DALMARRI ABORIGINAL ART

At Santa Sophia, we are deeply committed to promoting inclusivity and fostering a sense of belonging among all our students We particularly strive to recognise and celebrate Australia's Indigenous history and cultural heritage. In this spirit, we invited all our Indigenous students to participate in a special day of education and collaboration with the Dalmarri artists.

During this day, the students and artists worked together to further develop our Level 1 Yarning Circle. The activities included painting the ground within the Yarning Circle to symbolically tell stories, learning some language, participating in traditional activities like painting and boomerang throwing, and even creating another mural.

STEM MAD ACHIEVEMENTS

Hamish and Jacob tackled the challenge of windy conditions on the school grounds for the CSPD STEM MAD competition They surveyed students to understand how the chilly wind conditions impact them and collected data from a weather station to better understand the details of this problem. The duo developed an innovative solution using Microbits to create an automated wind barrier, which was built as a prototype and shared at the CSPD STEM MAD day

Throughout the project, they empathised with stakeholders, defined the problem, ideated solutions, and iterated on their prototype. Their journey showcased the integration of empathy, research, and technical skills. The boys were awarded the most innovative solution, and we are proud of their achievement and look forward to their success at the national competition in Brisbane this November.
