Preliminary Design

Demographics Located just east of Phoenix, Scottsdale Arizona has a population of roughly 246,000 people. The population is incredibly diverse, representing a wide range of ethnicities and culture. Scottsdale is a desert town known for it upscale resorts and spas, expensive restaurants, acclaimed shopping and exclusive art gallaries. It is annually ranked as one of the nation’s most desirable cities to live in. Scottsdale’s lush desert landscape offers endless opportunities to explore the outdoors and experience nature at it’s finest.

Research Moments in a healthcare setting are meaningful, personal and pivotal for everyone involved. We know many family members want to support their loved one in every way possible. We know many doctors and nurses value the care, concern and help family members can provide.

Observations and insights tell us many healthcare environments do not adequately support the needs of family members and are not designed to facilitate family members playing an active role in patient care.

Too many family members are made to feel like an afterthought dealing with significant unmet needs in most patient room design settings. Not enough healthcare environmants take advantage of the space they have to do this effectively.

Research We believe change can come from enriching the moments that matter most. Scottsdale Pediatic Endocrinology Clinic is designed to make family members feel welcome in the patient room. It will offers family members a place thoughtfully-designed for their needs to support the care of their loved one, relax comfortably and communicate effectively with clinicians.

Scottsdale Pediatric Ednocrinology clinic is designed to accommodate the critical roles the family plays in healthcare environments. It’s integrated design is flexible, and easily reconfigured. We want to create moments that can lead to change — moments that enhance the wellbeing, empathy and connection of clinicians, patients and families.

Concept

A paper airplane is the ultimate symbol for imagination, childhood and optimism. It can also signify a carefreee attitude, like that of a child.

This space is representative of a paper airplane and all that it encommpasses. You will find many clear cut lines and very defined angles, similar to the creases needed to make a paper airplane. The space is very open and flows smoothly together, while also adding in many accent features that bring depth to the room.
