other factors. For example, people who are highly educated may use more complex vocabulary and sentence structures than those who are less educated. 3.Contextual variation: The way people speak can also vary depending on the situation they are in For instance, people may use different language when speaking to their boss than when speaking to their friends.

Why is it important to carry out Sociolinguistics studies?

It is important since it is understood what language is and why its importance, it is understood where language comes from since through it identity, values and beliefs are expressed, it is a form of signs that, when used properly, can influence people. Furthermore, sociolinguistics try to determine not only why a speaker says something, but why he says it, to whom he says it and what he does when he says something.

What is Linguistics?

Linguistics is a science that is responsible for studying language, it studies the characters that make up letters, their formation, words, phonemes and more. Within the categories of language, linguistics studies: morphemes, syntax, phonetics, phonology and semantics

Morphemes correspond to the meaning of words; syntax analyzes the grammatical structure of sentences; phonetics is the sound of characters (or letters); Phonology is the sound of syllables and words, and semantics pertains to the meaning of words.

What is the study object of sociolinguistics?

The objective of sociolinguistics is to analyze language change in different groups of people and their contexts; observing how language varies according to gender, age, race, sex or social stratum. There are three fields of study in sociology, these are: social linguistics, linguistic anthropology and thesociology of language; each one focused on a specific aspect of language and the human being.

What are language heterogeneity and variation? Give 3 examples

The variation and heterogeneity of language refers to its changes in the language. Depending on the contexts or words, the language varies and is heterogeneous. The heterogeneity and variety of the language refers to its change in the way of articulating expressions conditioned by the contexts in which individuals find themselves or in the change of words and the sound they produce.

A first example of this could be the following: a police officer in his job will tell a criminal that he will have a “house arrest”, but that The same police officer in an informal context will say that this criminal will be “deprived of his freedom in his home ” A second example could be the variation of words in the way they are spoken and the way they are written in writing; To write a writing it is necessary to comply with specific rules to be understood in a scriptural manner; while when speaking other words and jargons of the cultural context in which one is found are used. A third example is: in a political context, words exclusive to the context are used and one speaks formally, avoiding jargons; In a more informal context, such as at a party, more informal slang and words may be used.

Why is it important to carry out Sociolinguistics studies?

Carrying out sociolinguistics studies provides humans with a better understanding of the way in which language varies, changes and evolves over time; It provides a greater understanding of how people can relate better by understanding the language and its use in different scenarios and means a new implementation of different projects, theories and terminologies that help simplify the language when studying and understanding it

Conclusion

Linguistics is a science that influences the development of human beings in society. Through this, sociolinguistics and many other branches that arise from linguistics are known. Thanks to this discipline, today we have our own dialect and we know the ancient and modern history of languages. This allows us to have a clear vision of our vocabulary, know it and also expand it.
