Dear Mr. Fant

I write this letter to express my interest in the Graphic Designer opening advertised on your company’s website. From day one, I believe my contributions to the team at Farmhouse Branding could be a worthwhile addition.

After comprehensive study for my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design degree obtained at Arkansas State University, I possess a wide range of abilities that combine innovative art and design principles. Furthermore, my knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Blender, FontForge, HTML, and CSS, will allow me to play a crucial role in implementing your design and production initiatives.

The following are highlights of my skills and accomplishments:

• A strong work ethic motivates me to balance multiple projects to the best of my ability. I’ve been in the workforce for 15 years, having been employed at the Arkansas State University switchboard for the whole of my degree, fulfilling the responsibilities of the position while completing homework.

• Years of experience collaborating as part of a team to achieve the organization’s objectives and goals. Efficient communication with fellow designers allows the team to reach the best possible outcome.

• Capable of handling designs with multiple pieces and a tight turnaround period. I can dissect large projects into manageable parts and create a timetable to complete the job within the deadline.

Enclosed are my resumé and references for your review. You may also view my portfolio of work at www.sae-studio.com or learn more about me on Instagram @sae.studio.sara. I welcome the opportunity to discuss how my skills and strengths can best serve your company with you. I will contact you this week or please feel free to reach me at 870-530-2464 or sae.studio.sara@gmail.com. I look forward to speaking with you and appreciate your valuable time and consideration.

LinkedIn is a more professional platform than Instagram or Behance. However it’s still important to be an active part of the community and can help make connections.

BUSINESS PLANS

IDENTITY

SAE Studio

What’s your full name?

Sara Anthony Edwards

Would you like to create a brand that refers to you as a person or you as a thing? In other words, do you want to have a business that is known by your name or by another name?

I want to be known by some version of my full name.

What is the location of your business?

I want to live on the outskirts of a bustling metropolis.

Where would you rather work (when the pandemic clears and you have a choice)? Virtual from home or at a physical office?

I want to work primarily from home, but not opposed to a hybrid setup.

S.W.O.T.

S - Strengths (internal/personal aspects that give you an advantage):

1. Punctual

2. Not afraid to speak up

3. Determined

W - Weaknesses (internal/personal aspects that might hinder you or cause problems):

1. Easily overwhelmed

2. Often put my foot in my mouth

3. Procrastination

O - Opportunities (external/public – new services, products or markets for you to consider):

1. Fiber Arts

2. Design Systems

3. Production Design

T - Threats (external/public – EX competition, government regulations, money, tech?):

1. Fiber is incredibly time consuming

2. Sciences, math, physics..

3. Ideation is my downfall

35 BUSINESS
PLAN A

YOUR MISSION

What drives you? What keeps you motivated? What are you passionate about?

My passion is art; that’s it. Today’s world is full of cynicism and general distrust, so I want to combat that by making art in all its forms.

What is important to you in business?

The most important thing to me is creating something that makes me proud to show it off.

YOUR FUTURE

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In 5 years, I want to be established in my career and able to live comfortably with my husband and pets.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I want to have achieved (or close to achieving) my MFA and working somewhere that promotes a healthy work-life balance.

How are you going to make this 10-year goal happen?

By working digilently to build my portfolio and gaining experience along the way.

YOUR PRODUCTS AND SERVICES

Strength 1: Collateral

Qualifications & Competitive Advantages:

I can take a design and expand it to fit a wide array of products from shirts, tote bags, magnets, playing cards, and all sorts of other items.

Strength 2:

Design Systems

Qualifications & Competitive Advantages:

I have experience creating design systems for my own brand and portfolio pieces.

Strength 3: Writing

Qualifications & Competitive Advantages:

Science and math are my nemeses, but words describe the world around us. They’re something I understand, even with all their weird rules.

36 BUSINESS PLAN A

YOUR COMPETITION

Creativity/Ideation:

Someone who can ideate. I can come up with half ideas or build off what others have, but cold ideating is not a strength of mine.

Training:

Someone who has taken crash courses or keeps up with the latest design trends.

Experience:

People who can do all the things. I can only focus on a few things at a time and stick to what I know I can do versus large learning curves.

Specialty:

Someone who wants to learn every possible thing about their favored subject where I try to learn at least the basics of whatever I’m working with.

YOUR CLIENTS

Who is your ideal client(s)?

Someone who knows what they want with clear objectives or design systems I can then build from.

Will the ideal client give you little or full control over the project scope?

I like that middle ground of control. I want someone who knows what they want and will let me take the reins and bring their idea to life.
