Handmade Holiday Craft Fair Attend this annual fair featuring 80+ booths with handcrafted items created and sold by the artists. Plus, ride Rosie the Trolley free between the Craft Fair at Finley Community Center and the Holiday Open House at Luther Burbank Home & Gardens.

December 12/3-12/4 10am-4pm.

Holiday Open House at Luther Burbank Home and Gardens Start off the holiday season by touring the Burbank Home decorated in traditional turn-of-the-century style. Shop for unique gift items in the Carriage House Gift Shop or enjoy tea and cookies in the historic Burbank Museum and Greenhouse.

Open house is December 12/3-12/4 10am-4pm, admission is $3 per person (12 years and over). For information, call 524-5445.

Readers Theater Presents Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol This December, Charles Dickens’, A Christmas Carol will come to life at the Person Senior Wing. Told in a “readers theater” style, with an emphasis on the dramatic art of storytelling, this adaptation will delight attendees.

Please welcome our New Senior Centers Team at Bennett Valley Senior Center: Al Pritchard, Recreation Coordinator and Helen Geary, Recreation Specialist. Al has worked with Recreation & Parks for 17 years at the Finley Community Center.

Helen has worked with Recreation & Parks for over 25 years, working in marketing and at the Finley Community Center. Nicole Lowery and Erin Sullivan will be moving to aquatics and Jennifer Mendoza will be moving to Finley Community Center.

Instructor Spotlight Crafting with Bobbette!

The holidays are upon us and Bobbette will teach you how to create beautiful cards or personal gift tags, gift bags that look like miniature purses, home décor items such as fall banners and Halloween treat boxes. Everything made in class is yours to keep. You can bring in your own crafts that you need help with or do the craft of the day. Come meet new people with similar interests in this fun and creative class. You won’t believe what you can make. There is always something to learn so come and be crafty!

Health & Fitness Corner Find Your Center with Tai Chi Carl Hendel, M.D. has practiced Tai Chi for 28 years. He began teaching Tai Chi at the Bennett Valley Senior Center nearly 20 years ago. He recently asked his students what benefits they noticed from Tai-Chi – here are a few of their comments: • “I have learned a lot about my body.”

• “My balance, coordination and posture have improved.”

• “The favorite part of my day is when I stop what I am doing and practice Tai-Chi. It can remove me from a stressful moment and help me relax.”

• “Because balance is of critical importance to me, I feel that Tai Chi is an important low-impact way to improve it. I have found that I get a sense of relaxation as well as body and mental awareness that I don’t get from other exercise.”

• “I have noticed that my legs are stronger.

Going up and down stairs is not the same daunting task it used to be. Also, my balance has improved.”

• “I feel peace and calmness when I am doing Tai Chi with added benefit of learning to relax and learning the sequence of form correctly that contribute to having a better sense of balance.”

• “I am learning more and more about myself as I practice harmonious movements while trying to be mindful of what I do. The best moments for me are when I am moving in concert with the group and it feels an organic whole of which I am like a leaf upon moving water.”

We invite people of all computer levels to participate in the Computer and Technology Labs: Bennett Valley Senior Center Mon, Wed, Fri, 9-10:30am, $5 drop-in fee or FREE for members.

Computer Lab at PSW Tues and Thurs, 9am-11am, $2.00 drop-in fee Open lab hours are staffed by a group of dedicated volunteers. We have 6 computers for you to work at or you can bring in our own device and the volunteers can help you learn how to use it and help with other computer questions! Don’t miss your opportunity to get one-on-one help from a savvy computer user at the Bennett Valley Senior Center.

As of April 1, Lucky’s Supermarket changed their “Shares Card” program to escript.

The link to the new program is escript.com. It is now up and running and Rec & Parks senior programs are listed under “Senior Center.” We would be happy to help you get signed up at the front desk at the Bennett Valley Senior Center.

Free movies for seniors are back! The free senior movie series is offered the first Thursday of every month through June.

The movies will be presented at the Third Street Cinemas in Downtown Santa Rosa. The theatre is located at 620 Third Street between Santa Rosa Ave. and D St. (Next to the Third St. Aleworks, and only 1.5 blocks from the transit mall.) The movies are free for seniors 60 & older, and will begin at 10am. No tickets are needed and the doors open at 9:30am. For a list of films for each month, call the Third Street Cinemas recording, after the previous Friday: 522-0330 x 3#.
