The Guide to Vibrating Fork Type Liquid Level Sensor/Switch A vibrating fork refers to the type of level switch which is primarily used for the measurement of density. Its name is derived from a fork-like sensor which lies in the bottom. Its working principle is same as that of the tuning forks. Vibrating forks are ideal for point level measurements. They comprise of a wavering fork or a tuning fork which resonates in air with a known frequency. A liquid level switch plays a crucial role in assessing the height of the liquid. Working Mechanism of the Vibrating Forks To be precise, vibrating forks are commonly known as an effective point level detection service. But they are also deployed as components in other applications. The working mechanism of the vibrating forks is based on similar principles to tuning forks. In usual contexts, this device contains two-prong forks. These forks waver at their natural frequency. Vibrating forks are usually installed on the top of a tank or in pipelines. When the two-prong fork is in contact with air, it will oscillate at its natural frequency. Moreover, the transmitter present in the liquid level switch continuously observes the oscillatory motion. However, as soon as the fork comes in contact with the product, there is a drastic alteration in the oscillation frequency. The transmitter detects this frequency change and translates this information to an output switch. In this manner, the equipment can be switched on or off to avoid operational complexities. Working Principle of the Liquid Level Switch The working principle of the liquid level sensor uses a sensing element. Two tines are inserted into the tank where the target product is present. The sensor is placed by setting its natural resonant frequency. Moreover, the harmonic vibration of the tuning fork sensor is established with the usage of Piezoelectricity. A liquid level sensor comprises of piezoelectric elements preferably quartz. When these crystals are compressed, they generate an electric signal. Advantages of Using a Liquid Level Sensor
