Shrove Tuesday & Lent

The day before Ash Wednesday is commonly known as ‘Shrove Tuesday’, a centuries old Catholic tradition where it is customary to eat pancakes, or other foods that may have been given up during the Lenten season.

Thank you to the many families who prepurchased pancakes - your generosity will go towards Project Compassion, a Lenten fundraising initiative through Caritas Australia.

As a Catholic school, Easter is the most important time of the year, which also means that Lent, the time of preparation leading up to Easter, is significant. During this time, we are called to increase in prayer, take up almsgiving (charity), and practice self-mastery through fasting or abstaining from things that distract us from what's important.

"Lent offers us the practical and effective weapons of fasting and almsgiving as a means of combating an excessive attachment to money. Giving not only from our abundance, but sacrificing something more in order to give to the needy, fosters that self-denial which is essential to authentic Christian living." -

You can join our participation in almsgiving this Lent us by donating too, using our school donation page below: bit.ly/santasophiacaritas

School Leaders Commissioning

Ob Friday 17 February, the 2023 School of Curiosity Year 4 leaders and School of Connect Year 8 leaders were officially commissioned as leaders. Their families were present for the ceremony and were invited to pin their leadership badge for the first time onto their uniforms. It was a beautiful moment of witnessing these young leaders publicly commit themselves to the honour and responsibility of being a leader in our community.

Watch the videos (on the right) to learn about the Year 4 and Year 8 leaders.
